Friday's a little bit tamer than Thursday's schedule - there are eleven showcases to choose from instead of fifteen, but the festival makes up for it with the first of two official after parties at City Hall. Friday's after party is sponsored by Red Bull and features The Dynamites , and I'm pretty sure everyone's going to end up there at the end of the night. But before that, you've got your work cut out for you deciding what to see. The Cannery has a great lineup - including Kindercastle , Cortney [...]

A few weeks ago over at collaborative music blog Star Maker Machine I had the opportunity to share Bob Marley's Stir It Up -- a song which I maintain is one of the great summersongs of all time, in spite of its subversive political undertones. In my accompanying post, I noted that: Bob Marley's greatest hits release Legend may have been just a posthumous compilation, but it was a perfect, complete set; it caught fire upon its release, bringing the sound of reggae full-bore into [...]

I dreamt last night I was a member of the Eagles and somehow Don Henley and company were short on luck, losing everything in Vegas. So there we were, riding in an old beat up boxcar, traveling where ever the train took us. What instrument did I play, you ask? Why a drum sequencer and sampler, of course. When I woke up the next morning, I realized I had fallen asleep listening to 13Ghosts new LP, The Strangest Colored Lights . This Birmingham, Alabama 6 member band plays country infused classic folk [...]

Birmingham, AL The Strangest Colored Lights is available now. This track is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs this year. "Riverside" 13ghosts on MySpace 13ghosts on The Hype Machine

Yeah, I know I'm still way behind. I make the mistake of trying to listen to everything before I post these lists. Be sure to check out Largehearted Boy for more complete lists ( here and here ). Albums Released on 3/18/08 Things I've Heard: Be Your Own Pet : Get Awkward (Ecstatic Peace/Universal) - Thurston Moore signed them as teenagers. News & Updates: Josiah Wordsworth recently released a new album, Wordsworth! , as a follow-up to his highly successful Blue State . Josiah's sound lies somewhere in the realms of jazz, classical and rock. More information can be found here ...another band recently featured here has changed names. Southern rock, spiritual psychedelia, magnificent poetry and masterful playing converge on 13ghosts' monumental fourth album.

Lots of truly great albums to be had this week, with releases from the likes of Destroyer and DeVotchka - both of whom we've covered here extensively. One album in particular that I would really like to highlight is Volume One from She & Him - the very high-profile collaboration between M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel. I wasn't too keen on listening to this early on, until recently hearing a track on NPR one afternoon and becoming instantly hooked. I'm currently listening to the album right now, and it sounds surprisingly refreshing, as Zooey is more [...]
Me and my blogchild (figuratively) Yassss, we yanked that last post like a bad molar, like Pepys and his pp, like Sherman on Savannah. So let's just do it. While I'm still on the road to well, making progress some days, and hitting road blocks on others, I invited another one of my favorite bloggers, Harry Smith, from Tha Bomb Shelter to fill in for a post. I never listened to 13ghosts' last album, "Cicadas", but when an album from Wendy Williams at Toolshed drops in my mailbox, I'm always eager to listen. So yesterday when I found myself in possession of "The Strangest Colored Lights" courtesy of the one and only Ms. Williams, I couldn't wait to [...]
I think one thing a lot of our readers don't notice right away is that this blog is based out of Alabama. Yes, you heard me correctly. It comes as quite a shock to many, but I do in fact live here on the plains of Auburn. That is something I have been wanting to change for a while now, as i've wanted to focus a little bit more on local bands around Alabama. I usually don't have a lot of time to discover much of the music around here, but I would love more than anything to [...]
Lately I've liked everything MOKB has posted, so therefore I wanted to spread more love, this time it being for 13 Ghosts. It's softer indie rock... nice for lazy weekend days. 13 Ghosts: Official Website MP3's (right click save as) from new album "Cicada" 13Ghosts - Robert J 13Ghosts - WorldShaker 13Ghosts - The Search Party 13 Ghosts
