What an eventful weekend. Friday night we celebrated Tom's birthday (and I stayed sober! wow!) out in North Hollywood. Last night I went to a birthday party/murder mystery party that was both stupid and amazing in equal measure (and I didn't stay sober! wow!). Got home shortly before sunrise and managed to make it into [...]
Joe writes: For me the litmus test of a TV-related hit single is "Would it have been a hit for an unknown artist who wasn't guaranteed TV exposure?". The answer is emphatically "yes" in the case of my top five Simon Cowell-related releases: 5. Earthquakes - Labrinth feat. Tinie Tempah Surely the coolest track Simon Cowell has ever touched, despite his slightly cringeworthy namecheck. The moment where a choir of monks sings the chorus a cappella is truly inspired. [...]
"Time Baby 2" is simultaneously one of the most widely heard Medicine songs...
Photo credit: Helen Shaffer "Who" is a bonus track coming from the Red Bull Big Tune's finalists' compilation. The compilation is entitled Suite Sixteen and it showcases each finalist's work. There are sixteen tracks from sixteen producers and Erica's song is lucky number seventeen. An interesting thing about this track is that five finalists, along with another producer, all co-produced "Who". Naturally, it may seem that the production would be jumbled, but it's actually the complete opposite. Erica Thompson - Who (Produced by KDCutz, Sky Scrapa, Boonie Mayfield, [...]

This is a special Monday List to celebrate one of my best friends birthday. Today, Emma leaves teenager-dom behind and turns 20. So to celebrate here's 20 random facts (in no certain order) about Emma and some songs to go along with them. 1. She's a vegetarian MP3: The Knife - Vegetarian Restaurant 2. She's more than a tad brainy MP3: The National - [...]

Why on earth does Hypem hate me so bad? It seems that whenever the hosting goes down and its time to revert back to the horrible YouSendIt, for some reason only half the tracks that I put on YSI hypem picks up. One of the main people to suffer from this horrible failure is my favorite person Benson, he always remixes the most amazing tracks that will blow most people away but once again YSI fails us all, so basically this post is a dedication to get Benson on hypem. Everytime I have dropped these tracks in a club kids [...]
In case you've forgotten, today is the longest day of the year. That doesn't mean it just feels like the longest day of the year, but that it is the day with the most hours/minutes of sunlight. Plus, doesn't every single day feel like the longest day ever to you? Well, it does to me. Nicci and I dined at the Mission Cantina on Sunset late last night, and let me tell you - their menu is awesome. It's small, since the setting is more pub-like than restaurant-like, but the food was ridiculously good. I'll review it in [...]

Photo: Hope You Enjoy The Show I don't think I can do anything but laugh in amazement and awe at this first track that I am posting, the concept of remixing the original track is amazing and the way that it is done is brilliant. Now you might be asking yourself what the fuck am I talking about, well it is the latest from the boy wonder that is Benson, once again he has chosen a track from the 90s and have re created it to a club banger to get any white boy shaking [...]

Somewhere between my apartment and the AT&T store in Los Feliz I decided that I was going to finally try the burrito at Yuca's. I'm pretty sure I came to this conclusion as I was driving up Hillhurst towards Los Feliz. What sparked the idea? Why, driving right past Yuca's, of course! There was a small crowd gathering -- normally the stand is packed during lunch hours -- and I had a fresh $20 bill burning a hole in my pocket. There's no better time to try a long-desired burrito than when you're just trying to scrape by until September's [...]

For some of you, each weekend is a new opportunity to do something exciting and life-affirming. For worthless cretins like myself, it's just another two days in the middle of my work week. Hopefully you will pick up the slack and do something doubly entertaining for the both of us. I'm with you in spirit, people. I mean that in the sense that I've broken into all your homes and left a load in your hair while you were sleeping. I...have a lot of free time to travel. It was not my intention to open today's post with [...]
Every Wednesday, your hosts post a suitably stale video clip that we think needs to be revisited. Click here for more Crusty Clips. Got a clip you think we should post? Send it to crustcake@gmail.com . Crusty Clips brought to you by Metal Injection . 5ive are actually two and the two create huge doomtastic riffs (did I just write doomtastic?). These guys fill up the space with no extra room for a bass player (except that one time they recorded and toured for the album The Hemophiliac [...]

But first, I have to review this week's news! Hmm...I see...yes, well, that's very interesting ... Oh, I didn't know that was still happening ... You mean they haven't cured it yet? ... I have a difficult time believing his review ... WHy would anybody go see that movie? ... Who owns stock these days? ... Isn't science just the most fascinating ... He's dating her ? ... I didn't know that piss-poor country even had a president! ... Oh shit. I was holding it upside down! [...]

Ah, work. Where I spend money I don't have on LPs because I see them cross my path during the day and grow to desire them more and more greatly over the course of the next several hours. And how tired I am when I come home. How bored I am waiting for something to happen 'round these parts. The clock could not move any slower when I am waiting for plans to form. I've never liked it. I can be very, very impatient. Especially when hungry. Of course, this would seem hypocritical when weighed against the fact that I [...]

I guess today is another one of those two-update days. Aren't you readers lucky? Both music related! I guess I'm finally living up to my billing as a music blogger? The thought of it might be sickening, sure, but the reality is that I try to spend as little time writing about music as a music nerd possibly can. I don't want to bore anyone. With that in mind, here's another music related entry. A mix tape! RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be [...]

So, according to this especially brutal thread on Hipinion (complete with a bunch of not particularly relevant photos of Ryan Schreiber), it was Pitchfork that leaked Joanna Newsom's Ys , three months in advance. The thread also alleges that the non-protected directory included numerous albums, including Tapes 'n Tapes , the unreleased Blood Brothers , and MC Hammer , as well as all 200 songs used in the Pitchfork Best of the 1960s Feature. Probably not good for them at all. Moving on... [...]
