Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody And now three reasons to celebrate a big Bears victory at Subterranean tonight... 1. Formerly of influential English alt-rock outfit Swervedriver, Adam Franklin hits Chicago's Subterranean tonight with his new band, Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody . The group is a bit is a departure from Swervedriver as Franklin now goes for a sounds that's significantly warmer. The guitars are crisp instead of blazing ("Yesterday Has Gone Forever"), and the songs are have a laid back vibe even in their moodier [...]

Franklin will be performing with his band Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody at the annual psych-rock-leaning affair, a benefit for the Arbor Day Foundation that also will boast appearances from the Icarus Line , the Morning After Girls , the Warlocks , Miranda Lee Richards , the Gram Rabbit [...]
Even though Adam Franklin seems to be getting closer to returning to the fuzzed-out shoegaze of his much revered former group, Swervedriver, on I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years he makes it quite clear on the opening track that he refuses to dwell on his past glory, and is fully invested in the noise he's making now. It's been quite a fruitful period as of late for Franklin, who has been busy making a few recent albums under his own name, as well as a batch of respectable records [...]

me thinks i could make a strong argument that swervedriver were one of most important bands to come out of the 902s. actually they never made it out of the 902s cause 99th dream was their last record which was released in 1998. thats all semantics though, cause the point is during their time together they made what i would consider 4 classic records, and yeah im even including the much underrated 99th dream . they often get clumped in with the likes of my bloody valentine and the whole shoegazer crowd, which is really unfair cause [...]

It's summertime, so Drake 's running on half speed, which means I'm running on about one quarter speed. Here are the new releases from when Canada Day was still around the corner. -ed. Drake's Take: New Releases 06.29.10 Summer's in full swing somewhere, just not in Seattle. Overcast with a high of 61? That sounds like new release weather... sadly, that's not the case. Fitting that it's Canada Day as the marquee release this week is from Wolf Parade , along with new releases from [...]

Johnny Moto Adam Franklin's resume is a long and impressive one - guitarist in Shake Appeal , leader of Swervedriver , principal of Toshack Highway , half of Magnetic Morning and title role in Adam Franklin & The Bolts Of Melody , with duties throughout all of them remaining consistent - craft guitar rock that ranges from the roaring to hypnotic and make it look effortless. And while technically Swervedriver's reunion continues and anytime Sam Fogarino has a spare moment Magnetic Morning can be back in action, it's as the last [...]

In the midst of the shoegaze movement of the late 80's and early 90's, Swervedriver were a band that stood apart from the rest. Not quite shoegaze, they were tossed into the category by journalists too lazy to listen closely. In fact, they were better described as epic grunge for the long car trip through the desert. Between 1991 and 1997 they issued four major label masterpieces (although it took Sony until 2003 to issue the third album 'Ejector Seat Reservation' in the U.S.!). Rather than burning out, as did many of their contemporaries, Adam Franklin [...]

Frank Yang When I caught Friendly Fires at Lee's Palace back at the end of March , they were here as support for White Lies and their high-energy disco party easily stole the show from the angst-ridden headliners. And while their profile has since grown to the point that they were able to play their fourth local show in just over a year on Wednesday night at the Phoenix, buzz-wise the shoe was on the other foot - the gig was sold out, but that was largely because the show also marked [...]

Image From Here If you don't know Adam Franklin, then you should. Franklin was born in Essex, England and is most well known as the frontman/guitarist for one of the best 90's Shoegaze bands - Swervedriver. Along with his more recent solo work, he has also been a part of Toshack Highway and Magnetic Morning. Regarding his solo career, his debut release was Bolts Of Melody released in 2007. Bolts had Franklin returning to his Swervedriver roots and was full of the trademark sprawling, guitar heavy sound. A great album and [...]

Cool album art. The art is in the music on this one though. Franklin has really got the art of crafting perfect, melodious heavily guitar laden indie Rock. The album starts off with the stupendous sounding 'Surge'. It's a timeless indie classic that could literally have been made yesterday, tomorrow or a decade ago. You wouldn't know because it just has that sound. Franklin's vocal talents and song writing capabilities are powerful too, but it's his guitar riffs that really get me. The opening bars of 'It Hurts To See You Go' would totally [...]

Frank Yang Sure, it was billed as the Nylon Summer Music Tour , implying a traveling roadshow with all performers on some sort of equal footing, but everyone knew that this was the Patrick Wolf tour and the other three acts were just the openers. Or at least that's what I'd thought going into Wednesday night's stop at the Mod Club in Toronto - and even if the audience was on board with that train of thought, it was obvious from the get-go that the bands didn't necessarily agree and were [...]

MySpace It takes a lot to get me past my aversion to slap bass. I have no fondness for the technique, in fact it's pretty much anathema to me - so it's no small thing when I say that on Seven Across the Sea , the second album from Toronto's Key Witness , it works. The lead track, "Brother John", kicks off with a pretty intense slap attack before segueing into a barnstorming country rock number, and that approach - the melding of seemingly incongruous styles onto a raw, roots-rock core - is what [...]
