Say the music of Toro y Moi and Teen Daze went out for one too many drinks and got a little carried away. Well that love-child would be the sound of John Jagos' solo project, Brothertiger . The tracks of this Ohio native are layered with 802s drum beats, glowing synths and hazy summertime vocals, keeping those listening in a constant state of nostalgia. Time to seize your Sunday with these fresh grooves and your dancing shoes... Brothertiger- Like Water Brothertiger- Feel Faces (Brothertiger [...]

Being asked to headline 2 nights in a row at The Mercury Lounge is definitely an excellent sign for an emerging band, since the staff who books the most prestigious of NYC small venues is known to be extremely picky. Brooklyn natives A Million Years - a band we've been following, featuring and also booking for quite some time - landed this double gig after selling out the venue in June. The quartet plays a punchy, at once catchy and incendiary brand of indie rock with epic tinges, reminiscent of a a darker and more aggressive version of [...]

No Distance Single by A Million Years Brooklyn indie-rockers A Million Years had a lot of people stop and take notice after releasing their debut CD, Mischief Maker , last summer. The disc was produced by Shannon Ferguson of Longwave and AbsolutePunk described it as the " lovechild of Interpol and As Tall as Lions ". The band played a number of high-profile shows last year with artists that included 30 Seconds to Mars, Phoenix, The Drums and Jesse Malin and ended the year being voted #4 in Deli [...]

Yesterday Alex Ebert released the video for the opening track off his self-titled album. It's a fairly tripped out video which made its release date of 4/20 all that much more appropriate. Alexander- "A Million Years" As an added bonus we've also been graced with a live acoustic video for "Up From Below", the title track from the band's 2009 release. Apparently there is also new music from Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros "right around the corner".

Dude, it's 4.20. Like, 10 years ago this day would've rocked. Despite the fact that there is far less weed in my life these days, I still dig videos featuring adorable little children and trippy imagery from one of my favorite hippies. Is it weird I wanna get married and walk down the aisle to this dude breathing heavily? Alexander Ebert :: A Million Years [STREAM] BUY [...]

The last time we checked in with A Million Years during CMJ, they were embarking on a journey down to Myrtle Beach to open for Phoenix . Not long after this amazing opportunity, they were asked to join Jesse Malin on a winter tour throughout Europe, and were able to graciously accept the offer thanks to many generous Kickstarter donations. The hits just keep coming for these talented guys, seeing as they managed to completely sell out last Friday's first back-in-NYC show of 2011 at Mercury [...]

I hate getting up early to get a workout in before my work day begins but today I was glad that I made it out the door because on my way back home this lovely piece of music made it's way through my speakers. This is another new track from Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros from his solo album. We've all been hearing "Truth" for quite sometime now and finally get to place a new sound with this album. "A Million Years" stays with Ebert's minimalist approach that he so loves. The [...]

A Million Years is a band that stimulates your senses and rocks your soul. I first saw the Brooklyn based quartet play a stint at the Studio at Webster Hall in NYC in early 2010 when they opened for TV/TV. I was taken over by their body-shaking, guitar- heavy, indie-rock grooves. Forming in 2007, A Million Years was born out of jam sessions with various band members in Keith Madden's (guitar/vocals) bedroom. Eventually the quartet fell into place with Andrew Samaha (bass/vocals), Andrew Vanette (drums/vocals) and Nick Werber (guitar/vocals) as its permanent members. The band has toured extensively throughout the [...]

Longwave's last show for a while, at Bowery Ballroom goes out with a bang.

CMJ is here once again! With a sigh of simultaneous excitement and premature exhaustion, we begin our festival week. We've outlined some of our most anticipated acts below. Read, listen and then get away from the computer and go see some amazing artists. Pete and the Pirates We put this dynamic and endearing band from Reading, UK under our spotlight a little over a year ago and interviewed them right before their BBC Electric Proms 2008 gig. They've been to SXSW but [...]

Sometimes music just clicks, like Tom Petty or Bloc Party or Blur. It's music that's timeless because it immediately strikes a chord, getting stuck in your head for days at a time. These bands have an ability to write tunes that move millions, and you can't really explain it, but they have staying power because they connect with each and every person that listens. Young Brooklyn quartet A Million Years is cut from the same cloth, as evidenced by their debut Incadescent EP. It's an early statement from a band that has a [...]

Tonight at the Mercury Lounge in NYC, a band I've been watching for a bit, A MILLION YEARS , fronted by Keith Madden, who happens to be a great guitarist as well. Also on the bill is a band we've played on the radio show quite a bit, THE KING LEFT , plus The Kiss Offs and The Howlies. $10 is cheap in NY. alt=rss
