After their 2010 debut, Vancouver five piece, 41ST AND HOME returned last July with a seven song EP, Raised by Wolves. Today's featured track is the first single, Gorbachev, of which they've also made a great video for. The song opens with manic beating drums, guitar squalor, frenzied strings, and blaring trumpets and then aptly transforms into a pretty powerful anthem. Also of note is the second single from the EP, Wilderness Eyes. The band informs us that the video is now debuting across the interwebs starting with the site - Exclaim! [...]
Quick Picks: 5 Tasty Jams You MUST Hear Alt-J (∆)- Breezeblocks Tommy Ashby- Broken Bones 41st and Home- Gorbachev The Chevin- Champion Transfer- Wake to Sleep Alicia Atout
It goes without saying that the fall mixtape is my favorite of the year. I've spent the last two weeks narrowing this down to what hopefully will be as rad to hear on your end as it is each time I listen through it on mine. Getting the closest friends, setting your destination for the [...]
One good re-post of a great song with a new video deserves another! When the Ack initially posted on Gorbachev from Vancouver's 41st and Home last year, he led off with a bunch of ramble-y stuff (which one would normally associate with me) and then said "Basically all that preamble means one thing; SUMMER JAM". Man, "summer jam" in all caps? In the words of the immortal D.O.C. , that is serious bi-ness. 41st and Home understand this, and commissioned a worthy video, which features a water fight of epic proportions. Great video for [...]

You know the drill. Here are my favourite songs from the past year...#11-20. 20. San Cisco - Golden Revolver Another band that came to me in an email. As soon as I say they were from Australia I was instantly hovering over the trash button but I must have been in a good mood because instead of clicking on the garbage can, I clicked on their bandcamp link. What I found was this beauty. Golden Revolver has been [...]
![[Playlist] The Restaurant – Opening Hours](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3901408_lg.jpg)
So, over the past couple months I have been attempting to learn how to run a restaurant. On my parade through the many positions and shifts that happen on a daily basis, I have noticed a variety of musical themes to the day. By far my favourite so far has been the first few hours that you have before the doors are unlocked in the morning. Durnig this time there is a lot of paperwork done, money counted, payroll entered and most of all, A LOT of coffee/espresso/cappuccino/etc consumed. To balance out the caffeine highs, I have turned to my [...]

For those of you who have visited this particular blog in the past, it is no secret that I will shortly be packing up the family and moving out west. I'm opening a new pizza place on Commercial Drive that I hope each and every one of you will have a chance to frequent consistently in the near future. Aside from the business side of the move, I am most excited about living in a city with a reliable music scene. I have spent a lot of time pondering all of the shows I will be [...]

. . . 41st And Home - "Wilderness Eyes" [mp3] "Wilderness Eyes" is a song that from the first note I knew I was in love with. This is the kind of song I'm likely to hit repeat on and just let it play over and over. 41st and Home's sound is obviously Vancouverish. I [...]

With a diverse and talented slew of artists representing our northern neighbor, including Drake, Justin Bieber, and Celine Dion, it is no surprise that Canada's latest band, 41st and Home, is establishing themselves as a rising contender in the music industry with their debut album release, "Left in Places". The Vancouver-based quintet comprised of science students with a do-it-yourself attitude and a mini-orchestra of members, including a violinist, pianist, and bassist, are responsible for their own engineering, management, and publicity, many of the essential factors that today's most prominent recording artists outsource to professionals. Yet, without the hovering [...]

I'm back from the UK! In the past two weeks I have: -Seen seven bands live. The only one that was tolerable was a traditional Scottish duo called Duncan Mackinnon and Jock the Box . -Sat on a train in the London Underground across from a guy wearing a Vancouver Voodoo jacket. -Ridden the Harry Potter train and seen Platform 9 3/4 . -Watched two different documentaries about Bansky and seen two of his pieces in person. -Consumed an unhealthy amount of Irn-Bru . [...]

I am very excited to share this show with you for a few reasons. Primarily because I am personally very excited to have a show of this caliber coming to my hometown of Chilliwack. The second reason I am very happy to share this with you is because this is an excellent, very affordable opportunity [...]

So hear it is. The result of months of hard work from some of our favorite bands across this nation (and even a special cameo from one of our favorite American outfits). Basically, the idea was simple: Pay tribute to a Canadian legend on Canada Day. Oh, and get some free content for the blog of course. In all seriousness, Gordon Lightfoot has been making music for decades and his stories are passed from generation to generation. Unfortunately, when asked about the greatest Canadian songwriters, Gordon is often left off the list. [...]
