March Madness just ended and all of you bracketologists out there are probably pretty sad you'll have to until next year to get your bracketology on, but don't fret! Back for a second year by popular demand, in a move that is sure to establish itself as a Portland institution - it's Rigsketball ! If you're late to the game, Rigsketball is halfcourt, 3v3 basketball played on a regulation hoop attached to the back of a van, just about anywhere the cops won't bust the party. However, when played in a bracket-style tournament with 32 of Portland's most ballin' [...]
Sister Crayon ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth As scaled down version of MusicFest NW that felt just the right size for Boise, happening over the course of four days in late March Treefort Music Fest boasts the same proximity advantage as SXSW with all of its venues being entirely walkable. In fact all the stages were [...]
Check out Portland based Aan's track "Haunted, Million Ways" off of their self titled 7" release. You can download this track via this link on Soundcloud…there are also several more tracks there for you to peruse and add to your collection!

Back in April MOKB presented you with the Premiere of the 7" release Somewhere's Sunshine by the experimental-pop trio Aan . Today we have the B-side of that single Haunted, Million Ways to share in conjunction with announcing their brief but sure to be exciting Pacific Northwest tour. Some things with Aan's music you can count on; playful time signatures, Bud Wilson's snarling yelp, and to expect the unexpected. Haunted, Million Ways delivers on all three of these promises and then some. These Portland-based avant-garde [...]
Although Amor Ad Nauseum has been around in one form or another since 2006, what once was Bud Wilson's bedroom project got its bearings in 2008, when the Portland-via-Eugene, Oregon songwriter added two more musicians to his band. With accompaniment, Wilson's brainchild manifested into multi-faceted instrumentation drenched in reverb, uniting folk guitar plucking and warbling [...]

By now you've heard about how post-this, uber-that, and pre-apocalyptically radical the Los Angeles collective Odd Future is. Or maybe your little sis came home with ringleader Tyler the Creator's tag tatted on her teenage ta-ta's. Critics adore them: despite having only inked a distribution deal last week (with RED/Sony), Odd Future — or, formally, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) — has been the object of writerly erections for about eight months now. Meanwhile, female fans cry at the sight of them, and not just because of Tyler's promise [...]

The premiere parade for new bands continues as we release the title song Somewhere's Sunshine from Aan' s upcoming, unreleased 7" of the same name. Both this experimental-pop band and avant-garde track are the brain-child of Portland, Oregon, singer-songwriter Bud Wilson. With a fat-bottomed bass anchoring noodling synths, strummy melodies and sing-song-y vocals yowling in the upper reaches of Antony Hegarty and Jeff Buckley territory, Aan's Somewhere's Sunshine feels more like a meandering, Warholian film-short than a pop song. Just when you think it might break into a full-blown disco funk like [...]

The last leg of The Artistery is quickly coming 'round, and it's final week includes a starstruck lineup of Portland's favourites ( Point Juncture WA , Rob Walmart , Hive Dwellers , etc), and this Saturday brings a lineup of perfect proportions. Aan will be joining Campfire OK and Kelli Schaeffer (her Amigo/Amiga record release!) March 5th . Aan puts on a live show that you can't miss, and with Kelli Schaeffer's incendiary siren call, it's a pretty obvious call as to where [...]

Break out the wool cravats and stockings, kids, and dust the mothballs off of your very best, Tender Loving Empire is rolling in the season with their 1st Annual Winter Formal this Thursday at The Woods , featuring the music of Pancake Breakfast , Ritchie Young & the Loch Lomond Chamber Orchestra, and AAN. The festivities also double as the release party for the new Friends and Friends of Friends, Vol. III, which as in the past features musical nuggets local and otherwise spread over two discs (including names like Typhoon, Nick [...]

I decided to write this review based on the strength of the single "Wet and Dripping" from promising Pacific Northwesterners Aan (pronounced "on"). After 90 seconds of sparse pitch singing, light guitar arpeggios, electronic ambience and slight gradual increases in tempo, all delicate and floaty, W&D punches you in the face with a howling, thumping [...]

Portland has no shortage of amazing experimental indie rock bands, and on Jan. 30, three of the best local groups came together at the Doug Fir Lounge for some seriously unforgettable and riveting music. Hip, danceable, and never lacking in ingenuity, these three bands put on one hell of a show and managed to look good all the while. Aan started off the show with music that seemed perfectly tailored for a basement venue. Their lush, dreamy blend of indie rock and freak folk is enticing and ethereal. Combining melodic instrumentation with [...]
"I used to run label called Outa for a couple of years 2004-2006. Then i had enough for many reasons. After a short break i tried to get back in busines again, releasing this compilation. It maybe sold 5 copies or so. The era of cd-r was over? I dont know why people were not so into Finnish Experimental music anymore. I still think that this compilation sounds really good. And i think many more people than just those five who bought it, can get alot out of these great songs. Ikuisuus " Six song compilation [...]

I was just talking to a friend about the movie Dude, Where's My Car? yesterday. In attempting to persuade them to watch the Ashton Kutcher/Seann William Scott opus, I mentioned how it unexpectedly turns into a sci-fi movie, inferring that that twist is reason enough to catapult it into must-view status. "Girls of Spring," a willowy tune by Aan, is a similar work, with its own unexpected sci-fi connection. Though I wouldn't have known it without talking to Bud Wilson, the man behind Aan's delicate strings and layered, octave-jumping vocals. Below we chat about the sci-fi [...]
