Christmas 2011 is rapidly retreating into the rearview window of 2012, but it's never too early to start celebrating Christmas 2012, right? Kidding there, but Christmas more than anything is all about traditions. My family has done pretty much the same thing for every Christmas since I can remember no matter where we are, of course with a little tweak here or there. One thing that never changes is our Christmas music. My oldest sister starts blasting Christina Aguilera's My Kind of Christmas as early as possible and that is gradually joined by the Three Tenors and some [...]

Not sure what happened to Pappy this weekend, but I'd like to see Sunday Skool get back on track. I know a lot of you were enjoying Pappy's insight into the scene and its roots, so as soon as I hear from him I will let you know. For today, I've got something special for you since its been a few days since my last post. I've been doing a lot of edits for my sets over the last week or so and I just started working on splicing and dicing these guys. The sound is so meaty and the [...]
these are still jamz...don't hate. Quad City DJ's "C'mon N Ride It (The Train)" Freak Nasty "Da Dip" 69 Boyz "Tootsee Roll" <3

It's Christmas Eve, making this day 11 of the series. Before tomorrow's big reveal of the greatest Christmas album of all time, here are some of the random bits of Christmas I came across this month. The Best Christmas Music Video Ever Ali Lohan, Lindsay's 15-year-old younger sister, decided to make a song called "Christmas Magic." That's fine. It's nothing special, but it appeals to the Radio Disney crowd. The video for the single on the other hand is a MUST SEE. I cannot put any more emphasis on this. It is [...]

I have a real love/hate relationship with Christmas music. On the one hand, I feel like the genre is forced upon me a bit prematurely , and if I never hear the synth sounds of Manheim Steamroller again that would be just fine. On the other hand, each year usually brings a few truly enjoyable songs. Since I subjected you all to a Sara Bareilles/Ingrid Michaelson track last week , I felt like I should balance things out with "12 Ghetto Days Of Christmas (What You Want For Christmas?)" by the Quad City DJs and the [...]
* Sung to the melody of the actual song * "I don't know what you been told, but ain't a damn thang wrong with liking the Tootsie Roll..." When the shit dropped in '94, there was no fuckin way you could have me admit that it was okay to enjoy a little Tootsie Rollin'. But a few days ago, the lil dude's belly was hurting & he kept complaining all night. So I made a song, word to the spontaneous Cliff Huxtable characteristic in my nature. [...]
Its time for the percolator. Curtis Jones was studying towards becoming a Chemical Engineer at the University of Illinois when he made this song on a $60 keyboard, a four track and a cheap drum machine. Curtis would then go on to work under the "Green Velvet" moniker and play a huge role in the house scene throughout the 90's. What's even better than the percolator is the percolator dance which sadly, not enough people know. Get you youtube on. More recently Mr Jones has become a born again Christian after a GHB and [...]

FACTS: - "The celebrated shape of a "Bass booty" body draws more on a realistic female image than the waif ideals which distort the high fashion pages and runways. Furthermore, many of our field reporters witnessed a variety of women enjoying (and expressing) themselves freely at Bass functions." (frequ.com) - "Booty Poppin'- (noun) 1. The act of shaking one's ass cheeks in such a way that they smack together and separate repeatedly. Often observed in strip clubs or hip-hop (booty) videos." (rapdict.org) [...]

First things first... that Common Gap commercial has a nice beat. I don't like to do much of the sample spotting... but I was vexed when I found out Will flipped "Holiday" and added a few kicks and pieces (one of which being Bob James "Mardi Gras" fill). EVEN STILL... Will.I.Am is killin it this year with the production, so I once again give him props. Though he still has a lot to do to make up for Fergie (get your money Will!). Moving on... Fuck Christmas. I'm not really [...]

This is a free crash course in music education from the last 40 years, courtesy of Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk . It goes by really, really fast. My blogger pal Bruce (of Some Velvet Blog hotness fame) came up with an idea to do a massive joint post of all the songs from the ADD-inducing, mile-a-minute mashup disc Night Ripper ( previous post ), which uses over a hundred original songs to make the 42 minutes of party goodness on this album. We both [...]
