These things happen - Action Painting! One of the first records on Sarah i ever heard, long before i became aware of that label's clout, its "sound" or the importance it would come to have in my life. Maybe even the absolute first. I couldn't have asked for a better introduction, despite it not really being an introduction at all. I sleep on everything. One of my favourite records Sarah released. I don't own a copy, though.
I've gotten a bit lazy with the full on Classic Album Reviews lately, so today I'm giving you a truncated version by doing a classic song review. I might do this with a few forgotten songs. Action Painting! was a Sarah Records band coming out of Brighton that is apparently unworthy of even a Wikipedia page. Sarah Records is yet another anomaly demonstrating the superior tastes of the late 802s U.K., probably best known for being the label that launched The Field Mice . I don't think that Action Painting! ever released [...]
30. The Traditionist - "I Know My Ocean"Joey Barro, the brain-child behind The Traditionist, turned out one of our favorite records of the year, the crushing Season to Season. "I Know My Ocean" remained one of the most approachable and re-listenable tracks on the record. Without over reading, it's a road-show, rambling bit of acoustic indie-rock. A harmonica shows up at one point, and a lazy

As you take a look through the list of my favorite singles from this past year, you may notice something a little off. Yep, my favorite songs this past year have been dominated by a lot of female artists or female fronted bands. But, the men also represent this year... just not as strongly as last year. 16. Trouble Andrew - Chase Money Snowboarder turned electro-punk Trevor Andrew turned in one of the best songs of the year with "Chase Money." It keeps the punk philosophy, adds some electronics [...]

These things happen - Action Painting! One of my favourite mp3 blogs - easily top three, probably all time favourite if i could declare such a thing without early morning fuzziness clouding the memory of any other blog i could permit or prohibit taking that place - is the sadly now defunct Little Hits . It was there i found this song. It was there i found so many great songs i could not find in the record stores around here, on any [...]
We had reviewed this awesome NYC indie-rock band Action Painters a little while back and were delighted to find out that they will be playing with The Drums tomorrow, June 17th, at Annex in NYC. If you happen to be in NYC you should check them out. They hit the stage at 9pm Action Painters @ Annex w/The Drums 152 Orchard St NYC enjoY! Action Painters - A Moment's Peace

If you are a regular reader of this dusty corner of the internet then you probably get excited by the likes of Orange Juice , the Monochrome Set , Vic Godard , the Bluebells and the Close Lobsters . The promo sheet for Socialist Leisure Party lists off a few of those bands, and listening to it, made me think of the others. So Socialist Leisure party have some choice influences going for them, but they also have pedigree. Half the band (Andy Hitchcock and Kevin [...]

Action Painters and Dynasty Electric are playing a loft party in BK tonight, more details here. If you prefer your parties sweatier, smellier, and knifier then this might be more to your liking:
This Friday stop by the Newsonic Loft to check out Action Painters and Dynasty Electric. Both bands are chums of ours and played our show at Castle In Hell a couple months ago. The last Newsonic show we went to was kinda crazy, in the good way. Lots of people dancing and drinking and what not. I highly recommend you buy some beer by your apartment before you go because there are NO bodegas open

Last night, I was happy my way to make my over to Pianos for an Oh My Rockness sponsored show. OMR is probably my favorite website; I use it at least once a day and have a very high regard for their taste. I was also excited to see that Pianos had replaced their outdated backdrop with something new (and much better to take pictures in front of). All in all, it was shaping up to be a great night. It turned out to be the Tale of Two Bands. One I wanted to hate, and [...]

Action Painters are a 5 piece band from Brooklyn that have begun to make a name for themselves in their hometown, which is known around the country for being the place bands are born. Because of the large amounts of creative and artistic people in the area, lots of folks re-locate there to get their musical careers started. That is partly how Action Painters began a couple years ago, and in the time since, they have not only gotten the attention of their contemporaries in the local area, but the ripple affect is beginning to spread. [...]
Wednesday's visit included: 456 Sooner of Later How Could It Be Supermarket Visit Action Painters on MySpace. Listen to WOXY here. MP3: Action Painters - Live On WOXY
For at least two weeks now, the Action Painters ' debut album, Chubby Dancer, has been in heavy rotation for me. If I had it on vinyl, it would show serious wear along the grooves of "456" and "Sooner or Later." So my hopes were high last night when they opened for Triggers in the Southside. Thankfully, they killed. Despite some terrible preshow decision-making (they actually ate the food at Jack's), the band brought to Lava Lounge a live energy I haven't seen anywhere in a long while. Leader Tom Haslow began the [...]

Brooklyn's Action Painters are in town tomorrow night at the Treehouse with friends of pat radio Ghost Shirt . Check out this slice of power-pop entitled "Supermarket" from Action Painters' forthcoming lp. Nice churning guitars and bouncy synth line here. Action Painters - Supermarket Hear a live performance by openers Ghost Shirt and learn more about the band right here .
Action Painters have released a new three-track EP titled "Lay That Cable". The first song, "Easy 2 Pretend" is a catchy introduction to the following two tracks, "456", and "Money Changes Everything". This three-song collection is upbeat, clever, and most importantly: danceable. The EP is different from the band's 2007 release of "Chubby Dancer", showing obvious growth both lyrically and

Cue the wiki: Action painting, sometimes called "gestural abstraction", is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied. The resulting work often emphasizes the physical act of painting itself as an essential aspect of the finished work or concern of its artist. A comparison is often drawn between the American action painting and the French tachisme. Fade to bio excerpts: [...]
Listen up. I'm only going to say this once: Action Painters are the best band in New York. Now, what can you gather from that statement, once you penetrate its overstatement and intentionally incendiary rhetoric? Not much? Well, listen closer.Latest single release "456" comes with an EP Lay That Cable and a spring tour. I shouldn't need to encourage you to see this band. But I will anyways: go

Despite the relative quiet lately I'm still here so please stay tuned. Between working too many hours a week at the day job and being sick as a dog with an annoying spring time cold the past few weeks, the content here has been a little sparse lately. Well, the cold is just about gone and the work hours seem to be letting up just a bit so I'm going to try and get this bus back on a more consistent schedule. There's been a lot of great music and news coming through my inbox, new Action Painters [...]

Looks like a preview of summer is heading our way, with highs getting close to 90 in some places. The unexpected heat is not going to keep the weekend show line-up from happening. It's another full weekend, so I'm going to have to split it up into two posts. This one will cover Friday and those that also hit other places after Friday. Kings of Leon from band's myspace Quite a few big name acts start things Friday and [...]
