Whether by a lapse of judgment or a moment of charitable sentiment, I've agreed to be auctioned off in a Valentine's Day date auction to benefit charity. Although the event is tonight, I still haven't decided how I really feel about the "date-for-sale" concept on the whole. Regardless, I'll be on the block, so if you happen to be in Berkeley, definitely stop by (it's at 7:30 in Naia Lounge). As with any event or mood, there's a playlist to accompany the occasion. Ella Fitzgerald's take on Cole Porter standard "Love For Sale" is a standout of her songbook projects. [...]

It's finals week at UC Berkeley, which means lots of studying and not a whole lot of time for blogging. To tide you over for the weekend, here are some highly topical songs about science and math. I know, it sounds lame to be making a post related to my tests, but once you hear the tracks, it won't matter. First up is endlessly fun UK girl group Girls Aloud, with possibly their best single ever. "Biology" is far from typical British dance-pop, and showcases why they've managed to beat the Spice Girls' record of most consecutive top 10 hits [...]

"It's never getting better. It's only getting worse." A Camp ~ The Oddness of the Lord from A Camp by A Camp photo: Jayme ~ Gravediggaz complete lyrics in comments

a camp - i can buy you (mp3) ... what the hell are you doing?! i really feel the need to help correct the musical karmic imbalance created by the truly awful result of one ms persson's recent collaboration with the manic street preachers (i admit though, nicky wire's looking good for his age). luckily, it just so happens that one of my most favourite songs is by the lady in question; from the 'a camp' album she did with mark linkous (or mr sparklehorse to you and me). keep this on [...]
So yesterday I did the thing I told myself I would never do: I stood outside with a bunch of friends in the freezing cold to buy a Wii. I think my voice is gone, for reasons unknown to me; I guess the cold really doesn't like me. So in lieu of a really detailed and well-researched post about an obscure Greek calypso song about chinchillas, today you get the first song I could find in my music collection whose title vaguely resembles my plight from this morning. Yes, I can buy you. And unlike Nina Persson, [...]
Well I was home for Christmas, which for me means going back to the very middle of France, to La Creuse which is about as rural a region as you will find anywhere in central Europe. My folks live here, when the aren't teaching in Kiev, and it has been where the four of us call home for about fifteen or twenty years now. For my Christmas pictures, click here . They were all taken with a camera phone though, so don't expect art. One of the nicest things about going to see the [...]
