Jimmy Savile sat on the train to Leeds, his head in his hands. The night before he had been playing records at the Roxy in Bradford. It had possibly been the most life changing experience in his life. After a particularly heady does of acid while playing a rather long version of some Engelbert Humperdinck song - let us call it 'x' - his playlist dictated he must play 'y' record next. This wasn't in any way a deviation from his normal crowd pleasing set but what happened next was. Jimmy began to think about [...]

Questions? If the devil has all the best tunes, why is gospel so great? Can music really be good or evil? Is it different for different listeners? Do such absolutes exist at all? This compilation tape - Azreal - attempts to answer none of the questions above. 20jazzfunkgreats mixtape - Azreal Tracklist? As normal, we leave all you falen angels to provide it in the comments box.

We don't allow faster than light neutrinos in here said the bartender. 20jazzfunkgreats mixtape - Slower than light A neutrino walks into a bar.

This mixtape was produced while reading Arkady & Boris Strugatsky's ' Roadside Picnic' (famously adopted by Tarkovski as Stalker), and it may have been influenced by it. although not consciously. We'll let you to it to sort our the tracklist once again. Whoever names the most gets a nameless price. Tips: it begins with Rene Hell and finishes with Led Er Est doing a legendary cover. 20jazzfunkgreats - Souvenirs from the Zone And yes, that's Darth Vader in case you were wondering.

More amazing music from Canada! I can't tell you how much I love this version. (It's actually a recording of the vinyl at 33rpm instead of 45rpm, another moment of genius from... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

[mp3] Missincinatti: "A Hundred Years Ago" Stay with it. Let it build. Pretty much anyone who has had a passing contact with me, ever, will read this post and say "of COURSE you would post that." Well, you're damn right I am. Can anyone buy me that painting? Admittedly, I have an extremely tenuous relationship with Altered Zones . Not in the way Chris Weingarten does -- most of the music on the site, just isn't my speed. Maybe [...]
Once in a blood moon the 20jazzfunkgreats dudes themselves deploy their primitive mixology technologies to spawn some disfunctional beast such as the one that stares at you, cross-eyed yet hopefully beautiful in its necromantically assembled parts, from below. The theme is always love, splattered and dying over the window screen of some Nova-class cruiser destination [...]

If the bloodied guts of your iPod can't whisk you away to faraway lands, inhabited by extraneous sounds and misplaced odours, your playlists probably need a rather extensive overhaul. Hind Ear , an experimental quartet from London via Brighton are one of those acts that transpose the howling winds on those pebbly south coast shores onto hallucinogenic shards of organic instrumentation that recall Caribbean calypso, Caribou and enough fruitful eccentricity to power a day's worth of Dot to Dot. As Origami floods through your ears like an erupting fire hydrant, kaleidoscopic spurts of technicolour guitar swathes lap into each [...]

Darktown Strutters have been burning up the net with their devilish vibe ever since 20JFG dropped them on their unsuspecting readers earlier this summer. It's fitting we revisit these possessed Texans with you now as we celebrate October Armageddon. Voted #1 "lethal injection" song by Texas death row inmates, I couldn't imagine better music to be snuffed out to. Darktown Strutters - Lucifer Rising In keeping with the Strutter's homage to Kenneth Anger's "Lucifer Rising" , here's the entire trance inducing short film for those [...]
Spectral Empire - Black Shark is now available for purchase on Thisisnotanexit Records . Our friends at 20JFG were kind enough to introduce me to this group and requested my video treatment for the single. After hearing this gorgeously dark, brooding instrumental piece I was immediately hooked. The song really has a wonderful cinematic feel to it, which fit easily with the video narrative. I was also aided with an intense storyline that the always amazing writers at 20JFG came up with to compliment this release. All I can say is, Spectral Empire [...]

I want to know, why Salem ended up like they did. I imagine eating radioactive cereals did the job. Listening to their tracks makes me cringe, whine and shake through every inch of my body. In a good way, that is. Whether they're aiming for a blatant ripoff of Streets of Philadelphia or just plain dubstep inspired awesomeness, they're always strikingly perfect. This mix for the ever eclectic 20 Jazz Funk Greats captures an equally eclectic musical background in a 27 minute mix. The beauty of Salem, which is also very present [...]
Pic by Bea Fremderman Fitting for this pretty much non-existent summer weather we're having here in Sweden at the moment, here's a mix that Salem did for 20 Jazz Funk Greats which just happens to be one of the best blogs around. "...a disarming patchwork of haunted juke hall malevolence, cave crunk atmospherics, brain breaking tekno noise, and crackling transmissions from a childhood spent floating down beautiful starlit rivers in the constant glare of hidden monsters." Salem - XXJFG Mix (direct link) [...]
Last month we were joined by birthday boy Stuart Lamour (who some of you may know from his good work over at 20jazzfunkgreats ). Stuart had done his research and unearthed a nice batch of French and electronic sounds to add some zing to the evening. Much fun was had by all, and we have each chosen a song we played as a gift in mp3 format. Here's how we soundtracked the evening: Sarah Depeche Mode – New Life OMD – Mystereality Visage – Damned Don't [...]

image via Ok ok, we all went to xxjfg dj gig at the ICA on Saturday night, drunk much vodka, spilt much vodka and resisted the urge to dance like a flaky limbed combatant. Yet what fun. A crystal daze of music and shoddy lights, the murmurings of resentful friends dragged along against their better judgement, only to be hip thrusting to the sound of some Lindstrom. As an ode to the greatest music blog in the world, ever.... MP3: The Golden [...]

From 20 Jazz Funk Greats : 'Just to remind y'all, XXJFG is hitting up NYC again. It's this Friday at OULU which is just off of Bedford in Williamsburg. Come, get merry and dance to some drum odysseys with us.'
