Consider this blog post a plea to the former members of Chicago's greatest hardcore/post-punk/post-rock/j azz band ever, Alex Dunham, Scott Adamson, Craig Ackerman, and Fred Erskine. I have so many questions about this record that need to be answered. I want to know what the hell this album means. I want to know why I can't stop listening to it, why I've literally gone through a dozen CDs over the course of the past five years - though I'm sure several periods of multiple daily listens and giving friends my copies probably answers that - why I keep returning to it. I suppose it might be due to the approach of July 4th, but for some reason I found myself thinking today about George Hamilton IV. (And by the way, you do know that I'm not talking about the terrifically tanned guy, right?) Hamilton the musician was one of the pioneers of the early rock and roll movement, but in the decades since has found much more success in pure country, along with gospel music. I was just looking over my 106/1001 list -- which now just a 97/1001 list and counting -- and I actually felt a tinge of pride in myself for actively trying to better my life. Lately it has felt as if everybody I speak to, be they a friend, coworker or acquaintance I've just made, has expressed dissatisfaction with their life.
