Probably one of the most criminally underrated post-punk-funk acts of the early 802s, 400 Blows for me sit on the same pedestal as A Certain Ratio and 23 Skidoo. Danceable dark grooves, replete with thick slap bass and horns. Their first album in 1985 (after a run of singles and EP's going back to 1982) "...if I kissed her I'd have to kill her first..." (a quote from serial killer Edmund Kemper) is a total classic. 'Movin' comes from their third album released in 1986 on the iconic Illuminated Records label, and 'G.I.' is a collab between [...]
Bouuuuhouuuuuuuu! Quitte à mal jouer, autant [...]
After a little break I'm back in my French corner and feeling re-invigorated. This is an oscillating bit of post-punk, a direct descendant of This Heat, 23 Skidoo and Ski Patrol from Parisian band Post. The age-old problem of what language to sing in is sidestepped by Matthieu bellowing nonsense over the long, anti-guitar build up, until the death-disco swing at the end. Ace.

Maximum Joy were one of the splinter groups of The Pop Group, the 80's Post-Punk-Funk pioneers, and damn do their tunes still have more life than ever. Running similar lines were 23 Skidoo, also of the UK, who were not only working the original Industrial music lines, but incorporating elements of funk through it. This tune was actually 'supposedly' sampled by/inspired The Chemical Brothers in their classic tune 'Block Rockin Beats'. Time for a classic bit of art-funk from the '80s. This is the track that should have given 23 Skidoo a bit of well-deserved commercial success. It never happened. But listen to this and tell me that you can't hear how half of all the UK dance music of a decade later came directly from this source. It's the wellspring, I'm telling you. 23 Skidoo - Coup (alternate download)
Legendary BBC radio DJ John Peel (born John Robert Parker Ravenscroft) was solely responsible for exposing the world the artists that wouldn't get a chance to be heard otherwise (although he also recorded popular/mainstream acts, such as 10,000 Maniacs, AC/DC and A Flock Of Seagulls). With his passing in October of 2004, the world lost [...]

With their unique fusion of tribal rhythms and industrial/experimental music, 23 Skidoo became a highly influential band in their own right, although they're best known for being sampled by the likes of Chemical Brothers (Block Rockin' Beats) and Future Sound Of London. The band was started in 1979 and its sound was a result of bands [...]
