Nächste Woche gastiert das Klassik-affine Ambient-Projekt A Winged Victory For The Sullen in der Schweiz. Und wird den Konzertgänger an selten schöne Orte geleiten. Wir verlosen Freitickets ab Chur. Man braucht über Ostern nicht zu verreisen und im Stau zu stecken. Kann sich indessen von A Winged Victory For The Sullen abholen lassen.

Særligt A Winged Victory For The Sullen , Ólafur Arnalds , Nils Frahm og snart Peter Broderick.

The scarcely illumined signpost cowering slenderly in January gloom before Cecil Sharp House reads: 'The English Folk Dance And Song Society'. And while the lavish compositional work of Adam Wiltzie's latest (and questionably greatest) project, A Winged Victory For The Sullen shan't provide any such sort of frivolous gaiety, there's a fair amount of aerobic exercise taking place down in the basement. Rigorous folk dancing betides below to the soundtrack of the excessively jaunty violins that emanate from within, the sort of scene typically set in dubiously sinister TV-only period drama and from the outside looking in, the [...]
There was so much really great music that I heard this year, to the point that putting together these lists was quite difficult and time-consuming. But even so, there are still a lot more albums out there that were recommended to me by others that I simply never got the chance to hear, as well as some that I felt needed more listens for me to fully absorb them, so they sadly won't be showing up on here (Danny Brown, Julianna Barwick, The Weeknd, Fucked Up, PJ Harvey, Main Attrakionz, Tune-yards, Yuck…I could go on and on). I'll [...]

Saturday, day three of Le Guess Who? provides probably its most diverse as we run from A (Winged Victory For The Sullen) to Z(omby). Returning to Ekko for the tearjerkingly stunning A Winged Victory For The Sullen , Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O'Halloran exhume "seven songs about dead people and broken hearts." A tripartite Amsterdam ensemble occupy stage-centre, the impetus on the neoclassical nature of the duo's lavish compositional mastery. We soon sit. Not in protest, but in order that we may fully revel in understated grandeur, in deferential appreciation. For every [...]
New episode from the always excellent The Avant/Garde Diaries feat Montgomery Knott and a inspiring Adam Wiltzie that talks about his new project A Winged Victory For the Sullen. Watch | Bending Time

It's been a while, hasn't it? Rather than trying to catch up on every single release that I missed (I imagine that would take another while), I decided to share the releases that have spent the most time in my headphones over the past months. There is no rhyme or reason to my choices here, and the only common denominator is that all of them are absolutely beautiful pieces of music, regardless of whether they commit to techno or ambient. Andy Stott - We Stay Together (Modern Love) [...]

► It promises to feel like a night at the movies at the Satellite, where A Winged Victory for the Sullen performs. It's a collaboration pairing Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie ( Stars of the Lid ) and pianist Dustin O'Halloran (once upon a time of the fine L.A. duo Devics ), and their ambient tunes will be abetted by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble and video projections Christina Vantzou. ► Kiev continues its residency at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica with a good lineup that includes Monte Mar, the New Limb and Facts on [...]

Slow off the mark, as ever, but finally registered the new Benoit Pioulard EP, Plays Thelma (on Desire Path ), via the lulling, blurrily ruminative Calder (today's Track of the Day, for what that's worth). Blurb: " Thelma is best described as a place existing in between—a lake within a haze. Against its concave mirror, the sonic territory of Benoît Honoré Pioulard—documented across three acclaimed [...]

(Erased Tapes / Kranky, 2011) I've been neglecting posts on Forest Gospel for a little bit, for a variety of reasons which equate, in general, to busyness. But in addition, some sense of exhaustion and, being in a wholly new and largely unfamiliar place, depression. Life doing what life is best at: overwhelming. Not that it has been all bad, but certainly difficult. So I can feel for, in some sense, the emotional weight of what is happening on A Winged Victory for the Sullen . Not that my troubles compare in [...]

Like so many days at the time, it was another early day from school to visit their uncle in hospital. All three of them felt overgrown and too close together in the back seat of the car as it traveled towards Donegal, their elbows and body scents embarrassing them in an unspoken teenage way. As the car entered Bundoran, the precipitation was coming down in sheets, windows wriggling with rain that beat funereally on the roof. They pulled up on a pier. Their mother smoked with the window up because of the weather outside. The inside of car was thick [...]

Absolutely amazing wisps of old souls and past lives float up from the ground like mists amongst the songs of A Winged Victory for the Sullen. Stars of the Lid member Adam Wiltzie and composer Dustin O'Halloran released their self-titled project debut last month, and the teary-eyed reactions are slowly drifting forward. A Winged Victory [...]
