The Reworks will hit stores February 26 and Zo!'s upcoming album ManMade will be out this Spring, both on +FE Music.

I've not really checked for Foreign Exchange (producer Nicolay and words man Phonte) since their excellent first LP, Connected. Shit, I think that's going on nine years now? Wow. Time to school up... starting with FE's new compilation, +FE Music: The Reworks. As you'll no doubt guess (unless you're a dullard... I know you're out there, I read the comments), The Reworks is made up of remixes of Foreign Exchange material, plus some cuts from their +FE label. There's [...]

In October the music world lost legendary Chicago folk-singer songwriter Terry Callier . Over the span of a 50-year career, Callier defined a minimal, heartfelt style, collaborating with the likes of Massive Attack, 4 Hero and Beth Orton. Massive Attack's 3D has paid homage to Callier — who sang on 20062s "Live With Me," one of his band's career-defining songs — via a free mixtape called Terry Callier - The Windmill Hill Sessions . Featuring recordings he made with Callier at a studio in Bristol, the 15-minute mix is filled with bits [...]

Arguably the most talented producer to emerge from the UK underground to date, Wookie (aka Xmen or Exemen), is a figurehead of the garage scene and has a striking number of club classics under his belt including remixes for the likes of Lily Allen, Jill Scott, John Legend, Gabrielle, Masters at Work, Jessie J, Soul II Soul, Angie Stone, Faithless, and Sia to name a few. His unique sound and the high caliber of production earned him respect throughout the industry making him one of the most sought after producers in the game. Heavily influenced [...]

We've previously covered 4 Hero's downtempo material in the Classics section of the site and today we're taking a trip back to 1991 with this breakbeat classic from the duo. Kicking off with the creepy "your son is dead" sample and throwing ravey stabs over some classic breaks and a big truck full of sub bass, it's an anthem that's stood the test of time nicely. Originally released on the "Combat Dancin" EP on Reinforced the track has seen many many remixes over the years - none [...]

Mattered Much (feat. Olivier Daysoul) by Oddisee Fact, this track was not made for RCP. After putting together 9 songs for the album, Oddisee went back in hard drive, dug this song up and realized it was made for Rock Creek Park. Oddisee's really proud of the drum programming on this track, it took him a long ass time to program all those rolls. The guitars played by Andy Faus give it such a grimy feel while Lucan’s strings polish the track. Definitely a track produced by the ’96 Reasonable Doubt in Oddisee, meeting [...]

The Foreign Exchange - Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange FE+ Music: 2011 What began as a side project for Little Brother emcee Phonte has morphed into the focus of his music career. Phonte and Nicolay as The Foreign Exchange debuted seven years ago during a very short lived revival of Native Tongue-isms with their praised conscious lounge set Connected. Four years later FE alienated many of that fan base as they transformed into a full blown contemporary adult R&B act and gained a whole new audience. [...]

4hero received a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their 'Two Pages' album in the late 902s but most people know them for their cover of Minnie Julia Riperton's (who died tragically aged only 31) 19702s hit 'Les Fleur' which featured on a Bailey's advert in 2004. Sometimes the marketing men get it spot on and this was one of those occasions. Hardly hurt the London act either because they brought out a compilation of their best stuff that very same year. Not a huge gap between this and the original, perhaps a little more pulse and heavier beats but [...]

In the spirit of giving, UK group Mancini & The Creepers have taken it upon themselves to send over a couple of their tunes, 'Trouble' and 'Gold Sand', for your listening pleasure today. How very Christmassy of them. As I'm busy preparing for Santa's visit tonight (don't even try and tell me the big dawg isn't real - some dreams aren ' t meant to be crushed), here's a rundown from Mancini and the crew about what they do: "Bristol and London-based Mancini & The Creepers continue [...]

I was a huge fan of 4 Hero's early jungle and breakbeat work but personally wasn't hugely taken with their smoother/jazzier material. This track however jumps out from their 2001 "Creating Patterns" album and never fails to bring a smile to my face and a lump to my throat. Minnie Riperton of course was the first to record the track, and as timeless as it is, I could never get enough of 4 Hero's cover and Carina Andersson's brilliant vocal. Adding their unique polish and upping the epic [...]

4Hero-Naima (Remix) Download audio file (Naima-Remix.mp3) Whenever people reference Blind I, or the kind of music we post, especially in our monthly compilations, the word "taste" comes up a lot. Individually and collectively we all have a very specific ear and that's what draws you in to either hate or love it. Sometimes when I put mine together, I try to switch things up a bit to reach and satisfy different tastes, but this month, it's just [...]
