A Great Big Pile of Leaves unveils 'Snack Attack' from upcoming album

A Great Big Pile of Leaves unveils 'Snack Attack' from upcoming album What's worse than finding yourself lying awake late at night, requiring nourishment, but stuck with the realization that nothing all that edible is open at 3 in the morning? A Great Big Pile of Leaves can relate. When lead singer/guitarist Peter Weiland found himself in this predicament, his mind went about creating the Dismemberment Plan-sounding ode to this dilemma for the band's new track 'Snack Attack.' Frustrations be damned if this isn't one of the group's most satisfyingly catchy beach-pop songs yet. Weiland puts it best: "The song is like a trip to the boardwalk and a ride [...]

A Deli premiere: A Great Big Pile Of Leaves' "Writing Utensils" - live at The Knit on 07.13

A Deli premiere: A Great Big Pile Of Leaves' "Writing Utensils" - live at The Knit on 07.13 From a band who usually sticks to rocking out amid rakes of guitar fireworks and endless drum solos (like in their previous records 'The Fiery Works'), new single 'Writing Utensils' from Brooklyn based A Great Big Pile Of Leaves reads with a sense of either relief, or possibly foreboding... depending on how you interpret its softly churning melodic lines, and gently washy vocals, interrupted eventually by an ominous ending that may be hinting at greater madness to come. Could this portend a new range for the band? Are they really softies at heart, or sinister and [...]

Ten 2010 Albums Worth Another Listen [part 2]

Last time I covered five albums worth listening to that probably didn't quite make your top 50. It has come to my attention that 'worth another listen' isn't the most apt title - a lot of you may be listening to these artists for the first time. That said, I don't think it is quite worth a change of title, if only because I can't think of anything much better. On to the albums. I feel a little redundant, but Glass Rock is another band I've already covered . As [...]

Jazzing Up the Indie, Smoothing Out the Rock

Jazzing Up the Indie, Smoothing Out the Rock It has come to my attention that some people may find 1400+ word posts a little hard to get through. I'd be very glad to receive some feedback on that point in the comments, but for the time being I'll assume that there is some legitimacy to the claim. As a result, this post is going to be my attempt at a speed post: I'll brief the general idea and each artist, but leave it up to you to listen to the individual songs, and try to be a little more succinct with my writing. That said, jazz [...]

A Great Big Pile of Leaves Post New Song

A Great Big Pile of Leaves Post New Song A Great Big Pile of Leaves have posted a new song called 'Bring Back Breakfast' here .

New Album Releases For Tuesday 4/22/2008

New Album Releases For Tuesday 4/22/2008 Lots to talk about this week, so let’s get right to it. This week’s flagship album may just be Tokyo Police Club . Their album is absolutely top-notch and we give our highest recommendation. A few surprises before we get into some of the more talked about groups. A Great Big Pile Of Leaves is offering their mellow, yet pulsating album The Firey Works free on their website . After one listen through, I already have a few favorites. If you’re looking for some wonderful shoegaze, we recommend Christopher Bissonnette’s [...]
