I know that Hallowe'en is (a) not till Sunday and (b) ridiculous, it is meant to be for kids, but instead turns into an excuse to dress up as a slutty nurse when you should know better, but it gives me an excuse to round up some vaguely spooky themed music and watch scary films, so whatever. Since you are likely to be doing all your partying before Sunday (and if you want suggestions for something to do, why not peek at the gig guide ?) we figured we'd post early too with some songs to soundtrack your [...]

I was very late to the party with this band. In fact, by the time I got into Aereogramme they were just about to call it a day. My first Aereogramme gig was their last, and I was left with a feeling of regret that I hadn't caught on sooner. Delving into their back catalogue from there threw up more and more reasons to fall in love with the band, and in a short time I went from being ambivalent to fully converted. Aereogramme's Craig B and Iain Cook are back making music together now after some time [...]

Iain Cook and Craig B., former members of Glasgow alternative/post-rock band Aereogramme have formed another band, called The Unwinding Hours. To merely call their music beautiful, fragile, melodic, passionate and heart-wrenching wouldn't even begin to scratch the surface. TDOA writer Amy attempts to unfold the beautiful origami of The Unwinding Hours. TDOA: What do you think makes your music different than Aerogramme? Clearly different sound, but what makes it fundamentally different? Craig: I think The Unwinding Hours aren't that far removed from Aereogramme's last album "My Heart Has [...]
1. Magic Kids I'm not entirely convinced the Magic Kids are for real. The group's debut, Memphis, due in stores in late August, sounds like an obscure gem put out by a California high school glee club in 1974. Looking for influences? Try The Beach Boys, The Hollies, The Partridge Family, and The Turtles. DOWNLOAD: Magic Kids - "Summer" 2. I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House Alex from In Music We Trust has been singing this [...]

....it's 1am and you've got to get up for work at 6am yet you find yourself engrossed in a programme about building fucking pyramids. An hour of my life i may never get back. But at least i know how to build a pyramid now. That should come in handy in Maryhill. Seriously, head on over to YouTube and watch the rest of the programme. Get involved. MP3: Radiohead - Pyramid Song [...]

Why isn't this band's awesomeness more known?! Hey, didn't write the rest of these songs I made them up as I went along Not bad for the unplanned The greatest mistake I have ( A Meaningful Existence by Aereogramme ) Filed under: cherry treats , musics
Tonight, Chemikal Underground Records celebrates its 15th birthday with a gig at the ABC in Glasgow. Playing at the talent crammed gig are Lord Cut Glass, Emma Pollock, Adrian Crowley, Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat, The Unwinding Hours, Zoey Van Goey and topped off by The Phantom Band. It'd be fair comment to say that i'm pretty devastated that i can't make the gig tonight but i'll celebrate Chemikal in my own little way. Chemikal Underground came about when Scottish indie band The Delgados decided to buck against the trend. Instead of trying to get themselves signed to [...]

these songs? immitation, not necessarily the sincerest form of flattery. perhapsperhapsperha ps. electronick headfuckery versus metal headfuckery. bernard shakey versus the fearless freaks. hair versus beards. are we not men? versus why does my heart feel so bad? boys versus girls. can you tell what it is yet... aphex twin : come to daddy dillinger escape plan : come [...]

Indie-electro trio Union of Knives this week revealed that they had split up, and with the announcement came the now obligatory goodbye statement. Sometimes a band's last words are witty, more often they're as bitter as a lemon marinated in vinegar. We've compiled a dozen of the best break-up speeches by Scottish groups, starting with the most recent. Will the last to leave please switch off the lights? UNION OF KNIVES (January 2010) Craig Grant (singer): [...]

monotonix : madness. sheer fucking madness. like dr teeth and the electric mayhem came to town for one night only and sexually molested each and every one of us with a deluge of sweat and curlycurlyhairs and and monstrous riff skuzz and sports socks and burt reynolds mustaches and and and frank zappa hair and restless unsettled percussive buggery and the euphoria of wearing nothing but tiny shorts, showing a bit too much ball sac and generally louping all over the bloody place. a lightning bolt with tunes? a three man david yow. the only two mentalists who pull of this [...]

The beautiful music of The Unwinding Hours will almost certainly get those who know their history feeling a bit nostalgic for Aereogramme. It will be intriguing to see what kind of profile Chemikal Underground's latest signing will attract outside of Scotland since Aerogramme, who released the last of their four albums in early 2007, enjoyed a cult following during a nine-year career that existed almost entirely outside the digital age as we know it. Their glory days in the late 90s/early 00s remind me of a time when, if I fell in love with [...]

This is a special Halloween mixtape, feel free to download it if you want. I threw it together this afternoon in the midst of a hangover. Apologies for the quality of the track "Dragula". The bitrate was really low and i only realised halfway through the mix. I would have left the track out if i'd known but i recorded the mix all in one go and made the mistake of not checking the quality of the tracks first. Like i said i was hungover and it was a last minute thing. I just had a quick browse through some [...]
Good God, how I loved the Scottish band Aereogramme and I feel very, very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see them once back in 2003. They never made it through Ohio on their farewell tour in 2007 and while bands like The Twilight Sad have helped fill the void for me, nothing will top Aereogramme in their prime. The good great news is that Aereogramme's Craig B (vocals/guitar) and Iain Cook (guitar/programming) seem to be in the infancy of a new project - The Unwinding [...]
