It's hard for friends to understand when I try explaining to them this absolute nausea I feel about New Year's Eve. I go out, I appreciate being around the friends... I'm happy enjoying the moment with them, yet in the back of my mind is a swelling sadness, a wave so huge that by the [...]

I put the emphasis on my because these aren't going to appear on anyone else's run-down of 2010. Or two out of three anyway - the artists of my year actually have a lot in common, but release dates aren't one of them. Not that there wasn't enough good music out in 2010. It's been a long-ass time since I made one of those numbered lists - I used to love doing it, but I think I might have taken it a little too seriously and they would always end up taking me [...]

And so, another year marches to a close - another fantastic, adventure-filled, technicolor year. It's the time when all of us start kicking around our neatly-bulleted lists of bests and worsts. For me, the more I read these lists, the more I feel that I missed more albums and artists than I heard this year. The stats are staggering: in 2002, about 33,000 albums were released. In 2006 that number was 75,000. Last year close to 100,000 albums were released, with only roughly 800 of those albums selling more than 5K. It's tough out [...]

hey howdy hi! wanna see adam haworth stephens (two gallants) and the felice brothers live at one eyed jacks tomorrow night? you do? awesome! just leave a comment, by 8 am cst tomorrow, and i will randomly select a person to win said pair of tickets. for those that may be unaware, mr stephens released his solo record, we live on cliffs, back in sept, and for some reason totally flew under my radar. this coming from a guy thats pretty fond of two gallants. still, havent heard the record, but i can only expect great [...]
It is getting to that point where serious consideration for the year-end feature must be done. This year's top 20 or so is relatively easy for me to make; there are so many quality albums that could fit. It is the actual ordering of them that becomes tricky though. November is essentially the last month [...]
Mountain Stage's October 17th concert featured Adam Haworth Stephens of Two Gallants, Lost in the Trees, Mollie O'Brien and Rich Moore, Alejandro Escovedo, and The Felice Brothers. I reviewed the show for a local newspaper, so I initially didn't intend to write about it here. But I do enjoy rambling about good music, so here's an expanded review with more details that pesky newspaper word count wouldn't allow me to include... A small but very enthusiastic crowd greeted Sunday night’s Mountain Stage performers. During the standard pre-show announcements and applause rehearsal, host Larry Groce jokingly blamed [...]

ADAM HAWORTH STEPHENS | WE LIVE ON CLIFFS SADDLE CREEK Adam Haworth Stephens, one half of the San Francisco folk duo Two Gallants, recently released his debut solo venture We Live on Cliffs . While a solo effort, Stephens is far from alone, calling upon the talents of guest musicians Patrick Hallahan (drums, My Morning Jacket) who appears on many of the tracks, Bo Koster (organ, My Morning Jacket), Nate Walcott [...]

Another week, another mixtape... Tracklisting: Adam Haworth Stephens - Second Mind Eat More Cake - Underwater Gorillaz (featuring Daley) - Doncamatic (All Played Out) Guster - Architects & Engineers Plan B - Love Goes Down Pop. [...]

Photography by Akemisatya ... Well hello there and happy hump day to ya! Chilly morning with a gorgeous sunrise on the bike ride today, busted out the tights, first time since last winter/early spring, and therefore, ergo, busted out the SEXY! Uh-huh! Though a little rain came in for a bit immediately after the ride, the expectations are sunshine and gorgeousnesocity for the rest of the week! Meaning miles and miles and miles on my bike!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!! Now, though winter is fast approaching, and that may [...]
Adam Haworth Stephens of Two Gallants stepped out on his own with the release of We Live On Cliffs last month on Saddle Creek . After streaming songs on his myspace for a couple weeks I finally got my ears on the whole record yesterday. You can take a listen to some of the songs from the album and check him out on the road with the Felice Brothers through November. MP3: Adam Haworth Stephens [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Two Gallants is a rocking good time, so what would we see when Adam Haworth Stephens decided to go it alone for his first solo release, We Live on Cliffs . It's precisely what you don't expect, as aside from his distinctive vocals, you find a young man fleshing out his sound, exploring territory that's familiar to him, though not necessarily associated with his work. When we first jump into [...]

Here are The Wheel’s Still In Spin’s suggested new releases. As always, feel free to leave a comment with your suggestions. Aloe Blacc – Good Things. Download “You Make Me Smile” (mp3). This album is imbued with inspired production to create an extension of the 70s soul sound. Aloe Blacc intones socially conscious lyrics into each song. This is the kind of album that you’d hope Marvin Gaye or Curtis Mayfield would be making if they were still with us. No Age – Everything in Between. Download “Glitter” (mp3). After releasing numerous EPs and singles and two full-length albums since [...]

After - or perhaps because of - a recent-ish collection of solo albums by lead singers, none of which I could fully understand the point of (yeah, I'm lookin' at you, Julian Casablancas, Paul Banks, Kele Okereke), I was a little nervous when I heard about the upcoming Adam Haworth Stephens solo project. Alec Ounsworth somehow managed to make an album that didn't really sound like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, despite having one of the oddest and most distinctive voices in indie, but the rest left a lot to be desired. I'm beating a dead horse here, [...]
