The band's new video for 'Moves' poses as a trailer for a fictional biopic of the musician that begins back in the late '70s with a young Newman getting his guitar smashed by jocks and busking for used Kleenex. The flick ends [...]
Watch: The New Pornographers - "Moves" (Official Video) In which John Hodgman, Ted Leo, Wyatt Cenac, Horatio Sanz, Julie Klausner, Kevin Corrigan, Jon Wurster, Todd Barry, Videogum's Gabe Delahaye, Donald Glover, and a slew of other funny folks depict the The Rise and Rise of The New Pornographers for one of my favorite music videos of the year so far. Enjoy director/comedian/radio host Tom Scharpling's take on "Moves," the opening track off TNP's 5th LP, Together , above.

The New Jersey singer-songwriter behind 2007's 'Neptune City' was hired a few years ago to sing backup for Feist on 'Late Show With David Letterman,' which led to [...]
Here is the latest and greatest in musical fun to watch and listen to online. All of it is free! Okkervil Newman Two of my favourites collide as Okkervil River are joined by A.C. Newman to perform the great new song "Wake and Be Fine" (from the upcoming album I Am Very Far ) on the Jimmy Fallon show. The Roots also join in the all-star fun. Video found at Pitchfork . She & Him [...]
While last year Okkervil River served as the backing band on psych-rock legend Roky Erickson's first solo album in 14 years, we haven't heard anything in the way of new music from the Austin-based act since 20082s The Stand Ins . On May 10, the "Smart-Rock" act will release their first new album in three years with I Am Very Far via their long time label Jagjaguwar. Earlier this week Will Sheff & Co., with the assistance of A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers, stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to debut [...]

It's been three years since the last Okkervil River album. On May 10th that all changes when the band releases I Am Very Far via Jagjaguwar . It features 11 new songs, produced and arranged by frontman Will Sheff in Austin, New York City and Connecticut. On Monday, the band performed a new song called "Wake and Be Fine" on Jimmy Fallon. They got help from A.C. Newman (New Pornographers) and members of The Roots. Check out that performance, below via The Audio Perv : [...]

The name of Okkervil River's new tune is "Wake and be Fine" from the forthcoming album, "I Am Very Far", to be released May 10th, presumably by Jagjaguwar . The release comes in time for the summer concert season and the billion music festivals that seem to be sprouting up everywhere. Watch out for the New Pornographer, A.C. Newman, in the video. He lends his vocals to song and the added percussion from ?uestlove really gives the song some punch. Okkervil River-Lost Coastlines [mp3]
Earlier this year at a solo show in NYC, Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff debuted some new tunes that were a-tumbling around in his head, which he said at the time may or may not become proper Okkervil River songs. But last night on Fallon, the band broke open a piñata of new treats, including the title for their forthcoming album, the release date, and a brand new song featuring A.C. Newman from The New Pornographers, a small string section, ?uestlove augmenting the drums, all couched in a power pop waltz that's one mighty [...]
New Okkervil River - "Wake & Be Fine" Okkervil River unveiled our first taste of their forthcoming album, I Am Very Far , in style tonight by giving us the LP's title and release date ( May 10) moments before belting out the new single on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , backed by ?uestlove and Damon Bryson of the Roots. Watch Will Sheff — who previewed two other new cuts, "Lay of the Last Survivor" and "Walked Out On A Line" , last year — share vocals with the New [...]

Between the Northern & Southern Stages [ Lollapalooza has rocked Chicago for six straight years as the reincarnation of a '90s music festival founded by Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell. Last weekend, Chi-town native Marisa Ptak soaked in Lollapalooza 2010: three days of music, heat, rain, and fashion. Below, her dispatch from the festival, with enough new tunes to last the rest of the summer.] FRIDAY - Day 1 - Get your [...]
If you do not know anything about the musical group (yes, this is not about pron) The New Pornographers, then you should find out. They are a super group of sorts, comprised of prolific and talented artists, all successful as solo artists. Go to their website for all the details, I don't need to hackishly [...]
Watch: The New Pornographers Perform for "It Gets Better" The Dan Savage-led "It Gets Better" Project has undoubtedly been one of the most uplifting and praiseworthy movements of 2010, recruiting an ongoing roster of potential role models that range from the president to Hollywood A-listers to Lady Gaga and many more to reach out and share their wisdom in the fight against teen suicide. Now the New Pornographers have filmed an exclusive performance of the apropos Challengers cut "Adventures in Solitude" for The New Gay at NYC's Terminal [...]
"Huh. On Perfect Couples screeners, theme song was Kings of Leon. On broadcast, AC Newman. That was quick." Per HitFix.com TV critic Alan Sepinwall , A.C. Newman > Kings of Leon. At least when it comes to soundtracking theme songs for new NBC sitcoms. Below, you can hear The New Pornographer's contribution to Perfect Couples , which premiered last night.
Photo by Philip Cosores The New Pornographers are not a band associated with political videos or social anthems, mostly because the power-pop gems that A.C. Newman pens generally conceal their meaning far below the surface. Thus, the new video for "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk" may seem a little out of left field, but the lyrics turn out to be a perfect fit. Warning: you will have to endure some mildly-painful banter before the video. The video is to raise awareness for OXFAM, who continues their effort to cleanup the gulf after a [...]

Rounding off a busy 2010, The New Pornographers are heading back to the UK this week for a special show at Shepherd's Bush Empire, as well as an appearance at Bowlie 2 at the weekend. The shows will mark the first time Neko Case has toured the UK with the band. TLOBF caught up with Carl Newman last week to discuss bringing more bombast to The New Pornographers, latest album Together , how Annie Clark is the female Hendrix and how he'd never let Sarah Palin use his music. Hi Carl, hows [...]

I don't love any band like I love Okkervil River . It's been well documented on various sites on the internet and, in fact, when I first moved to Illinois, I was given the nickname "Okkervil River Girl" and for good reason. The adoration I have for everyone affiliated with the band, from front man Will Sheff to former member and current Shearwater front man Jonathan Meiburg , is the kind of love that's hard to come by. If Neutral Milk Hotel was my first musical love, Okkervil [...]
Five good covers showcases Reel Big Fish, Anni B Sweet, A.C. Newman, MXPX, Hello India Calling and the literal version of a-ha's hit, "Take On Me."

It's been a while since I delivered a mixtape to you loyal readers. The first edition of the Workout mix debuted way back in early June with the second half due out mere weeks after, but despite having the mixtape prepped and ready to go for y'all, I've basically been a lazy writer. For those of your waiting to get your sweat on, hold out a few weeks longer, and your wish will be granted. For those of you, however, looking to cling to that last little bit of Summer, look no further than the Goodbye Summer Mixtape. [...]

Photography by Us ... Happy Friday to you, once again, my dear friends! Got a special little treat for ya today. The other day, I was bored with ye ol' iPod and was looking around for something different. Suddenly remembered that in my drawer behind me at my desk there's a stack of old case-less CDs I've used as dust collectors over the years. Thumbing through, found some fun little albums that I used to - and in some cases still do - listen to, but one (well actually three) CDs [...]
