Louisville's Dangerbird has a show at the Nachbar on Saturday, Feb 7th. They are playing with Louisville's Adventure and releasing a 10 song CD. It's a free show and the CD price will be donation only. Meaning whatever anyone wants to pay is cool by the band. They know that most folks don't have lots of extra cash, so even if you can't pay anything, that's cool too. Dangerbird is a full tilt, loud ass band from Louisville, KY. The band is Brian Gray (vocals, guitar), Mike Nix (guitar, vocals), Donnie Bott (bass), [...]
Lots of new releases, but not too many notable ones. Bruce Springsteen and Franz Ferdinand are the clear front-runners in my mind. I might check out the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez album too, since I'm a big fan of The Mars Volta . Oh, and I put Hoobastank in there because I bet Ben Pike likes them. And the Incomplete Collection of Louisville Punk release is for Sean, obvs. :: Anahita , Matricaria (Important) :: Asa , [...]

Starting out 2009 right, Baltimore's Dan Deacon is gearing up for a couple of releases in the early part of the new year. The new LP, Bromst , is set to drop March 24, as well as a split 123 release with fellow B-more band Adventure . Here's a track from Bromst : MP3: Dan Deacon - "Get Older"
Between all the Round Robin touring and the debut of his new 15-piece musical ensemble , Dan Deacon has certainly been a busy man in recent months. But one look at his upcoming itinerary, and it's safe to say life will likely only get busier for the Baltimore based DJ. Of course, a large part of this is due to the forthcoming release of his new studio album, Bromst . In a little more than two months, March 23rd to be exact, Deacon will unveil the 12-track effort in all its [...]
So what if every other blog is posting this track too? We share a love for Mr. Deacon that cannot be denied. The track, appropriately titled "Get Older", is about a more mature Dan Deacon . According to the press release, it is about realizing that aging, growth and change should be embraced, not feared. The music is more about a celebration than a party. The party's not over, it's just not a drunken rager anymore. It is a music to celebrate with, to get [...]

(Photo credit: Jonathan Purvis) Dan Deacon - "Get Older" Dan Deacon's been making a resurgence in the news of late, most notably with his large 15-piece live ensemble, which is by some accounts , hit or miss. For the most part we love our Dan Deacon here at Stark, and we're especially excited about his new record Bromst coming out March 24(Carpark.) While his bold but slightly uneven debut Spiderman of the Rings featured all electronic instruments, Bromst [...]
This is spectacular.?? I suppose if we're going to kick start 2009, The Oysters might as well kick start it with this.?? Humans using flying suits and cruising around off the cliffs of Norway. Breathtaking, sweeping, epic.?? How is it that I've never been suckered into doing this before? wingsuit base jumping from Ali on Vimeo .

So something kinda real rad happened. Our friend FRODE (from Northern Europe), I'll call him our 'International Correspondent', just took a trip to IRAN! He was there for quite a bit and brought along with him 200 copies of the IHEARTCOMIX/SCION mixtape to pass out. Whether or not this was legal or not, I'm not sure, but it is pretty fucking rad. I would never have guessed that that mixtape could play a part in bringing peace to the middle east.;) Here are pictures and FRODE in his own words. Thanks FRODE! [...]
It's always hard to judge movies aimed squarely at young kids from the perspective of a jaded adult. Especially because I love to go back and revisit the movies I have fond memories of - unfortunately, after watching them I'm disgusted with my taste as a child. Still, the new entry into the Witch Mountain franchise(?) starring The Rock and a couple of kids looks like it could be good, disposable fun to take young cousins or nieces and nephews to. Something the slightly older too cool for Pixar crowd might like. Also, The [...]
We've uncovered the Air Wolf consipiracy and established connections between McGruber MacGuyver and Chuck Norris ; now it's time to figure out what role, if any, Bmore-based Adventure's 8-bit synth compositions play in our earliest console memories. The clues are hidden inside this BT bootleg video of "Battle Cat" - if you're the first to name all 38 'tendo games in the comments section, in order, Benny will send you an autographed copy of his new self-titled debut. And we'll send you everything you see here so that others [...]

Future Islands feat. Vic from Beach House (below), Mortal Kombat monologues, Adventure(s) with Mark Brown's lid-popping animation, Double Dagger feat. Blue Leader/Ed Schrader, Nuclear Power Pants in green shark skulls, Wham City theatrics and plenty of raw, unfiltered BO - it was like Whartscape with AC, bouncers and $7 Stellas. Probably the best act I hadn't seen before was Denny from Smart Growth , who has transformed his sets lately from drumming over Phil Collins needle drops to rocking the crowd Girl Talk style; no mike, just [...]

You heard about it a few months back , and this weekend the Bmore Round Robin is all up in our NYC kitchen. Here's the rub: Friday's Eyes Night includes Beach House, Jana Hunter, Wzt Hearts, Nautical Almanac, Lexie Mountain Boys, and more, and puts the focus on "a mixture of folk, noise, theatrics, improvisation-- music that is spiritual, dreamy etc." Saturday's Feet Night brings music that you dance, thrash, or otherwise move around to and includes the Death Set, Double Dagger, Videohippos, Future Islands, Adventure and Deacon [...]
