I like rooftop gardens. They are, like, one of the best things in the known universe. Throw some top class electronic music, a Jamaican BBQ and live graffiti in the mix under the gaze of the elusive British sun and you have got yourself one hell of a Saturday summer soiree. A soiree that takes place on 4 August at the quaint Dalston Roof Park . Which all sounds well and good, but amidst the fumes of the sizzling jerk chicken and in between the lashings of spray-paint there is even more good times ahead. Good times [...]

★★★☆☆ Aaron Thomason proceeds with his glum outlook and remains poet laureate for a settlement that you won’t find on any map. A sophomore album of hip-hop instrumentals etched in folk melancholy and a tense yet beautiful itchiness, he creates a world of folklore in which 2econd Class Citizen commits his own Grimm fairytales to a sepia-toned storybook. Through the off-color mood that has become his trademark dictates, trudging through acoustica and reverb as if dealt the wrong cards throughout life while the band plays on, 2CC does make hearts beat faster. The drama, [...]

Every generation seems to have it's mantra that it pumps into every argument as the panacea for what is wrong with the world. These are often so morally pure and generic that they can be used by all for whatever their purpose may be. For a long time the rallying cry was, "do it for the kids". I dare you to try and go against that. Seen for what it is, the religious value system morality banner, this has become cliche as the new generation refuses to grow past identifying themselves as perpetually young. Youth have no need to protect [...]

When we see the artwork above, we immediately think Super Metroid , but maybe that's just us. It's still cool though. So it has always been a Ninja Tune shtick to have old school samples peppered throughout their jams, but this new release from DJ Food has a distinctive sound we're used to. For instance, one of our favorite DJ Food tracks of all time is DJ Food fear. Ken Nordine - "The Ageing Young Rebel:" That came out over 11 years ago, and this release from DJ [...]

The visual and aural aesthetics of music should blend the same. The art of an album should reflect the music, not the musician. Sometimes those two are inseparable; Iggy Pop comes to mind. However, most times when an musician is on the cover of their own album, it says they are more interested in their own fame than the presentation of the music (excluding any blue note albums, of most jazz album really). Great album covers often reflect the music and the imagery becomes synonymous, almost as expressive, and respected as such. Joy Division, Velvet Underground, Dj Shadow, Ween, Primus, [...]
