It's International Women's Day 2011 and there's no better way to celebrate that to listen to A House's 'More Endless Art'! Formed in 1985, Irish band A House and after minor success in their home country with the singles "Call Me Blue", "I'll Always be Grateful" (1988) and "I Think I am Going Mad" (1990). When A House released their third album, I Am the Greatest, in 1991, the Dave Couse led band scored the first of only two UK top 50's with the classic single "Endless Art". Produced by Edwyn Collins, "Endless Art"
Rambling along like a stupid drunk who has just been dropped to the kerb by inconsiderate and untrustworthy "friends", comes the third Easy Music for Difficult Ears Spotify Playlist. Alas, it's May and things should be all sunny and glorious; however I have never done sunny and glorious and have no intentions of being happy now.In a ill-conceived attempt to soothe my sullen brow, here is May's

So we have a list of the Greatest Irish people ever! With everything we've all been put through it certainly is a time of reflection. As a nation we need a vision for the future so we don't make the same mistakes of the past. We need to remind ourselves about what it means to be Irish. We need to remind ourselves that being Irish is the greatest! Here's the list! Bono, Dr Noel Browne, Michael Collins, James Connolly, Stephen Gately, John Hume, [...]

Sadly during the week the music world lost Kate McGarrigle RIP. I've been a big fan of Rufus and later Martha. When I went back to Loudon Wainwright III and Kate's music it was no surprise that the siblings were destined to make magical music. There's a really great tribute to Kate on one of my favourite blogs here: http://coverlaydown.com/2010/0 1/rip-kate-mcgarrigle/ Here is A House' More Endless Art which is the female version of their hit 'Endless Art' and featured as a B-side to that single. If Dave Couse were to update 'More [...]

I suppose if I had been planning ahead, I could have come up with some interesting reference to Friday the 13th to post today. Oh well, guess I missed the boat on that one. I'm sure there's plenty of other blogs making those references, though, and I hate to look like I'm following the crowd. Here's a band that didn't like to follow the crowd, either (ooh, it's like I'm a real writer). A House formed in Ireland in the mid eighties. They put out three fantastic non-album singles, before [...]
Doin' it fer the kids The next two World Cup Qualifiers are crucial ones for some teams. By the summer of next year we may or may not see Argentina and Portugal. We most probably will not see Maradona (who is actually promising threatening to quit anyway) and Carlos Queiroz this time next week even if they somehow scrape through. In Group 8 there is still a chance for the Republic of Ireland to automatically qualify, but they will have to beat Italy at home on [...]

Van Cleef are a Dublin four piece who deserve kudos for listing BMX Bandits and Terace Trent D'arby amongst their influences on their MySpace. They release their debut album 'Supervillainesque' next month and it's a good fun album. The twelve tracks are well crafted pop rock tracks that give a nod in the direction to a lot of Irish bands on the circuit in the mid 90's like A House and The Fat Lady Sings. This record is just what a recession needs! It's packed full of bright sing-a-long harmonies that makes full use of Diarmuid's distinct vocal [...]

The blogsphere is a great place to wonder around on special occasions such as Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Christmas and St. Patricks Day. Here are the best blog posts I found celebrating Irish Music on the net: http://coverlaydown.com/ finds Boyhowdy celebrating the folkier side of U2 with a post of U2 covers by folk artists. Find tunes by Luka Bloom, Bell X1, The Walls and many more. http://troubledsoulsunite.blog spot.com/ is a great Pearl Jam inspired blog. The blog contains tunes by Thin Lizzy, The Pogues and Flogging Molly. [...]

The main feature on Mixtape4Melfi I was most proud of was the countdown of my Top 100 tracks of all time. I have decided to produce a Top 40 list of Irish artists and their best songsin honour of St. Patricks Day next Tuesday. Of course it's totally subjective but I'd love your comments: 1. Mark Dignam - Glide Mp3 Info 2. U2 - Bad 3. Thin Lizzy - Dancing In The Moonlight 4. Nick Kelly - Tiburon Prayer 5. The Frames - Fitzcaraldo 6. The Prayer Boat - Slow Down 7. Pony [...]

A House was one of Ireland's greatest bands of the 1990's and their cd's are still an aurel pleasure in this household. The frontman Dave Couse released an excellent album in 2005 with 'The Impossible' called The World Should Know. The band's website over at http://www.davecouse.com/forfr ee.php .... has a fair few free tracks including what looks like a free EP called Lokomotiv which can be found below: Beautiful Music Catalyst Faith Avenue [...]

Another mixtape4melfi repost here. In February, four middle age Irish Times rock critics created a top 40 Irish Album list of all time. As lists go.....this one stirred up many a comment or 220 odd on the Irish Times blog. Link: http://www.irishtimes.com/blog s/ontherecord/2008/02/29/the-t ickets-top-40-irish-albums-of- all-time/ So in the Irish Times on friday 29th Feb, the below list of the best 40 albums was compiled by 4 Ticket rock writers. I found the list [...]
A House were a great band and their 1992 "I Am The Greatest" album has been played alot this week in the car to remind of their greatness. Dublin combo A House came up with arguably one of the greatest singles of the 90s with 1992's #46 smash Endless Art , a roll call of many of the deceased greats in the fields of art, literature and music from the past several hundred years. Not only was this one of the best list songs of all time, the band also came up with this cracking promo video to accompany it: But, this art being endless and all, there was more to come: fourteen years later, erstwhile A [...]
Rhino's cool "alternative" box set of 2007 is The Brit Box which I wrote about back in August. It's in stores this week. As I said then, it does a pretty admirable job of documenting the cool music coming out...
In those long-gone days before iPods and burned CDs, when you wanted a nice assortment of songs to take on the road with you, you got your little 90-minute TDK cassettes and made yourself some mix tapes. And one of the inherent flaws of being constricted to 45 minutes per side was finding just the right amount of songs that fit, without clipping the end of the last song or leaving far too much empty hissing space you'd be forced to listen to or fast forward. That's when you reached for [...]
I was out at a black-tie dinner last night and didn't get home until after 5am. I'm feeling very tired and uninspired. Words are not coming easy. This is the song that I think best reflects my mood. No-one should take it personally. mp3 : Soft Cell - Entertain Me And here's more from the archive - originally posted on 3 October 2006. mp3 : A House - Endless Art mp3 : A House - More Endless Art
