After just four albums, The Smiths called it a day following 1987's Strangeways, Here We Come . Infighting between the group members took its toll, and sticking to their unsentimental nature, they have never reunited. So did they go out with a bang or a whimper?
Usually, I'd be the first to pan a group who actually sounds like other bands that came before them. But Faunts' Feel. Love. Thinking. Of. is more than just a copy of your favorite dancefloor tear-jerkers.
Like the day you first laid eyes on your wife or the moment you heard that the Challenger exploded, many people can recall their introduction to the glory that is the Smiths. This occasion usually occurs sometime during adolescence, just as puberty is starting to wreak havoc on your already confused brain.

I was flipping through eMusic the other day when I noticed a new release by an old favorite of mine, Extreme. I was a little apprehensive at first but figured what the hell, I'll download it. Boy am I glad I did. Here is a quick review. The title of the release is " Saudades De Rock ". In the opening line on the track "Slide" Gary Cherone sings "Find a groove and then drop the hammer." That pretty much sums up most of the tunes on the release. One of the reason [...]

I've had this late 80's classic lesbian-folk song in my head for the last few days - I blame The Office - and the only way I can think to get rid of it is to pass it on to you. So, sorry... I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains I looked to the children, I drank from the fountains Theres more than one answer to these questions Pointing me in a crooked line And the less I seek my source for some definitive (the less [...]

I heard Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon" on the way to the post office today. It was a welcome change from the syrupy Christmas Muzak that the City of Adelaide has decided to pipe into Rundle Mall to inspire that festive spirit and loosen the purse strings. Every time I hear "Karma Chameleon", I have a little giggle at myself. It's a musical reminder of my inherent cluelessness. In the autumn of 1983, Culture Club was red hot. Their sophomore album "Colour By Numbers" had hit number 1 in the UK and "Karma Chameleon" was all over pop radio, [...]

A magic carpet ride. *Sigh* It was a rough day... My job would be great if all I did was check artwork for print and I didn't have to worry about communicating with the clients. Trying to explain printing to someone who has no idea how it works is tiring, unfortunately that is about 95% of the population... Which is something I need to remind myself everyday. So in case you couldn't tell I needed a little pick me up after work... The first thing I went for was the debut album from Ladyhawke , it is [...]

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me. Chasing shadows moonlight mystery. Headed for the overload, Splattered on the dirty road, Kick me like you've kicked before, I can't even feel the pain no more... My first memory of The Rolling Stones is one of profound dislike. I'm not saying that I was some sort of music snob child progeny, but the Stones songs that I heard on Top 40 radio and saw on MTV in the early 80's just flat out sucked. Cap their sub-par 80's work off with the [...]
Truckasaurus - Super Copter A bit of fun for Friday and a spot of nostalgia too. Much of my childhood was spent being captivated by whatever U.S. film and TV shows I had access to - that is, when I wasn't spending half an hour waiting to see if the cassettes of my ZK Spectrum games would load. So my interest was piqued when I heard about a group of electronica musicians using Commadore 64s to make their tunes...including a cover of the Airwolf theme. Their album Tea Parties, Guns and Valor is out [...]

"Sunglasses at Night" is a song recorded by Corey Hart. It was the first single to be released off his debut album, 1984's First Offense. The song is considered by some to be a classic of 1980s New Romantic music, combining synthesizer pop, obscure lyrics and an almost Gothic ambiance in a hypnotic epic. The original version of "Sunglasses at Night" was about a totalitarian society that made everyone wear their sunglasses at night; however under pressure from Hart's record company to make something more marketable, the song was altered to be more "romantic". The video, however, reflects [...]
I'm new to this community. Shameless plug: my wife and I host an 80's (and late 70's) radio show every Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. Central time until 12 p.m. (for those outside the U.S., that's 15:30-17:00 GMT from April until October). You can find streaming audio on the WDBX web site. We play a fair amount of the "usual" 80's stuff, plus quite a few more obscure tunes. Oh yeah, Scottish stuff. Try these on for size...two of my favorites that you don't hear much about these days: [...]
