With techno and its many subgenres moving into more explosive, dynamic samples and sound manipulations, it is always great to hear an artist that combines the minimalist, percussive-heavy style of techno, with the more modern, dubstep sounds of today. 25622s Fever does just that. David Huisman's production is enticing. "Winamp Melodrama," and its spastic, staccato percussive hits are the first thing to hit you, followed by warped synths and spacey loops. This week's Friday Night Party Starter (Vol. 2) comes from another Hessle Audio producer, Blawan. Back in March we featured Blawan's EP, Bohla . For his 3rd LP, Dave Huismans, aka 2562 / A Made Up Sound, moved away from the disparate influences of techno towards a more liquid, grooveable swagger. This is notable change from his previous releases, Aerial and Unbalance , which themselves were heavier and spacier - almost dystopian. Fantastic new record out this week from Dave Husiman in his 2562 guise; 'Fever' follows on from previous long players 'Aerial' & 'Unbalance', with production values of the highest order. Strict parameters have been imposed on the construction of 'Fever', with every sound (hat/kick/lick) used being taken from a disco record. The long awaited concept album by 2562 has finally dropped. When the album was first touted, we were told it was entirely constructed from disco samples from the 702s and 802s. This is in fact true but you would be hard pushed to find any Earth Wind & Fire in there. What we have instead is an album of slashes and cuts, drop and bends.
