One of the greatest music festivals in the world recently returned as a championship contender when they released their lineup for 2013. Lately, the festival seemed to rely mainly on its prestige alone. After all, it is a festival that spans over 11 days and has more than 800 acts performing on 11 different stages. The festival is a vision of the great late mayor of Milwaukee, Henry Maier, who wanted a massively relative festival that would compare to the joyous Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. He started the tradition that became Summerfest in 1968. The lineup [...]

During a pivotal scene in American Psycho, Christian Bale's character manically waxed poetic about the music of Huey Lewis & The News , declaring "Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost." It was that album that propelled the Bay Area-based band into stardom, spawning four Top 10 singles - [...]

Well guess what ya big dummy? You're wrong. Psymbionic remixed this song into a sweet mellow/dubby track that will have you singing all of your favorite parts again while your head bobs up and down to the beat. Check out our other Psymbionic post here! [...]

Last year we picked a theme for our Best Mashups of 2011 , which we called "Mashups Not Inspired by Glee," but this year we decided to go with a more positive approach. For 2012, our tribute goes out to Ms. Anna Kendrick. She first caught our eye in Rocket Science and now most recently in Pitch Perfect . And although Pitch Perfect wasn't really our kinda film, Anna playing an aspiring DJ & mashup artist was probably the hottest thing, and DJ, of 2012. Another change to this year's [...]

Looking for some new music to divulge in? Check out Baltimore’s Ballyhoo! Playing the entire summer on the House of Marley stage at Warped Tour, Ballyhoo gained a huge following this summer. Not only did they play Warped, they’ve shared the stage with acts such as 311 and Slightly Stoopid. Their latest work is Daydreams which really offers a good look at what Ballyhoo! is all about. Ballyhoo literally means blatant advertising or a loud clamor. They do well with their blatant advertising by playing an entire Warped Tour, but I’m not so [...]

Saying that Snoop Dogg is currently undergoing an artistic renaissance largely overlooks the fact that he has, since the early ’90s, always been a versatile pop fixture. Instead, Snoop is experiencing a reinvention—or as his ... read more »

Though Norah Jones built her reputation with a string of soccer-mom friendly albums, the singer-songwriter doesn't want you to think that she's not hip. In fact, it seems that she wants to hammer that point home by teaming up with "IT" producer Brain Burton, aka Danger Mouse, for her latest studio album Little Broken Hearts , which hits stores on May 1 via her longtime label Blue Note Records. While Jones and Burton originally began working together on the record back in 2009, it wasn't until the duo reconvened last summer, when Jones [...]

I don't see enough of my favorite 902s - early 002s groups getting mashed, but Fullhaus comes through once again with a solid flowing mix of two. Taking vocals from Wiz Khalifa's "Rolled Up" & that nostalgic beat from 3112s "Mixed Up," Fullhaus puts on one clever show. It may be a little difficult for 311 fans to grasp at first, but once you let it start flowing, it's one smoooooth ride. Fullhaus Styles: Mashup, Moombahskeet Location: Atlanta, Georgia Fullhaus on: SoundCloud | Facebook [...]

It's hard to believe that 22 years ago, KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles started out with a handful of bands who actually played acoustic sets. Fast forward to 2011 and any band would love a coveted spot in the lineup at the Gibson Amphitheatre. The weekend sells out in a matter of seconds and two worthy charity organizations benefit. This year, night one benefited Para Los Niños, a non-profit family service agency designed to raise at-risk children out of poverty and into brighter futures through positive educational opportunities and support. While night two benefited the Al [...]
