No offense to DEBASER's longtime home skillet Good Brains , who rocked the house recently, but El Corazon is pretty much a dump with a grumpy staff and I hope Mono in VCF, Sian Alice Group, and A Place to Bury Strangers use their cozmic powers in unison to splinter all of its walls and melt the faces off its bouncers.
I opted for the A Place to Bury Strangers show over Cadence Weapon/Woodhands last night. I've already seen the latter, but the Biltmore is also way closer to my house. Anyhow, I was intrigued by the headliners after listening to a couple of songs on their Myspace. And, true to my expectations, they came out, cranked up their amps and almost blew my head off with a wall of distortion and feedback... but then they did the same thing for another five songs and the charm diminished as they went. You can buy up all of [...]

(Photo by Greg Perez) If you've read Between Love & Like for awhile, you know that the whole Silver Lake, CA music scene and I fell deeply in love at SXSW last year via these guys . One group that has been reigned at the helm of that scene, regardless of what the author of a snotty review has to say is Silversun Pickups . (By the way Mr. Cohen, you could use an editor in addition to a fact checker as I think the word is flagship not [...]
Monolith Music Festival at Denver's Red Rock's Amphitheatre was unbeatable with its gorgeous scenery and great line up. Below you will find a continuation of Saturday's festivities on Sept. 13. Be sure to come back and check out what I thought of the following day and if you missed it, here is what I thought [...]

amazing baby a place to bury strangers the floor got packed for amazing baby , who were second to play. a&r folks were just salivating watching them play. i must admit, i see the appeal. they've got some really catchy songs but the live show hasn't quite convinced me. and can they make a full length follow up to the handful of catchy songs they've got? seems like there's a long list of labels [...]

Or maybe there's no content here. I don't know. This is going to be a little image heavy, so to reduce that a bit, here's a link to the album containing all the photos I took yesterday. Also, all of the pictures that I have posted here can be enlarged by clicking them. You may find you need to click some of the pictures, as you may notice a resemblance between the image in the picture and someone's ass. Fear not, this is most likely one of the members of Vampire Weekend and clicking the photo will solve [...]
Ok, I'm bone tired but wanted to give you a glimpse of the Monolith Festival : 1. I took about 987685675675 pictures. I think I really like taking pictures. 2. If you ever come to Red Rocks, that whole mile above sea level thing really takes the wind out of you (literally) when walking anywhere uphill. That's no bull. 3. I met and became friendly with a consortium of cool fellow music writers like this guy , these folks , this gal , and this guy [...]

In the last couple of years Cedar Rapids has had some disappointments when it comes to national touring acts wanting to stop by our fair city. Acts that had planned stops but backed out or had changes included Black Eyed Peas, Willie Nelson (this year anyway, he did stop by with Dylan a couple of years ago), and Kid Rock to name a few that I was paying attention to. Unfortunately, the US Cellular Cente r- formerly the Five Seasons Center- is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth when it comes to mid-sized arenas. In some cases acts can't perform there [...]

As I walked into Emo's I heard The Boxing Lesson 's singer say "Alright guys, this is going to be our last show with this drummer, because he's going to jail." I chuckled to myself, because he was joking...right? They proceeded to play a solid set of psychedelic rock. The audience was led by a few enthusiasts in the front row swaying and contorting with the deep drones. At the end of their songs, everyone seemed satisfied, even their drummer, who actually was on his way to jail (for growing pot). What a shame. These guys know how to [...]

Nine Inch Nails, A Place To Bury Strangers American Airlines Center August 18, 2008 Better than: Watching all three Matrix movies on blu-ray. Trent Reznor and...The Pips? (Derrick Miller) More of a multimedia event than a concert, the performance last night of Trent Reznor and his latest incarnation of Nine Inch Nails was nothing short of breathtaking. Packed with enough emotional anguish and visual dynamics to fuel a season of prime time television dramas, [...]

this is what i'm bringing T hey were just here last Friday, but if you're like me you don't have the time or money to worry about showing up early for a Trent Reznor egofest in hopes of hearing them live with diminished sound and lights. Tonight, A Place To Bury Strangers makes their third OKC metro appearance in the last six months. This go 'round they'll be at the Opolis with opening act, [...]

We all love reading interviews with our favorite bands, and the interviews usually cover a lot of the same stuff, how the band got started, new album details, etc., etc., etc. Coming into contact with quite a few artists on a regular basis, I figured I could prepare a short set of short answer questions that I could deliver without having to go into a lengthy sit session of talking and editing. This is the third in what I hope to be a long series of "Get To Know In 73 and any suggestions or recommendations on questions that you [...]

People in the US got a taste of A Place To Bury Strangers when the band released their debut album last year, now UK fans will get a taste as well. The Brooklyn band is set to release their self-titled debut album in the UK on November 2nd. The album will feature the same tracks as the US version however the songs are remastered. The UK version is also set to include a few new songs not available on the US album. The first single off the album, ' I Know I'll See You ', will be released [...]
