Ever heard of Ghent? I didn't think so. Well, if you haven't, don't beat yourself up too much because not once have I heard that perfectly plain North American yammer during my time spent here, despite the town bearing Lonely Planet's number 7 spot on its 10 Places to Visit Before You Die list. But enough about the town. Its lovely. Trust me. Canals, churches, cobblestone, jolly drunks, pretty people, and prettier personalities; its all here. What else is here, though, is an incredibly unique concert series showcasing an acute selection of electronic music's foremost purveyors. That's the [...]

High on our 'must see' list at this weekends Bloc is UK dubstep act Addison Groove (aka. Headhunter). His track 'Footcrab' , released in 2010 on Swamp 81 was one of the first of many juke influenced UK releases and inspired in turn a whole wave of juke infused tracks from artists such as iTAL tEK and Rammadanman . Check out his 2011 release "This is it" below, a VIP of which was dropped by Pinch on his recent Fabric Mix and we hope to hear [...]

Addison Groove (Antony Williams to his pals) has long stood out among his contemporaries, ever since 20092s 'Footcrab' broke the mould by rejecting the rave nostalgia of "Purple" and the over-the-top wobble that came from both sides of the Atlantic. Instead, he went in search of new sounds, that at the same time grew from something much older, with a greater history. Of course by know you'll realise I'm talking about juke and it's backward glances to the history of Chicago house. But to describe his music as just a nod the past [...]

In March, we had the opportunity to sit down with Chicagonian Frite Nite founder, friend of Friends of Friends , and Red Bull Music Academy alumnus, Salva , on the Vancouver stop of his recent tour with Nguzunguzu . Tune in for Salva's thoughts on his European tour with Shlohmo, his constantly developing taste, and the art of turntablism. Picture your swiftest So-Cal colloquial drawl and you're halfway to imagining the precise yet skittering speech of artist-in-spotlight Paul Salva. LL: How was the European tour? [...]

by Andrew Sacher Addison Groove UK producer Anthony Williams, who has previously recorded as Headhunter , released his debut LP under his new Addison Groove moniker earlier this month on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label. The album is called Transistor Rhythm and puts Addison Groove next in the recent line of producers bringing Chicago juke and footwork into the UK bass scene. Stream clips of the album below alongside full streams of the [...]
We at HiFi Cartel are excited to announce our upcoming event at Brooklyn's Glasslands, featuring the likes of some proper badmen...and a badgyal. Stopping off in NYC as part of their Surefire Sound Spring Tour, we bring you the likes of Addison Groove (LIVE) and Doc Daneeka on April 28th. Opening up the night will be bass sweetheart and Miami-based producer/DJ Jubilee. Check out more info on the artists at the jump. ADDISON GROOVE - Tony Williams is having a very busy year [...]

★★★☆☆ Antony Williams will forever be judged by the irrepressible "Footcrab." If you’re after more of the same crowd-slaying, booty bass-beating juke that sends vocal samples spinning in the middle of a game of sonic tetherball, you do get cruder incarnations "Bad Things" and "Beeps" both featuring Spank Rock, and "Starluck" dishing out drum machine punishment. The rest of his debut LP refers to his breathless calling card, but in a slower and chunkier format of torrential up-down drum kicks and cowbells, and Chicago prototypes dragged down by low-end weight. Whether athletically muscular or [...]

Full event details on Facebook , and event flyer below. The above is a photo of the interior of St. Stephens-in-the-fields Church, which has what looks like 302 ceilings, and enough room for several hundred ravers. Behind this incredible concept is Mansion, a noteworthy Toronto production team that has been lauded for their highly-curated Happy Endings nights, held in the top floor of a dim sum restaurant which they have outfitted with a powerful soundsystem. There's something about the aesthetic, shape, and character of a room that informs how a performer [...]

Son Raw’s getting into some real bad things. It’s impossible to overstate the impact of Addison Groove’s Footcrab single. Previously best known for his slow, technoid Dubstep as Headunter, Tony Williams not only re-launched his career with his Chicago-London fusion piece but also helped ignite outsider interest in Footwork and synthesized a direction for Loefah’s since-dominant Swamp81 record label. Transistor Rhythms, Williams’ first album under the Addison Groove moniker, reigns things in a bit. If you’re expecting 13 tracks of Footwork, you’ll probably be disappointed as this Addison grooves to a slower, more traditional booty-house [...]

The new thing in the UK is a sort of mix between Chicago Juke, Baltimore Club, and post-dubstep half-time beats. Think short vocal snippets repeated ad nauseam over insanely fast and syncopated 808 beats. It's actually surprisingly fresh, especially considering how derivative it is. Addison Groove had something of a hit a couple years back with Footcrab , a bizarrely funky tune that really showed his Juke and B-more club influence. To further reinforce this, he features Philly / Baltimore heavy hitter Spank Rock on two songs. Not every song on the album is [...]

Addison Groove have released a new video for their single, "Bad Things", from their recently released album, Transistor Rhythm . "Bad Things" could very well be the best Nike commercial ever made. Watch it below. Read more »
ADDISON GROOVE ANNOUNCES TOUR IN SUPPORT OF TRANSISTOR RHYTHM, OUT THIS WEEK ON MODESELEKTOR’S 50 WEAPONS “there's a crystal-clear clarity that proves absolutely devastating: with its claustrophobic synth swells, timpani-like drums and mini-earthquake of a bassline . . . there's a certain sheen here that feels ineffably modern, like he's buffed these beats to a chrome shine.” – Resident Advisor “These tracks are all about being in the moment, in the mix, feeding off of the energy of the DJ and surrounding cuts.” – Dusted “delirious party music” – NME This week [...]
Addison Groove twists Spank Rock's 'Backyard Betty' into his own 808-assisted sparse party track 'Bad Things'. This is taken from the new album Transistor Rhythm , released on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label. Speaking of Spank Rock, there's a lovely Shabazz Palaces remix of 'Car Song' about.

As I turned in my first term paper today I had the horrifying realization that I only have about a month left in my undergraduate studies. This seems like it must be a joke, but instead of hiding under my bed and pretending I'm still in first year like I want to, I'll just distract myself with some sick new songs and videos. First up is a new video from Sigur Ros called "Ekki Mukk." This track is an early single off of their upcoming album "Valtari," which will be released on May 28th. These guys are always [...]
