There's a chance for magic when musicians cross paths. For some it's groundbreaking ( Aerosmith ft. Run DMC – "Walk This Way" ), and other times it's the thought that counts ( Nelly ft. Tim McGraw – "Over and Over" ). But when there's that spark that elevates a collaborated piece to a whole new level, well, that's the stuff that melts the hearts of music fans. No longer are artists forced to snail mail DATs to each other via the Postal Service or find the time to meet in the studio. Online file sharing has facilitated endless possibilities for [...]

I spent the weekend in Cincinnati watching my Reds retake first place in the NL Central from the St. Louis Cardinals. I was at Saturday's game that featured two home runs from Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez, an outstanding pitching performance from Johnny Cueto, and a three RBI day for Brandon Phillips. It was a great day at the ball park. Now... None of that means anything to most of you other than to say that I was out of town this weekend and didn't have time to work up an in-depth album review of any kind. [...]
KT Tunstall performs live here with a nice montage of images and clips sharing a new song off her upcoming album, 'Tiger Suit' out in September. Last time we heard of any new music was last summer where she has collaborated in the 7 Worlds Collide project . We're excited to hear more of her new album. Enjoy 'Push That Knot Away' above. End of the year. Time to take stock and to stock up on prescriptions before the old health insurance, or what's left of it, rolls over. As such, each member of [...]

At a recent Portland performance Liam Finn was a man possessed, bouncing between guitar and drums while looped beats and riffs blasted alongside him. Musical partner Eliza-Jane Barnes provided sort of a calming elegance with her sweet harmonies and delicate percussion. The chemistry is difficult to catch on wax. And while Finn's recorded output is tame in comparison, it does capture one thing-his knack for blending pop sensibilities with fearless noise experimentation. It's good stuff, and his 2008 debut I'll Be Lightning easily made TDoL's Year-End List [...]

Members of Crowded House, Wilco, the Smiths, and Radiohead get together and record an album for charity.

Liam Finn live @ Dante's Portland, Oregon New Zealand's Liam Finn and Eliza Jane performed last month here in Portland. We weren't sure exactly what to expect from this musical duo. We had read a few reviews on Liam's debt album, I'll Be Lightning , as well as listened to a few of his new tracks off his latest EP, Champagne in Seashells, and were excited to see him perform live. Some background on Liam: He was born in Melbourne, Australia but calls New Zealand his home as [...]

Now, I don't know if I'd call myself a Finn brothers groupie or not, but I'll tell you, ever since the day that I first heard "Poor Boy," off of the Split Enz True Colours album, I've picked up just about everything that Neil or Tim or Neil and Tim have ever done. And truth be told, rarely have the Finn brothers ever let me down. With an uncanny knack for a melody, and golden-soaked voices, the New Zealand brothers really know their way around a pop song. Imagine my delight [...]

Serious bad day yesterday, so no post. Was and still am very upset about something that happened and was said to me. I guess I deserved what I got. All I was trying to do was express my opinion. Sometimes wonder if this is all worth it or if anything is worth it. Sometimes wonder how I make it through each day. The post below took me a whole day (today) to do, I needed to keep my mind off things. Don't know what else to say. Here are new releases from Zero 7, Maps, Drummer, The Ettes [...]

7 Worlds Collide is the collaboration of Neil Finn, Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway, Johnny Marr, KT Tunstall, Lisa Germano, Wilco, Tim Finn, Bic Runga and Don McGlashan of the Mutton Birds. A whole cast of great musicians. Together they've made a fine album with some really great tunes (some filler too, especially on the double disc version). But it's an album worth hearing. It came out yesterday and you can stream it in full online. Stream: 7 Worlds Collide - Sun Came Out

7 Worlds Collide - Too Blue [Stream] Well, by now you ought to be familiar with my penchant for lush, sunny, and epic - perfect - pop music. Here's just about the motherlode when it comes to things like that. Forget your earlier concepts of "super groups", 'cause here's a little something that'll make you gasp. What do Neil, Tim & Liam Finn (Crowded House & son), Johnny Marr (c'mon...), Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), KT Tunstall, Lisa Germano, and a plethora of other pop celebs have in common? You guessed it. Each day, the now seemingly inevitable demise of Radiohead appears to be drawing closer. It all started with that "no new albums for a while" news back in August. Then we got those one-off new Radiohead tracks , which took the world by storm. Now we've got more Thom Yorke solo single releases rumored to be accompanied by a Yorke solo tour . And more recently, apparently drummer extraordinaire, Philip Selway, will be adding to the confusion. As many are already aware, while working on Neil Finn's 7 Worlds [...]
