Adam & Dave's Bloodline 's latest EP, Easy Enough , is quite dapper. Released last month, the four-track offering from the Philly five-piece is a sunny disposition of power-pop whimsy and folk-laden psych throwbacks (listen to it HERE ). Tonight, they'll put their always-sharp sound on display at North Star Bar, nicely countering locals Fang Fang 's earnest, gritty, reverb-heavy garage-punk and Giant Mind's abrasive but spellbinding electro alt-pop. Take that in with the rap-punk riot that is New York's Notorious MSG, and you have a night of strange beautiful bedfellows. North Star Bar, [...]

Photo by John Vettese Local rock quintet Adam And Dave's Bloodline is currently working on its next full-length album—and, in the meantime, has just released a new four-song EP for your summer listening pleasure. The Easy Enough EP, which was posted to the band's SoundCloud page yesterday, was recorded and mixed by Matt Schenck at Studio Bisco and mastered by Stephen Egerton at Armstrong Recording. Thanks to Adam Garbinski for giving us the heads up! Adam And Dave's Bloodline's next show is at [...]
Some of my favorite shows that I will remember forever involved going to see this version of Marah. The band was fantastic, the venues were intimate, and the fans there were some of the best people I've ever met. This lineup toured for the excellent album " If You Didn't Laugh, You'd Cry ." It featured founding members David and Serge Bielanko on vocals and guitar, Kirk Henderson on bass and keyboards, Adam Garbinski on guitar, and Dave Petersen on drums. These five guys together were incredible and this full show is great evidence of that. Check it out and [...]

Photo by John Vettese This week, Adam Garbinski e-mailed me demo tracks from the new record he's working on with longtime songwriting partner Dave Petersen, and an interesting comparison came up. "When a friend heard the new jams," Garbinski wrote, "He was like 'It's like Laurel Canyon meets The Replacements!'" In today's Philly Local Phile, we examine that unlikely fusion forged by Adam And Dave's Bloodline : "Misunderstood" drifts in wavy tones and ethereal tape hiss (which might be attributed to the demo-ness of the recording), but it also has a concrete grit, a rough [...]

There's plenty of truth to be found this weekend in the old saying "Too much music, not enough time." Every year when I go to SXSW, I am immediately overwhelmed by the choices and sheer number of bands that I want to see. But the secret to making it through SXSW is to not get hung up on what you'll miss and to just focus on a show-going schedule that you can actually make work. This year's Philly F/M Fest is a lot like that: a ton of excellent music (and movies), and no possible way to take [...]

The Philadelphia Film and Music Festival livens up the city this coming weekend. For those of you not familiar with it I'll let the press release do the talking: THE PHILADELPHIA FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL or "PHILLY F/M" for short) is a four-day festival taking place at over 30 music and film venues, with free outdoor stages, day parties and a record fair. Philly F/M will take place on Thursday, Sept 23 - Sunday, Sept 26th, 2010 and will feature a wide variety of regional, national and international musicians and films. The festival strives to be [...]

Photo by Paul Drzal Is the title of Adam And Dave's Bloodline 's "Cautious Again" an indicator of the band members' reluctance to revisit (and/or repeat) the past, or a declaration of their approach to handling the future? If the lyrics to the song (off last year's Boycott Classics ) are to be taken at face value, it's the former. In between the breezy pop track's jangling guitars and laid-back vocals, lines such as "I traipsed across the road/ I looked back at what I'd seen/ I etched it in my memory" and "We [...]

Gasoline Heart is not an indie rock band. They are a rock band, and a good old fashioned bar band at that. Like any rock band Gasoline Heart doesn't have an exact sound to compare themselves to. It's about a spirit, an attitude pulsing behind the chords and shouts. Gasoline Heart is the bottom of the bottle attitude that The Replacements famously showed off when playing Tom Petty covers as they opened for Tom Petty — they didn't care that an arena was booing them. They were just having fun, and that is [...]

If I had to pick a favotite band above all the rest, it would have to have been Marah. They've went through too many lineups to keep track of over the years, but at the heart of it was always two brothers from Conshohocken, PA, David and Serge Bielanko. Marah has went through some pretty distressing changes over the last few years, but regardless of what happens in the future, Dave and Serge worked with some great musicians to make their songs that were brilliant, poignant, and sometimes hilarious really come alive on stage and on record in all kinds [...]

Philadelphia band Adam and Dave's Bloodline released their excellent second record, Boycott Classics today. You can check out an album preview that appeared on this blog a few weeks back with a video and two songs here. Today they recorded some songs for Philadelphia's best radio station, WXPN. Band member Adam Garbinski sent me these tracks from their first live performance on YRock at XPN, back in the fall of 2007, for their first self titled debut album. Adam and Dave's Bloodline - Live on YRock at XPN [...]

I'm a little behind in getting this info up but it's not too late to save yourself from melting into the couch for the night on this somewhat gloomy evening and getting on down to Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia for the CD release party for Adam & Dave's Bloodline 's kicking new disc Boycott Classics . I've had the privilege of listening to it the past few weeks, and Adam & Dave and the band have made a record that truly combines the depth of their diverse influences, from punk rock to motown to new wave [...]

It is time once again for the round-up of the weekends musical events coming to the IA area. Not as packed as past weekends, but it is a little front heavy. Friday is absolutely loaded, before it slows down for Saturday and Sunday. Here's who is playing Friday and those going on to other regional locales afterwards: Dinosaur Jr. Photo by Johannes Scherman When certain bands get back together and tour, it's almost tragic. I'm not going to [...]

Adam and Dave's Bloodline are a great band from Philadelphia who are getting ready to release their second record, Boycott Classics , on May 12th. Band members Adam Garbinski, Dave Petersen, Kirk Henderson, Brian Newell, and Lois Volta have collaborated to make a phenomenal album that is the best record I have heard so far this year. I am really proud to preview it here for you. Here is a fun video for "I'm a Secret," followed by two mp3s of "In the Zoo" and "Before I'm Free," my two favorite songs off [...]

Our boy The 1/3 turned us on to this important happening in June. A bunch of bands that longtime Buzzgrinder readers will recognize and appreciate are reuniting for a good cause. I just went ahead and re-posted the entire blog entry from The Huntingtons about the event. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Circle Of Hope in Philadelphia (venue address & start time posted soon)... PIERCE FAMILY BENEFIT CONCERT A bit of info: Jeannie Pierce was diagnosed with stage 3 Brain Cancer on [...]

Adam & Daves Bloodline Photo by Carina Romano A Bag Of Songs exclusive early preview today from Adam & Daves Bloodline's upcoming Boycott Classics album. In The Zoo is a soaring slice of power pop filled with the sound of chiming guitars that urge you to turn it up as soon as it comes on. Last year's New Age Boredom EP was among the year's best releases and based on this one the full length followup is sure to be excellent as well. Boycott Classics [...]

Adam & Dave's Bloodline photos by Carina Romano Adam & Dave's Bloodline are beginning to rev up the live gig action again to crack the whip on yet another new release for the band. The upcoming follow-up album (to their 2007 full-length, Love) will be released this Spring (date TBA) and is to be titled "Boycott Classics". Whether this means that this fine young group are concerned with a 'boycott on all classics' or simply, subject matter concerning 'the classics of the boycott-era,' we know not. However we ponder it, this certainly leaves a lot to the imagination, and in the meantime: the band has happily handed over [...]

So Punxsy Phil predicts a long winter and the weatherman forecasts some snow for the Mid-Atlantic. Welcome to February! On a positive note, plenty of big names and quite a few locals are on the scene during the mid-week. Tuesday Where to start? Usually you have a list of bands like this on the weekend, but you take them when you can get them. DC is the place to be with four great shows. Photo from [...]

Looking for something to do this Thursday, come hang out with my friends from Girl About Town at the M Room as they have put together an excellent night of music to kick off the back to school season in style, featuring Austin TX's Brothers And Sisters , Philly's own Adam & Dave's Bloodline ,New York's Phonograph and Baltimore's Impossible Hair .
