By now most folks know where I stand on the present sensitive folk movement. Mainly that I’m over it. So today I thought I would prove I'm capable of more than just bitching and post some bands I actually like. And no, none of them formed in the 90’s. In my latest search for bands [...] The post Songs I like: Ladies Night appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

It is hard to believe that it has been almost five plus years since I first caught A Place To Bury Strangers at the Viper Room along with traveling to Texas to see them open for Nine Inch Nails . They tour tirelessly and consistently produce albums that will blow your mind as well as your eardrums. It was Cinco De Mayo and the Yost Theatre had a huge line up of psychedelic bands dubbing the day Psycho De Mayo which had A Place To Bury Strangers hitting the stage a little after 10:15. Unfortunately, [...]

A Place To Bury Strangers: Strange Moon - Imagine you’re in a grimy club. It’s smells of liquor, vomit, and sweat. You’re drenched. You’re too exhilarated to feel your exhaustion. The power of the music is the only thing keeping you standing. The crowd moves in violent waves and flourishes. This is the only way that you that you should properly hear A Place To Bury Strangers latest album, Strange Moon . Of course you can hear it on your iPod while on the way to work, but at least part of you is [...]

A Place To Bury Strangers have a prolific work ethic – they’re already working on album number four. Keep in mind it’s been barely a year since their last LP ‘Worship’ and just weeks since we got our hands on their new EP ‘Strange Moon’. The seven track release sees APBS cover the work of Oregon-based garage rock band Dead Moon . EP cut ‘I’m Wise’ gives you an idea of what to expect, this is a stripped back, raw APBS. The rough edges are a perfect fit. A Place To Bury Strangers [...]
A Place To Bury Strangers' exclusive Record Store Day release "Strange Moon," is a tribute to Portland punk veterans Dead Moon on 123 colored vinyl (for those vinyl fetishists out there). In conjunction with the record, the band released this statement: "I first saw Dead Moon perform around 1992. Dead Moon was my friends favorite band and soon to become one [...] The post A Place to Bury Strangers does Dead Moon, and the Question of Covers appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

A Place To Bury Strangers put their noisy spin on Dead Moon. A Place To Bury Strangers have shared one of the tracks from their Dead Moon covers LP, Strange Moon. Strange Moon...
It's Friday, and we are, as ever, rounding up the best songs we've heard this week, which to be honest is a rather pleasant distraction from all the other fucked-up stuff going on in the world. This week we swooned (again) at new material from Savages, were intrigued by the return of Laurel Halo, enjoyed the new Daft Punk song (albeit perhaps not quite as much as everyone else), and elsewhere generally got down to new stuff by Com Truise, Gunslinger, Tempers... and Black Sabbath, whose new song actually isn't that bad at all. Who'd have thought it? Anyway, click [...]

The Fires The 992s I'm Wise Dead Moon Night Graveyard [...]

Fuzzy guitars, a casual 90’s slacker vibe, and vulnerable lyrics coexist to give you exactly the album you crave when you’re teetering as a wallflower.

I saw this list the other day and felt compelled to make a more comprehensive, accurate, and essential rundown of albums that have truly stood out in a musical and historical sense. Albums that are influential, groundbreaking and still memorable. And let's be clear that bands like Galaxie 500, Mercury Rev, Verve, Mazzy Star, etc., these are all great bands that have produced some astounding work, but they are definitely not shoegaze. It's obviously way too early to rank the new MBV album so I'm not even gonna go there. [...]

New York three-piece Dead Leaf Echo have been drifting around since beginning in 2006. Never gaining huge word-of-mouth nation-wide, the band was still highly regarded in their native city, and hit up SXSW in 2010 alongside a few more familiar acts like Japanther and A Place To Bury Strangers . With another trip to Austin this week, fans will have another chance to witness one of shoegaze's best lesser-known acts. Wednesday, March 13, the band will be performing at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar at 4 p.m. The next day, [...]
