I've been really slacking on posting lately, I've just been busy here cleaning, organizing, and other things. Getting to the end of the projects I set out, so hopefully soon things should pick back up. Coming this week will be mostly live shows I've recorded the past couple months, including Ron Sexsmith and Astronautalis. I will also be posting reviews of the new Brett Dennen and Atmosphere albums shortly. Hope everyone's Easter was well and you enjoyed your time with family, friends or whatever you decided to do to celebrate. The Mercy Wheel- A.A. [...]

I know it's been a couple weeks since I've written a post, but that's about to change. Truth is, a couple friends and I, including Nab, spent our reading week oversees in Europe. Though I won't bore you with the details of the trip, which was incredible, I will tell you that my time overseas lend itself to the discovery and rediscovery of a lot of music. One of the artists I rediscovered was A.A Bondy, an American folk singer-song writer, born and raised in Birmingham Alabama. For those of you aren't familiar with Bondy's history or the [...]
A.A. Bondy - Black Rain, Black Rain Don't fall on me, can't you see i'm doing my best?

Not breaking news, really. But a really great album that ought to be heard. I can't exactly remember when I first heard of A.A. Bondy . It might've been on Friday Night Lights or possibly through a friend via Facebook, but in either case I do remember be utterly mesmerized by his sound. The strange thing about this hold he has on the listener (in this case, me) and the way he's able to captivate, is that he doesn't possess any of the tools that would immediately wow [...]
i probably posted these before, but that doesnt concern me cause me thinks mr bondy's 09 release when the devils loose needs some revisiting, which i did today. after a few listens i think its actually better than i initially thought. granted it was still number 8 or 9 on my list that year, but it probably couldve been higher. here's a few videos from his hear ya session from that year.

Auguste Arthur Bondy is a master of raw acoustic stripped-down folk. Case in point.

There are few things that Birmingham, Alabama and Palenville, New York (think Catskill Mts.) have in common; singer/songwriter AA Bondy is one of those things. Although he started his music career as lead singer of the grunge rock band, Verbena, he's been going solo as of 2003, playing his unique brand of folk rock all across America. His music combines the raw soul of the south with the mellowed chill of the north to create a pleasantly refined sound fit for people anywhere. It was even favorable enough to find its way onto multiple cable television shows such [...]
This session with AA Bondy captures a different sound than on his records; a sound completely void of a band, relying solely on heightened acoustic guitar picking, harmonica melodies, and old time, folksy vocals. Viewers also get to hear his speaking voice which is surprising deep and powerful considering his singing range. At heart, AA Bondy is a story teller clearly influenced by his environment, but his best of both worlds style keeps him from beings simply another folk singer.
To get ready for the All Hallow's weekend here's a playlist of what we think are genuinely creepy songs. With only a few exceptions, they're mostly low-key acoustic songs, the kind you might hear around a campfire, somewhere far out in the woods. Only a couple deal with "monsters" per say (one mummy and one vampire, respectively), the rest are centered around the real-life kind of monsters - bloodthirsty sociopaths on hellish road-trips, spurned-lovers who become violently unhinged, and nightmarish butchers who come for your children in the night. A lot of the tunes are pretty, but if you listen [...]

Playing at the Phoenix Concert Theater is a definitive stepping stone towards marking an act's "arrival" on the map in Toronto. The familiar map of an indie band's rise is often through seeing someone headline at Lee's and graduate to the Phoenix, or open at one and headline at the other is a path most Toronto-based concert-goers will be familiar with. On the whole, the Phoenix isn't a terrible venue; it's larger for one, and well, that's about it. I'll echo the sentiments of most everyone else I know by saying it's nice to see good bands graduate to larger [...]

The Walkmen: photo by Michael Ligon The various spectrums of rock n' roll were on display this past Saturday night with a trio of acts that were bound to please everyone. It would only take one look at the MySpace URL of first opener Blood Feathers to guess what they specialized in. The Philly outfit were indeed a rock n' roll band of the highest degree, pumping out hard-rocking, r n' b, rockabilly-tinged numbers. Taking a reverse take on The Ramones whose members each took on Ramone as their last [...]
Two Gallants have not been very active since we last checked. An EP, The Scenery of Farewell, and their self-titled album were both released in 2007, and they remain the band's latest material. This is a bit odd considering Adam Haworth Stephens and Tyson Vogel, the two longtime friends that comprise the duo, churned out [...]
