A Sunny Day In Glasgow released their second album 'Ashes Grammer' stateside yesterday (the 28th in Europe but quite what that means in an internet savvy world is open to question) and fans of their rampant eclectic montages rejoiced. The Philadelphia act push the experimental envelope to breaking point and have already produced a debut in 'Scribble Mural Comic Journal' that slowly unveiled a box of exotic treats that 2 years on still flabbergast. Indications are that its follow up is just as dark and mysterious so can you please get back to me at the backend of the year [...]

A Sunny Day in Glasgow is looking for a new singer, here is the note from the band: "Hi Everyone, As you may know we have a new album coming out this month. We are planning to go on tour for a short while later this Autumn and then for a LONG while next year, all over the world. But before we do, we need another singer to fill things out and make us sound awesome. Specifically, we are looking for a female soprano who is up for an adventure (if you are not [...]

I'll go on record as being a huge fan of the shoegaze/dream pop genre of music. There's just something about those washed out guitars and hazy vocals that just suck me in and put me into an almost trance-like state that just feels powerful. That's the sort of mental headspace I like to be in from time to time, and shoegaze/dream pop compliments it perfectly. Naturally then, when I hear about an interesting or notable shoegaze/dream pop album, it generally behooves me to check it out. A Sunny Day in Glasgow are now on their second album, which is out [...]
A Sunny Day in Glasgow (, [...]
Shoegaze splintered into several different directions after its early-'90s heyday: Slowdive went ambient, Chapterhouse went dance, and bands like Seefeel always straddled the line between dream pop and experimental electronic. Most bands went belly up. At the time, it seemed like these acts were just desperate to hop aboard any trend that would help them [...]

Everything about A Sunny Day in Glasgow —from their too-long name to artsy song titles like "Panic Attacks Are What Make Me 'Me'"—seems designed to be a little bit inaccessible. Though they're often compared to fellow shoegaze-influenced, female-fronted bands like Asobi Seksu and Mahogany, their music tends to push the experimental boundaries further than either one, veering away from dream-pop and more into noise and abstraction. I liked their 2007 album Scribble Mural Comic Journal, but I found it hard to listen to from beginning to end: The songs were just too claustrophobic, packed full [...]

A Sunny Day In Glasgow present a problem to me. I can not decide which is more beautiful. The voices of the Daniels sisters or the music they are singing over. Honestly it is a pretty great problem to have. "Failure," a song off of their new 22 song LP, shows why this question is so hard to answer. Robin and Lauren have wonderful, soothing vocals but even when they go away the music stays equally as beautiful. Download "Failure" and check out their new LP Ashes Grammar to hear more of this incredible [...]

I just took a listen to a few songs off the new Sunny Day In Glasgow album, and I'm totally into the whole thing. I had never really heard of them to be honest, but I picked it up after reading about them on the ISO50 blog, which is graphic designer Scott Hansen's blog/portfolio/store (who actually makes his own music too under the name Tycho , and it's dope too). We even posted on a another writer for their site named Alex Cornell a while back. But, that's not what we [...]

A Sunny Day In Glasgow - "Passionate Introverts (Dinosaurs)" A week back I was playing this game of coming up with song titles which could essentially sum up the major theme of an artist's body of work, and I think that A Sunny Day In Glasgow ranks among the artists who have already done that for themselves. (See also: Andrew W.K. with "Party Hard," Daft Punk with "Robot Rock" and/or "Digital Love," and Sonic Youth with the album title Experimental Jet Set Trash and No Star. ) If you ignore the "(Dinosaurs)" part of [...]

Already expressing eager anticipation for A Sunny Day In Glasgow's Ashes Grammar LP, the folks at Stereogum premiered a new single late last week. "Failure" is hazy, shimmering, and an every bit of amazing pop gem that stands tall on their new LP. Actually, upon my visit to the Mis Ojos lair, it would appear that AG was issued for download on iTunes just yesterday and the thing is massive. 22 tracks at over an hour of play will do more than keep your senses busy. Good news, [...]

We're tired of the achingly sincere amateurs and questionable remixes . Where's an indie contemporary's premature spin on the ninth best song of the decade? Some of us have blogs to blog! Enter "Young Folks"/ex-Concretes singer Victoria Bergsman aka Taken By Trees. Her terrific, foreign born East Of Eden includes "My Boys," a jaunty and vaguely tropical take on Merriweather 's celebrated single that messes around with gender roles. Everyone needs abode slabs. [ download ] A Sunny Day in Glasgow made waves with their 2007 debut record, the critically lauded Scribble Mural Comic Journal , and the Philadelphia-based act is now preparing to release their second effort, Ashes Grammar . To be released on September 15th, the album finds the band on slightly different terrain. For starters, there is the obvious pressure of following up such an unanticipated bit of success. However, A Sunny Day in Glasgow has also seen their band augmented by new vocalists as well [...]

Maybe you noticed, maybe you didn't but there was no mixtape last week. Can't exactly tell you why, but all you need to know is that this week is completely different than last. Guess it's a good thing that this particular wrap up will include tracks from more than one week, right? Starts off fast and hard like punch in the face and ends up soft and smooth while the swelling subsides. Birthday Suits - It's About Time Lovvers- Ocd Go Go Girls Black Math - Part of [...]

via So it's the second run-out for our podcast after the switch from weekly to monthly, allowing The Mix Tape to swim deeper into the sea of incredible music around right now... We have some real gems in the bag with massive grind-beats from Californian Noise-Rock group HEALTH (album 'Get Color' released Sep 7 UK), as well as the first taste of Atlas Sound on 'Walkabout' with vocals from Animal Collective's Panda Bear. There are huge remixes of Neon Gold's Wolf Gang, Manchester band Delphic and Amanda Blank from the likes of [...]

It's been a while, since we're in the slow, "no one releases anything in the summer" part of the year, but there are finally some really good tracks from forthcoming fall albums trickling into the indie rock blogosphere. God, I hate that word. But I do love this music. Enjoy. New Mountain Goats -- from The Life of the World To Come , which has to be John Darnielle's what -- 800th -- album? I'm not real sure, but I know they're all real good. The [...]
