If you've followed me on Facebook before you know that I enjoy cooking (understatement!) and like to post pictures of whatever food I make. In the RV it's a little bit more challenging to go on any culinary adventures. I try my best but work space is limited as well as cupboard space and having lived in this thing for about two months I'm not quite stocked up on spices and tools either. We're also on a budget whereas at home we almost never got around to eating those leftovers. But as someone said - musicians tend to [...]

From a Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel".

I remember discovering Norway's Casiokids a couple of years ago when a friend kindly added their computer-generated funk-rave-riot 'Fot I Hose' to a mixtape gift. After falling off my chair with excitement I wondered, "Why are these guys not international super heroes?" This initial enthusiasm was duly reinforced by a Casiokids gig that frothed with enough fizz and pop to power every Soda Stream machine ever invented. But, the thing with Bergen's best kept secret is, that they haven't quite managed to translate the energy of their unstoppably uplifting and [...]

Listening to her music, an otherworldly edge, surprising twists and powerful, haunting vocals make her much more than just another pretty folk-pop-acoustic performer. In other words, in Scandinavian music terms that Americans can understand, she's no ABBA retread and not quite the enigmatic eccentric of Bjork , but carving her own unique and welcome niche in the music world. Atlanta Retro writes about my music, my upcoming show at the Drunken Unicorn [...]
Hey kave kids, here's some more cooler than thou stuff from Redd Kross! Here's a quick Redd Kross story. Back in the 80's around the "Teen Babes From Monsanto" era- RK played a NYC show with the Circle Jerks, Toxic Reasons and DOA. I still have the poster from the show. So me and Davey snuck backstage (it was at this old theater/club called The Ritz- now known as Webster Hall). We were pretty "enhanced" and struck up a convo with the bros McDonald that focused mainly on mushrooms, stealing liquor from our parents stash and of course [...]
the R.E.M. may be over butt me ears get excited every time something new surfaces from the American rockers. dating back from '84, have a listen to the STIPE and co cover the ABBA's (then five year old) choon DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW ? wotyougot

Siete fan degli ABBA? Amate i Beatles?

Just when you thought you'd heard the last of R.E.M. , and I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean it in a "WOO look what we got" kind of way! A new track appears online dating back to 1984 when I was, well, unborn for another 5 years! The recording is of Stipe and co covering ABBA 's 1979 hit "Does Your Mother Know?". Did any of ABBA's tracks not become a hit?! Spin the R.E.M. cover below and the ABBA version is also there for comparisons sake. R.E.M.: [...]

With Beavis and Butthead back on the air after nearly a decade-and-a-half hiatus, I thought I'd take a moment to offer my belated thanks to these two badly-drawn boys for turning me on to a couple of bands that otherwise would have escaped my attention. Even before MTV got out of the music video business, Beavis and Butthead were airing videos that would never have gotten any airplay via mainstream channels. Presumably channeling Mike Judge's musical tastes, Beavis and Butthead provided US viewers with the first glimpses of several well-below-the-radar bands including the Dead Milkmen, the Cramps, Daisy [...]

Despite the "split heard 'round the world", R.E.M. continues to pop up in the feeds. This time for an early taping of the band covering ABBA's "Does Your Mother Know?", which recently hit YouTube. Dating back to 1984, the intimate recording begins with a request for two volunteers and ends it with a "nice round of applause for our dancers of the day, Sean and Mary!" Check out the track below. R.E.M.'s compilation Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982-2011 , is out now .
XYLOS is a five-piece electro-pop band from New York who has gained praise and spins from KEXP , KCRW and MPR's The Current . In addition, the New York Post named them as a "band to watch" for 2011. Well, we've been watching and this year has seen the band release their self-titled debut full-length album on top of tour dates with such acts as Oberhofer , Tapes 'N Tapes and most recently Trentemøller . With the bands 80's inspired production coupled with vocal harmonies reminiscent of ABBA [...]
