L'EP Love Songs: Part One [...]

But sometimes the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences gets it really wrong. Consider this year when the unknown (and untalented) keytar-wielding Al Walser somehow landed [...]

I remember the first time I picked up this record and thought, ‘Some fine sisters? Who sing and play guitar too?! Uhh, hell yeah!!’ A Taste of Honey ’ s self-entitled album was released in 1978 on Capitol Records and is a rare gem of musical styles, ranging from their smash disco hit “ Boogie Oogie Oogie ” to soulful grooves like “ If We Loved .” Produced by The Mizell Brothers , A Taste of Honey wrote songs for first encounters, for those in lust, and simply for the making of love. Band [...]
Today is Herb's 77th birthday.

It's been a while since we've posted up some good disco and boogie around here, and there's nobody better suited to help us make up for that than the excellent Disco Tech . Week after week, this guy launches finely honed missiles of pure disco goodness. There's more good stuff than I could possibly post, so I've picked out a few gems for you--but you'll definitely want to cruise over to his Soundcloud page to get the whole buffet. I'm a Wonderful Thing (Disco Tech edit) My [...]

A Taste of Honey originated this gem (originally called "Boogie Oogie Oogie") back in 1978, but these cats by the names of Richard Dorfmeister and Madrid De Los Austrias revamped it a couple years back, making it awesome for the 20th century. Vibes. Dorfmeister & MDA - Boogie No More Kyle S

I had no idea what to expect when I began listening to Funeral Party 's Bootleg EP. What I got was a disco influenced rock extravaganza. Or at least as much of an extravaganza a 3 song EP can be. The opening track, "Carwars" is irresistible, and you can nearly hear the '70s girl band A Taste of Honey sing "Boogie Oogie Oogie" over the driving drum work. But instead of smooth, black girl vocals, we're treated to the wrenching half-sing half-scream vocals of singer Chad Elliott [...]

So, I'm really looking forward to going to see Morrissey in Ann Arbor at the end of March here... which is something I didn't think I'd see after retirement rumors and "last American shows" being mentioned last tour. I'll never get to see The Smiths, but you know, who cares? I mean Morrissey is still performing and he still does Smiths songs! Now having talked Moz up... I doubt he'll play this one (but he should). I think that "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" , by The Smiths [...]

Album: The Skills Dat Pay The Bills (4th & Broadway/ Island; 1992) Songwriters: Positive K R&B Peak Position: #10 " Well look I'll treat you good/ My man treats me better / I talk sweet on the phone/ My man writes love letters..." Two years after storming discos worldwide with the wallflower-targeting bass riff monster "Boogie Oogie Oogie" , A Taste of Honey were back in the middle of the dance floor with the equally groove-tastic "Rescue Me". While the group had [...]
Friday, June 13, 2008 The problem with posting songs in advance (even two of them) is that there is no way to be sure what any given day will hold and, therefore, whatever song(s) I chose in advance will almost always turn out to be wrong for the day. "Bouncing Off Clouds" fits our family's frantic Friday of travel. A day of rushing, waiting to rush, and rushing some more, through airports, on taxis, to resorts. Fast, fast, fast. And all of this fastness culminated in my travel purse [...]

Her Favourite Tipple Davy H over at The Ghost of Electricity had a recent post which named his wifes favourite Saturday night record. I was going to name a track in a comment about what I suspected Mrs Vicar might suggest as her own favourite. However, I thought it might be better to ask her first ........ Well, I got the understandable 'on the fence' reply about changing tastes and mood etc, but I managed to whittle away until I got the following mixed [...]
