I used to love my Sunday morning posts. I'd wake as normal at the crack of dawn and search and shuffle to find a song that befitted the calm and tranquillity that only this time of the week brings. Lately of course we have our own little personal cockerel who makes non-essential tasks something that can be looked after once the moment has passed. Wouldn't change it for the world but now that she is at about 32 into a series of 40 winks I thought I'd dish out something appropriate from down West, namely Adrian Crowley who really belongs [...]
...in this gorgeous new video for the title track to his equally gorgeous record Season of the Sparks. Adrian let us know about a video he's made to accompany the title track from his Choice Music Prize winning album 'Season of the Sparks' and it is, of course, brilliant, subtle and beautiful - much like [...]
The latest Souljacker -directed video for Adrian Crowley's 'Season Of The Sparks' was shot in Sally Gap in Wicklow. It's not the first time they have worked together - there are also these two great lush green clips. Adrian is playing in Cork on Friday in a secret venue.
"Arcadian" is one way in which Chemikal Underground describe this record. "Pastoral" is another: "Pastoral"; obviously, this conjures up thoughts of Vergilian hexameters and Tityrus reclining lentus in umbra. Or maybe Calpurnius Siculus and his jolly little lines on the contrasts between Neronian Rome (a bad, bad place!) and the countryside. Maybe for those who're [...]

Christ, my liver is suffering quite badly from Festival Burn as it is, and I have barely attended this year's festival at all. I am hoping for a few nights spent drinking tea when we go to China, because God knows I can't handle much more bloody drinking. Still, this week looks like a relatively kindly one in terms of personal chemical punishment, so the people of Edinburgh have the best part of a week to prepare themselves for the fireworks which mark the end of the Festival. Christ I need a glass of orange juice. [...]
Myles O' Reilly is the finest music documentarian Ireland has right now. Here, over the course of ten minutes, he takes us into a warm and fuzzy night at Space54 (which closed down over the weekend) as Donal Dineen and friends play the venue. In order of appearance: Hulk and Adrian Crowley , Lisa O' Neill , Donal Dineen DJing (the Mount Kimbie Foals remix ) and Niwel Tsumbu . I love the shot drawing you into the venue at just after 7 minutes. This is [...]

This is my new and only weekly feature ... 4 songs from Irish artists and bands which are in some way connected! We are nearing the end of Summer 2010 so I've picked four great Summer inspired tunes from my ever growing music collection. If you like the song can you go to the artists myfacetwitterthingy and befriend them! The first song is by Mark Dignam which appeared on Mark's second album 'In A Time of Overstatement'. It's [...]

This is a quality EP from a hugely talented band from Dublin/Kildare. It contains that one superb track which elevates the band above the ordinary. In really simplistic terms if you can imagine a quirky frontman of an alternative rock band, say for example if Adrian Crowley fronted The Frames then you come close to what The Blue Choir offers. Their debut EP entitled 'Get Ready For War' contains five well written songs which are full of guile and passion [...]
More updates from the world of live music: Soulfly play Dublin Academy, 1st August, with Canadian hardcore types Cancer Bats coming to the same venue on 3rd November. Adrian Crowley has added Arab Strap's Aidan John Moffat to the bill for his Button Factory show on July 24th. Blondie play Belfast's Nugent Hall next Wednesday 23rd June. Blondie - X Offender Australian hard rockers Airbourne have announced two Irish [...]

This morning I found these videos taken by Myles O'Reilly who is Juno Falls in the music world. His website is fast becoming an essential space for me. Check it out here: http://www.arbutusyarns.com/ Here's three recent video clips from Lisa O' Neill, Adrian Crowley and Seamus Fogerty taken at the recent Homegame Event in Scotland. [...]
![Top 50 Irish Acts - Part 2 [31 - 40]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2439423_lg.jpg)
This week [Monday - Friday] I'm counting down my Top 50 artists in my humble opinion at this moment in time. The artists are to have released an album/ep or played a gig since Jan 2009 in order to qualify for the list. 31. Junah Junah are another act in my top 50 who are preparing the release of their debut album after many years perfecting their sound. Their folk rock music full of big sound is elevated by the great vocal harmonies in their songs. [...]

Previously on St. Patrick's Day, we've covered Sinead O'Connor, U2, and Celtic Punk; there's an autumnal feature from the 2008 ICONS Irish Music festival lurking in the archives, too, with coverfolk offerings from Solas, Luka Bloom, The Tannahill Weavers, and Alison Brown. In honor of the holiday, on Wednesday, March 17th, we will be reviving long-dead download links on all four of those older posts, so don't forget to return on St. Pat's Day itself for a full Irish breakfast of fine acoustic music. But there's certainly more to be found in the [...]
eagleowl Toad Session from Song, by Toad on Vimeo . Video: Vimeo - YouTube Photos: Flickr - Blueback Hotrod Audio: below A large part of me thinks there should be an Eagleowl Interviewers' Support Group. They are some of the loveliest people you will ever meet, but getting them to talk is like trying to learn Kung-Fu in an afternoon. I've been down the pub with these guys, so I know it's not [...]
So a little later than usual, it's the second instalment in the newly revitalised State podcast series. Still looking for that elusive title to the series, Jules and Laura return to bring you music, mindless banter and plenty of interviews with some of the most interesting acts to visit our fair city last month. First up, it's the lovely Victoria and Alex from Beach House who speak to us about some of their favourite tracks from their current album, the intoxicating Teen Dream . Then it's off to the Academy, where [...]

Organising anything in this country is generally a recipe for thanklessness. Once you get past the begrudgers and naysayers you've got to deal with a whole heap of apathy. I've limited experience of the subject but my toes are unlikely to dip into said murky waters until I at least grow some balls. So I have genuine respect for the folks behind the Choice Music Awards . What it lacks in a clear mission statement it more than makes up in pushing a clutch of near unknowns towards that fabled spotlight. And the award has certainly stepped [...]

6/1 shot Adrian Crowley stole the Choice Music Award headlines on an emotional night at Vicar Street, securing the vote of assembled media experts in the final two minutes of deliberations. Crowley's fifth album Season Of Sparks won the mellow Galway star a pot of 10,000 Euro and the title 'Irish album of the year 2009', an accolade he accepted in a state of genuine shock at the end of a night crammed full of Ireland's top talent. CODES opened proceedings, demonstrating once again the extent to which their energetic live show surpasses the choirboy-style vocals [...]
Last night saw some excellent live performances from many of the nominees for the Choice Music Prize 2009 (don't worry, you are looking at the ceremony held in 2010, it's just for the best Irish album of 2009), but by far the best were Dark Room Notes and And So I Watch You From Afar. Both bands are on their debut albums, so who knows what the future may hold awards-wise. CODES opened the night strongly, before Julie Feeney toned it down a notch. Feeney had been the darkhorse when nominees were announced, but crept up to become [...]

Congratulations to Adrian Crowley who won the fifth annual Choice Music Award last night at Vicar Street. The award is given to the best Irish album of the year (thus Choice Music Prize 2009). His album Season of the Sparks was pronounced the winner by Jim Carroll of the Irish Times , who was the non-voting chair of an extensive judging panel, made up of luminaries from the entire Irish music scene. Jim asked for predictions yesterday on his On the Record blog , and guess who picked the winner correctly. That's right, yours [...]
