In the wake of Adam Yauch's tragic and untimely death from cancer, we were interested to read that a group of Brooklyn residents have started a campaign to rename a Brooklyn Heights park in his honor. However, according to the Brooklyn Paper , there's a problem with the idea: the park in question is already named in honor of another notable Brooklyner. It commemorates one Dr Edward Robinson Squibb , a pharmaceutical manufacturer who started his first laboratory on the site in the 19th century. Squibb sounds like an interesting fellow — amongst other [...]

Before Cee Lo Green and his reunited Goodie Mob crew physically took to the MGM Grand Stage during their "Fight To Win" performance at the Billboard Music Awards , a one-legged dancer in military garb arrived on crutches and proceeded to wow the audience with jaw-dropping moves. Then a wall was lifted and the quartet, decked out in all white, belted out their new inspirational new single. Afterwards — and eeping with the "fight" theme — Cee Lo yelled, "Yo, Billboard Awards — get your [...]

A wonderful tribute to Adam "MCA" Yauch by James Winters: kids re-enacting Beastie Boys' "Sabotage"!

Since Adam Yauch 's death on May 4 , tributes to both MCA and the Beastie Boys have rolled in , but this may be our favorite. James Winters , a Portland-based filmmaker, created a reenactment of the Boys' Spike Jonze -directed "Sabotage" video , enlisting the help of his wife, kids and nephew in order to pay tribute to MCA. Car chases and jumping off ledges, however silly they were portrayed in the original video, are a bit too dangerous for children, so this remake gets a few changes: high-rise [...]

Like any good Gen-Xer I have been sharing my love for the Beastie Boys with my son. It’s become more focused and poignant with Adam Yauch’s passing and so when I see stuff like this I can’t help but smile and feel good knowing there are other cool-ass kids out there learning about the band. I love this video and you just know MCA would too. Via Kill Rock Stars
The recent death of Adam "MCA" Yauch is something that hit most of us pretty hard here at Flavorpill, so we were happy to come across this wonderful tribute that Portland-based filmmaker James Winters shot with a group of kids over the weekend. While there's certainly no touching the original, we're fairly sure that Yauch would have approved of this remake of the "Sabotage" video, because really, what's not to love about a bunch of adorable children in ridiculous wigs and aviators? [...]
James Winters created this ridiculously adorable tribute to recently deceased Beastie Boy, Adam “MCA” Yauch . Winters cajoled his wife, kids and his nephew for the video - one that would probably be a viral hit regardless, but is that much more touching given the recent passing of Yauch. [via blogtown ]
