It's February, 1942. US Navy Monitors have just tracked a Japanese submarine skulking just outside of San Francisco. A few nights later, a Japanese submarine surfaces off the coast of Santa Barbara and fires a few shells at an oil storage facility. With the memories of Pearl Harbor from last December still fresh, the threat of a Japanese invasion is palpable. Enter Lt. Gen. John L. De Witt, head of Western Defense Command. He is tasked with the daunting order to implement 'passive defense measures' for all vital installations along the Pacific coast. Executing such an order [...]

The first book I have read from my New Year reading list is Never Eat Shredded Wheat , which is all about the geography of the UK. As the author described various features, like oxbow lakes, moraines, cliffs and so on, I looked them up on Google Maps (because aerial photography is great). So here are some screenshots of fantastic British landscapes from Google Maps - I didn't keep a record of where these all are, but if you want to guess, leave a comment.
Tomorrow, Kate Bush will be releasing the album 50 Words For Snow . Of course, she already had an album release earlier this year , but this album will be the first LP of completely new studio material since 20052s Aerial . "Wild Man" is the first track to drop from the album, and I'm loving the wintery feel of this song. Yeah, maybe I get that because of the vibe implied by the title of this album, but I really feel like playing this song is making the room I'm in colder. I think [...]
I am such a fickle fucker some times, for ages I turned up my nose at Aerials Up for no reason other than they seemed to get a lot of gigs supporting Snow Patrol. What makes me even more stupid is that I actually really like the 'Patrol, which I guess loses me several indie street cred points, but fuck it I don't care. Thankfully though, my stubbornness was worn down and I hold my hands up and admit that Aerials Up are a great fucking band, with some of the most catchy pop songs that I have heard [...]
Sebastian Arnström from Aerial calls himself Simian Ghost as a solo artist. And in the end of last year he released the debut album "Infinite Traffic Everywhere". He creates a really nice sound and pleasant atmosphere where electronica meets lush acoustic guitars in songs where he's experimenting as well as hooking you up with pop melodies. A great album. You can find Simian Ghost on Myspace or on Facebook and you can listen to the album on Simian Ghost's site or on Spotify . [...]
Back in the dark, dim mists of time (oh ok then, April ), I mused away on some bad reviews Pitchfork had given two artists - Freelance Whales and The Kissaway Trail . The former had released one of my favourite records of the year , and the latter had piqued my curiosity thanks to a little (or rather quite long) tune named "SDP". Which, I have been reliably informed, is not about David Owen's lot. So, fast forwarding [...]
When I heard this track the other day "finally" was the shout as I'd found something worth listening to in my inbox. After wading through endless number of remixes and reggae bands I was happy to hear this track from Swedish indie band Aerial. Aerial have stated their influences amongst others as Pavement, Animal Collective and The Flaming Lips. I think they've got a bit of The Cribs about them and basically just aren't like the other pap I have to wade through. Jump to the top of the queue Aerial, you're on next... [...]

Take Down Your Aerials
If you've been around Dalston's Gillet Square recently, you may well have noticed something has got the air in in the regular vagrant's hangout stirred. In one of those shacks there's something pretty special going down. Something people are calling NTS.

[APRESENTA] AERIALS UP - Stay Awake

Introducing: Aerial – Vacant Dreamers
I'm not sure what I expected when I first heard Aerial. The band hails from Sweden, and - based on my readings of Chuck Klosterman and general knowledge of music - I expected more of a sludge metal sound than their melodic post-rock. Not that I'm complaining; the band's sound is right in my wheelhouse. [...]

Aerial - Vacant dreamers
Quite possibly my favorite track off of "Put it this way in headlines" . An appropriately 90s-style video for a very 90s sounding track; exactly the sort of thing I'd used to stay up to watch for on "120 Minutes" way back when.
