Filed under: News , R.I.P. Aaron Schroeder, a music publisher, producer and prolific songwriter with more than 2,000 writing credits to his name, died at his home, the Lillian Booth Actors' Home, in Englewood, N.J. on Dec. 2. He was 83. The cause was complications from a form of dementia, according to Dale Olson, his publicist. Among Schroeder's most well-known songwriting credits is Elvis Presley 's 1960 hit, 'It's Now or Never,' a song whose melody was derived from a Neapolitan standard 'O Sole Mio.' Presley expressed interest in the song [...]
You know it never occurred to me that Meursault's band name would prove so tricky to spell, but first the BBC and now Mojo magazine have managed to spell it incorrectly, and both in different ways. When they were played on Gideon Coe last week they were on the track listing as Meuersault, and now their brilliant review in this month's Mojo starts with them being referred to as Mersault. God knows how that's going to affect any of our potential sales, but I hope we don't have too many people give on looking for a band that [...]

I've really been enjoying the mellowed out energy of Reed KD lately. It's got a quiet spirit to it that has just been taking me for a ride. Imagine the honey harmonizing of Simon and Garfunkel , take Garfunkel out of the picture and add a second Simon, spice it up with some bluegrass instrumentation such as accordion and harmonica (think Dylan here), and the result is an indie-folk medley which reminds me of another singer I've been listening to for a few years now named Aaron Schroeder and his earlier work (read about him [...]

Dear Aaron Schroeder, I'm sorry. You sent me an e-mail almost a month ago, and I filed it as "to post" but never got around to posting it. I didn't even send you a little thank you e-mail for the nice message and music you sent me. I'm horrible and, again, I'm sorry. Dear Three Pints readers, I'm sorry. You guys come here expecting to hear some fresh, awesome music and I hoarded Aaron Schroeder for nearly a month. He writes great indie-pop, and compares his style to Billy Bragg, The New Pornographers, and [...]

It takes alot to get me out to a show on a Sunday night but I've been there with Big D since high school and since I missed them on their last tour I figured I'd head out to see their show at the Knitting Factory. The A.K.As were definitely the standout opening act. They played simple punk rock with an amazing amount of energy. Although the band is from Philly they [...]

Congrats to Sam, Dan, and Dave for being the lucky three winners of the Dylan contest I've been running for the last week. All three of them are going to be the proud owners of a Dylan poster and Dylan CD (single disc edition) from his latest release. Extra Congrats to Dave for being the Super-Duper Grand prize winner and also being the extra lucky owner of a Dylan leather iPod case. If you don't win, head here for the single disc edition , here for the 3-disc collection , and [...]

A while ago, I had the priviledge to interview pop folkist Aaron Schroeder on his new album, " Black & Gold ". Due to the hectic nature of moving back to the dorms and adjusting back to the chaos of college life, it took me an unforgivable amount of time to transcribe it, but here it is in all its glory: ------------------------------ ---------------------- The Milk [...]
(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...

Well this a post I wanted to put up longer ago (but haven't mostly because I wanted to do it justice but partly because I've had other things to do) because I suspect quite a lot of blogs would have included this excellent album a while ago Aaron Scroeder 's second album 'Black & Gold' is perhaps in overtly record company speak an absolute gem, not so much in terms of that theres a couple of great tracks which you can 'cherry-pick' to download sense (I mean sometimes I think almost 76% of 'great albums' come [...]

I am now happily listening to new fave Aaron Schroeder . I'm really liking his latest album, Black & Gold - and I didn't think I would. It's a very pop-friendly bob-your-head kind of album. Schroeder compares himself to acts like Belle & Sebastian, Billy Bragg, and the New Pornographers. Lots of guests appear on his new album from Ben Barnett of Kind of Like Spitting to Justin Meldal-Johnsen of Beck/Air. A very promising singer-songwriter. I'm sure I will hear more of him in the future. Take a listen for yourselves. [...]

Here is this week's edition of The Sunday Shuffle. Ten tracks randomly chosen as it's always been. Not much else to say, so i'll let the songs do all the talking. "Grass" | Animal Collective :: More MP3s :: "Burning" | The Whitest Boy Alive :: More MP3s :: "What We Don't Know" | Aaron Schroeder :: More MP3s :: [...]
This sunny little indie-pop gem came to me completely and utterly out of the blue. Compared to Billy Bragg and Belle & Sebastian, what I hear more than anything else is Brendan Benson, although with some of the power take out of the pop and hugely satisfying sense of gentle contemplation filling the gaps. This [...]

We just ran a review of Aaron Schroeder's new record, Black & Gold . Despite not being a Steeler's tribute album, we did like the mix of pop and country. We had the chance to ask Aaron a few quick questions. Enjoy. HH:: The new record, is pretty polished and diverse for an DIY release. Did you do most of the work yourself? AS:: Oh no - I wish I could steal those liner notes for myself but really so much of the album is the band's doing. I [...]

Aaron Schroeder's new release Black & Gold packs an indie-pop punch that nearly knocked my lights out (or maybe that was Con Edison ?) Handclapping and horns. Keyboards and catchy hooks. What more could I possibly ask for? The album has a wonderfully full sound with a sort of New Pornographers style of instrumentation and energetic vocals. I can't recommend Black & Gold highly enough, I've only had it for the past couple days but it's already got a sure place on my top ten list this year. If you like fun or enjoy happiness check out the tracks [...]

A Movin' Movin' Train [...]

As you walk along the river with Aaron Schroeder on Call Out To Me , you might notice the lyrics of this song kind of sum up the response to Aaron's upcoming release - Black & Gold. It's no secret that the hype machine has changed how artist marketing works, but more importantly how bloggers work. Every young singer sounds like someone fantastic and after one song you will never be the same again. " He tells you he loves you and gives you a diamond. He calls you his angel ." As post after post heaps [...]
