One of our most frequently-revisited songs from 2009 is "02," track #6 from the fydhws release Impresii . The artist behind fydhws identifies himself only as "R" and the song truly is a six-minute continent, with all that this implies. Not just performed. Composed. In August we concluded : "It's difficult to remember a hard rock project so fiercely independent, one so tirelessly devoted to discovery." Today R writes in about a new project: Temi I Idei (or "Themes and Ideas," and the Bandcamp site presents the name in Cyrillic). [...]
For it's tenth EP, Get The Curse Music features the sound of Barcelona's rising star, Sishi Rösch. He delivered an EP that shines with the use of strange vocal samples, lethal basslines and vintage drum machine funk. True to the Get The Curse spirit, this is an EP that champions a very depraved understanding of dancefloor hedonism, [...]

It's happening again this year! Record Store Day 2012!! This will be my third year trying to get whatever "limited edition" records around. Like previous years I made a list of what records I wanted to get and what I bought . I understand some of the release will be available only in the UK and USA. The Ottawa music stores that are participating are: Compact Music CD Warehouse Birdman Sound [...]
After what seems like a season of hibernation, disco/house music is finally in bloom! Check out these top tracks to start your weekend off right: Just as the genre says, this song is for people who like eating cupcakes so naturally I am enjoying this scrumptious track very much. Thanks Michael for the exclusive on this one! Cassara - The World Is Yours (Geisha Twins Remix) THEY ARE BACK. From the people who brought you 'Kelly', the 80s-esque indie track whose remix by Breakbot is [...]

Picture a couple thousand kids under a tent, sweating it out, faces glowing from the lights on stage where Erol Alkan and Boys Noize aka Alex Ridha begin to play a new collaboration, "Brain Storm." Not a bad mental image. The two modern dance greats have mastered the art of writing music for a live setting, as demonstrated bellow: "Brainstorm" is part of a split single also featuring "Roland Rat," out April 2 on Boys Noize Records .
Today one of the UK's Nu-Disco champions Louis La Roché releases his new single, the Ad-Apt featuring 'Untrue'. Recently Louis has had no fear of playing fast and loose with styles and influences and 'Untrue' sees him playing about with his Disco sound, adding some rhymes and R&B vocals to create something new. The result is a track that is both incredibly funky, and incredibly commercial. With all the qualities to make a British summer hit, 'Untrue ' could see La Roché gaining the mainstream recognition he definitely deserves. The B-side, 'Touch Wood' is [...]

Gorillas, die wild auf Trommeln rumschlagen und sich dabei gottgleich gen Himmel bewegen! Kann dabei was gutes rauskommen? Allerdings! Wir tanzen im Dreieck, wir tanzen konzentriert! Der neuste Streich der ...
We kick off 2012 in style with an EP from Frank Haag - Amsterdam's diamond in the rough and undoubtedly one of the artists to watch very closely this year. Readers of our blog will be familiar with the name; last year his 'Tales of the Burning Range Rovers' EP on Serialism made a strong [...]
One of our favourite Russian ElectroPop acts, The Tapeaters , have just unleashed a brand new single, not only new, but also free! Are you ready for summery retro Pop? 'Waiting For A Sign' is pure '80's Pop, of the smooth variety. The kind quaffed haired young dudes in flecked suit jackets would perform on Top Of The Pops around the middle of the decade. It's a fun, catchy tune with enough groove to get you moving on the dancefloor and enough crooned vocals to be radio friendly. The 'Luncay Mix' keeps the '80's feel but chunks [...]
Even those of you living in a cave in the last couple of years have heard of Azari & III, the celebrated production duo from Toronto. Best known as their founding member, Alphonse Alixander Lanza III is an old timer with his earliest productions dating back to the raving 90's. On GTCM08, Alixander III flies solo [...]

A sextet of tracks these ears would have been much the poorer for not having heard. Mostly from new or imminent releases ( Pascal Savy 's ravishing warm flood of an EP, Liminal [Feedback Loop], David Wenngren & Christopher Bissonnette 's deep journeying, darkly glowing The Meridians of Longitude and Parallels of Latitude [Home Normal] & Illuha 's delicate, faintly off-kilter [...]

Its been a couple minutes since I've written an On Repeat piece, so I'm pretty excited to jump back into the fold here. There are probably 50 tracks I've neglected over the last couple months, but I'm going to narrow it down to just six for this week. Summer fall is in full swing here in LA and I can't help but feel like winter is on its way. I love this time of year. Somehow it makes me feel more introspective, and it the weather not being constantly perfect makes me feel like its ok not not always feel [...]
Trillium, the new project featuring Amanda Somerville (Epica, Kiske-Somerville, Aina), posted a 2011 Extended EPK Video for the forthcoming LP "Alloy." I first posted Mad Rad's music this past March, but since then I haven't heard much from them. While doing some Soundcloud searching today (I'm becoming a pro), I stumbled upon the page of Douster, a French producer who specializes in the Electro/House genres, and he just so happened to have a few Mad Rad [...]

Hailing from the cold plains of Poland, Kamp! is an electronic pop trio whose mission is to warm up dance floors around the world and make people dance like there's no tomorrow. Formed in 2008, the band already has a strong following in their homeland and is starting to make waves abroad. Their melodic synth-based pop is influenced by 802s new wave, 702s krautrock and 902s french house genres. With three singles under their belts they've been playing in and out of Poland (USA, UK, France, Germany), sharing stages with Caribou, Deadmau5, [...]
An Argument with Myself illustrates the many moods of Swedish singer/songwriter Jens Lekman, who has a savvy for both somber ballads and infectious summertime jams. His oft-gorgeous instrumentation is supplemented by dryly delivered humor that alternates between the darkly sobering and lovably romanticized [...]

P olish electro-pop/chillwave trio Kamp! that we posted about last year here are back with a great new chillwave tune called "Cairo" . The track available now on beatport ( iTunes, Amazon, etc after Sept 22nd ) is backed by remixes from Moullinex, JBAG and Social Disco Club . Digging them all! Particularly the original and the Moullinex and JBAG remixes. They also have a [...]

I recently went to pick up Donald Byrd's Places And Spaces album, one of my favorite fusion Jazz albums of all time. Luckily I found a second hand 123 in decent conditions at the record store down the street from my place. After listening to it a couple of times, I decided it would be more than appropriate to dedicate this week's Sample Sundays to the best track on the album, Wind Parade as it has been sampled in a bunch of very classic rap tracks. enjoy. Wind Parade - Donald Byrd [...]
"Does anybody remember critics? Honestly, in the end do you ever remember a criticism you read 20 years ago? No, you remember the music. Good or bad the music stays." -Ray LaMontagne There are two ways I can take the above quote (stolen from an old but fantastic interview Ray LaMontagne did). One way to [...]
A weekly feature in which our writers and photographers share their favourite tracks of the week. Mark McGuire - 'Brain Storm (for Erin)' (chosen by Darragh McCausland) Mark McGuire is best known as the young guitarist with the Ohio based drone outfit Emeralds, but that is a mere day job. McGuire is phenomenally prolific, with an oeuvre that teems with collaborations, self-released CDRs, cassettes, and two label retrospectives. You might think the guy spreads himself to thin, such is the rate at which he churns stuff out, but his music is mostly brilliant and [...]
