Scoring a Grammy nod doesn’t necessarily make a song good, although it seems like the biggest music award of them all should help dictate which tracks will become pop classics. Alas, as it turns out, a lot of zeitgeist-y hits from the past few decades years didn’t win a statue on Grammy night, even though a few did score nominations. It might seem weird that “Umbrella” didn’t sweep all the record categories and No Doubt's "Don't Speak" wasn't lauded at all. But those, of course, aren't the only major pop hits lacking a statue. We rounded [...]
The flavour of the past couple of years has undoubtedly been taking an Aaliyah record and putting your own spin on it. From Danny Daze over in San Francisco crafting a summer anthem out of One In A Million or Redlight giving Try Again an 808 warehouse make over under his Animal Youth pseudonym; and Katy [...]

There are a lot of brilliant R&B remixes out there of classic tracks. This playlist includes some of my favorites from the more recent past, mostly the last month. We'll start with some soulful chill electronic, and then pick up the pace with some experimental hip-hop, house and trap. There's not much else to say - the 90s and these producers speak for themselves. So let's sit back and kick it to best of 90s female R&B remixed, including TLC, Brandy, Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige, SWV, Janet Jackson and Aaliyah! [...]

I felt like some Aaliyah today and this remix is does a lot of justice. Throwing you all a bomb EMPT classic on this beautiful Super Bowl Sunday, let the game begin! Originally posted June 29th, 2011 ________ First of all, this cover is absolute fire. Aaliyahs Are You That Somebody is one of the most stylish R&B tracks you'll ever hear. It was so ahead of it's time for 1998 that only in the last 3 or 4 years has contemporary R&B really surpassed it's [...]

![[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #22](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4745594_lg.jpg)
When trying to think of a prelude for this week's edition of the Chill Dojo, emotion was the key word that stuck in mind. Emotion is everything in music, from laid-back slices of serenity to powerful trance-inducing melodies and vocals. For this playlist we'll have you riding both ends of the spectrum and everything in between, so sit back and enjoy. We kick things off on a bright and joyful note with this charming feel-good rework of the popular Bondax tune courtesy of UK beatmakers Snakehips . It's such a fun, [...]

katy b x jessie ware x geeneus - aaliyah though we highlighted katy b's awesome free danger ep last month , this duet with the awesome jessie ware has emerged as favorite (even getting playlisted on the influential bbc radio 1). at once playing tribute to the late aaliyah, yet all the while singing 'please don't take my man' over a solid house groove, this hypnotic track is on serious repeat these days! http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
The late Aaliyah's birthday just passed on January 16, and to honor the R&B icon, Brooklyn-via-New Hampshire producer E-603 has crafted a sleek remix of the pop princess's Grammy-winning "Are You That Somebody", originally released in 1998 for the Dr. Doolittle soundtrack with writing and production from Timbaland and Static Major. We've been seeing... The post Aaliyah - "Are You That Somebody" (E-603 Remix) appeared first on Noise Collective .

Wouldn't you know it, right after Aaliyah's birthday, we're blessed with some unreleased music from the superstar. Not sure where this is hailing from, or why it hadn't come out before, but I'm just glad it's finally out. If she had be fortunate enough to continue her career, Aaliyah would still be atop the music world. Follow @OceanPdestrians
Buzz of Aaliyah 's posthumous album was high early in 2012, but things got very confusing fast. It was like, "Drake's producing, no he's not, yes he is, Timbaland, Drake and Timbaland, something something, Missy Elliot, no, yes, Drake, 40, Timbaland, no, maybe, no. Drake. Drake. Drake." Things settled after people gave up on trying to figure it all out, and now we have this. To further the confusion, there are no real details. Punch Bowl Blog says the song leaked years ago but this is apparently a new version with updated production and vocals. [...]

Had she not tragically died, Aaliyah would have turned 34 two days ago (Jan. 16). With that in mind, it's only fitting that a "new" track from the gone-too-soon songstress has appeared online. Punch Bowl Blog notes that this cut, "Quit Hatin'", had leaked in the past, but it now has some updated production and additional vocals. Could this be from that posthumous album Drake is working on? Or is this just a hoax? Listen below and let us know.

Wednesday (January 16) of this week would have marked Aaliyah 's 34th birthday — and while there haven't been any recent updates on the status of Aaliyah's posthumous record , executive-produced by Drake and set for a release on Blackground Records, her birthday did deliver an unexpected gift from the fallen R&B icon: A new leak titled "Quit Hatin'," which is a dreamy, swirling ballad with a wobbly backbeat. The track had leaked previously in altered form; this new version has more vocals and an additional verse, and it's [...]

It's pretty early here in New York. I've been in and out of sleep, and for whatever reason I can't seem to fall into my sleep space. These are the kind of nights I hate to love. I know sleep is important, but there's just something so liberating about being the only one awake in your apartment- let alone the city that supposedly never sleeps (all my friends are dreaming judging by the lack of little green dots next to my Facebook buddy list and the zero text message responses). I'm not complaining, though. The Empire State Building has turned off its [...]

It's Throwback Thursday again and since it was her birthday yesterday, we're dedicating it to Aaliyah- she would have been 34. Aaliyah was in a really good place in her career when she died at just 22, it's a shame that it was only the beginning. Anyway, I've picked one of my top songs from [...] The post Throwback Thursday appeared first on Noise Collective .

![Gianni Lee & Mike Blud – LongLiveA$AP Samples [Potholes Mixtape Premiere]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4724746_lg.jpg)
Gianni Lee and Mike Blud are carving out a niche for themselves providing mixtapes of samples used on some of the biggest hip-hop albums. Their profile continues to rise in the New Year as they have taken on A$AP Rocky's full-length debut . The mixtape kicks off with an original mix from Lee, who then moves through the tracks that helped shape the sonic landscape of LongLiveA$AP . These include classics like Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya", Frou Frou favorite "Psychobabble", and more. Perhaps most fitting is the fact we're hearing Aaliyah's "Can I Come Over" on here; [...]

I'm all up for remixes of classic songs like this, especially if they're freakin' great. MOTI was nice enough to send over their remix of this Aaliyah jam from 1998 that was Grammy nominated. MOTI is new to our blog but is comprised of the producers Durtysneakz and Slopes . If you like what you hear, be sure to follow them in the twittersphere and be sure to download their recent EP Navigation off of their soundcloud page. Definitely more to [...]
