Suede has managed to revive a bit of interest in themselves amongst the general public by returning with a decent record. Robbie Williams has managed to pique mine by being a blowhard. Recently, Robbie has taken to his blog to remind us that boy bands are ok. I'm going to say something nice about him now [...] The post Robbie Williams Uses Both Sides Of His Mouth appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

I've never had sex to a Prince song, and I probably won't until I get married. Why? Because Prince Rogers Nelson doesn't just make music, he makes small blessings in audio form. These aural miracles should only be shared physically with someone of the utmost importance (Not you, hos). With that said, I present tonight's ' Late Night Snack ': "Adore" Adore by Prince on Grooveshark "Adore" is the last track on Prince's 1987 double-disc album, Sign "O" the Times , and easily one of [...]

A couple of recent shoegaze album lists from Sounds Better with Reverb and Surfing on Steam prompted me to recall those heady days of shoegaze between 1988 and 1994. My recollection wasn't about the great albums, though there were some, but about the EP's. Those of us there at the time know that it was all about the EP. Albums were slow to come and often disappointing but the EPs came quick and were often a band's pinnacle. Often a band would do a brilliant EP and then never reach the same heights on the album, or never [...]

I saw this list the other day and felt compelled to make a more comprehensive, accurate, and essential rundown of albums that have truly stood out in a musical and historical sense. Albums that are influential, groundbreaking and still memorable. And let's be clear that bands like Galaxie 500, Mercury Rev, Verve, Mazzy Star, etc., these are all great bands that have produced some astounding work, but they are definitely not shoegaze. It's obviously way too early to rank the new MBV album so I'm not even gonna go there. [...]
In celebration of 20 (f'n hell) years since the release of Adorable's "Against Perfection", the main man, Pete Fij himself has released this acoustic version of Homeboy. Listen to it by clicking here and name your price for the download. As a side note, Against Perfection is one of those albums any fan of my podcast should own. Not a filler track on the entire LP. From Pete Fij: I recorded this acoustic version of 'Homeboy' several years ago during [...]
With her Oscar win for "Skyfall" last night (February 24), Adele is halfway to Hollywood's holy grail, that ever-elusive EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). And don't think the savvy singer isn't aware. Billboard reports that during her press conference after winning for Best Original Song, Adele said, "Maybe I'll do an HBO special like Beyonce did...And a Tony, I'm not so sure. Maybe someday I'll do a musical." This seems like a completely realistic possibility! At age 24 Adele has already secured [...]

by Tiana Feng Sunday was the conclusion of Wavelength 132s weekend music series. The audience had not yet grown tired from the weekend. By midnight the Garrison had sold out of tickets. Cell Memory and Castle If began the night with the same sort of droney long songs they played at the Exclaim! Christmas party. Their set was actually really short but felt like 2 songs that went on forever. If a band wants to [...]

In the lead-up to Wavelength 13 's final night at the Garrison , a rather heated Facebook exchange took place on the Wavelength 13 event page. Accumulating fifty-six comments in less than 24 hours, the post complained about the technical difficulties on Friday night during Doldrums 's set, placing the blame on the Wavelength crew and arguing that $18 is much too high a price for a show that had sound problems during the headliner (despite the fact that $18 for five excellent bands is, I would say, a steal). Wavelength fans, music-lovers, [...]
Look, this isn’t the greatest video ever made (every cliche of 90’s shoegaze and baggy bands is present), but you certainly can’t tell the story of Creation Records, or even the history of that era’s best music, without Adorable ’s fantastic first single “Sunshine Smile”.
A fresh take on a genre that was never broken, Books on Fate treats your earholes to an arrangement of listening candy that will wear out your play button.

The old flames always seem to resurface, and hopefully they still sound good, or at least interesting. Here are a couple of related releases that may interest those of you who, like me, have a very fond place in your heart for Creation Records...and yes, they still sound good. Mr. Peter Astor (The Loft, The Weather Prophets) released his latest solo album sometime within the last year, and I just found out about it. Songbox is available on the Second Language label. Here's the video for "Dead Trumpets," directed by none other than [...]

Tweet There's something about music which isn't quite all there that really does it for us. Music with wonderful melodies that are buried beneath intentionally muddy production. Or music that sounds like it's performed perfectly, but recorded in a room down the hall. We like music that hints at what it's going after rather than sitting us down and spelling it all out for us. For some reason it gets a stronger reaction than something just as good but more straightforward. We don't [...]

Savoir Adore have been on my radar since 2010, when I discovered them performing at Rockefeller Center for Fashion's Night Out . Since then, this ethereal pop band has been touring with amazing artists (Oh Land, St. Lucia, The Knocks), working on a follow up album to their 2010 debut In The Wooded Forest and (deservedly) raising their profile. Savoir Adore released the EP Dreamers earlier this year, which features five remixes of the title track (including Body Language and French Horn Rebellion) and the ethereal stunner "Sea [...]

ADOR Let It All Hang Out Souls of Mischief '93 Til Infinity Given that Toronto's now hanging out in double digit weather, I'll jump the gun and offer up two summer jams. Classics! Pete Rock produced the ADOR track - great choice to sample the Gerald Wilson Orchestra's "California Soul." If memory serves me correctly, this frequently appeared in skateboard videos throughout the 90s. A [...]
From a press release : "Little Printer lives in your home, bringing you news, puzzles and gossip from your friends. Use your smartphone to set up subscriptions and Little Printer will gather them together to create a timely, beautiful mini-newspaper." Little Printer looks completely impractical and a giant waste of paper, but it sure does look like it delivers a certain amount of happiness, doesn't it?
