Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass was easily one of the best hip-hop releases of the year. The Def Jux MC suprised everyone by teaming up with John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats even. It sounds like Aesop and John may have even more in the works for us... MOKB : Hey Aesop, what are you working on or have you been working on? What can we expect in 2008? Aesop Rock : [...]
Greetings, Jeff Weiss here again, filling in while Kevin re-enacts the classic film, The Muppets Take Manhattan. As of this morning, he has already stopped three muggings, disrupted two Broadway musicals with what patrons described as "boorish, drunken" behavior, and beaten up several Williamsburg residents for being a bit too hirsute for their own good. Rumor has it, Bloomberg is preparing him a medal of honor. So you're probably thinking, when did So Much Silence become a Def Jux fan-boy blog? Good question. But a wrong-headed one as [...]

MP3 : None Shall Pass Similar to Atmosphere finding pop-punk fans, Aesop Rock's buddying up with suburbanites most favored pastimes (video games, cartoons) without much edge were prolly big points in indie-raps ability to make fiscal ends meet, but also allowed most critics to convince themselves that Paul Wall, and Cam'ron were more avant-garde than those had been championed as the Bukowskis and Shoepenhaurs of their genre. Thats how I took "Fast Cars, Daggers, and Knives", Aesop's last ep, and to a lesser extent "Bazooka Tooth". He became a middle class [...]

This is the B-side to Aesop Rock 's Coffee 12 inch ( iTunes / emusic ), which features The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle. Kill the television. Aesop Rock - Citronella (mp3)

This is going to end up being a pretty great year for Definitive Jux . It wasn't enough that El-P came strong with I'll Sleep When You're Dead (which, if not for the National's Boxer would be my favorite album so far this year), but Aesop Rock is set to release None Shall Pass on Aug. 28. The label's two leading men putting out records in the same year? Yeah, that's good timing. Citronella is the B-side to the single for Coffee , which, as you may [...]

I'm hesitant to file Aesop Rock under "rap" because I've learned that you're statistically less likely to listen to it if I do (shame on you). That said, he does rap...but his music draws on influences ranging from art pop to beatnik jazz to first-wave electro and so on. Just depends at what moment you catch him. The only constant is Aesop's dizzying flow and fertile narratives. These two tracks will give you a taste of how his work has evolved over time: "Basic Cable" comes from his first label-released album and "None Shall Pass" is [...]

I have always loved the sneering, melodramtic, intelligent, eclectic and urgent style and sound Aesop Rock has brought to the underground/college hip-hop scene. August 28th marks the release of his fourth album, None Shall Pass from Definitive Jux . You gotta put it on your must buy list because what other rapper is going to bring in John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats to bust out a verse?! Aesop Rock's MySpace [...]
Aesop Rock 's forthcoming album, None Shall Pass , is out on August 28th, and there will be a tour this fall in support of Black Moth Super Rainbow, The Octopus Project, and others. Here's the immediately addicting title track: Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass (mp3)

Mark your calendars: October 13, Aesop Rock is hitting the Clubhouse in Tempe, the same spot fellow Definitive Jux labelmate El-P just played in May. Aesop's forthcoming LP, None Shall Pass, drops Aug. 28. A guest spot from John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats should be worth the price of admission alone, but you know Aesop is coming with so much more. I've only seen him at last year's Pitchfork Festival, and I was about two football fields away, so this is rising on my list of concert priorities. October. Damn, [...]
Here's the electronic press kit for Aesop Rock 's upcoming None Shall Pass LP, due out August 28 on Def Jux . Coming at you straight from Dick Fishburgh 's parents' basement, apparently, where we learn that Aesop Rock cheats on his wife every chance he gets, and his new album sounds like, "Mozart. At the circus. On acid." mp3: Aesop Rock None Shall Pass The Knife vs. Aesop Rock [...]

Been a busy week as ever here in my psychotic realm Despite this photo, it doesn't truly tell the story... There were also the usual barely veiled death threats, charity art auctions, bus & train riding, kilt wearing & scotch guzzling, way way too late nights, horrendous hangovers, hip hop fashion fiascos and underwear mayhem, fireworks and dancing on top of trucks, etc I'd go into greater detail...but it's all so insular, incriminating and really, who has time ... MP3: AESOP ROCK "None Shall Pass" ( Pitchfork ) I'm quite sure how their relationship even formed, but the bond between Definitive Jux and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has grown even stronger with the new free and downloadable promo album Definitive Swim . The album features this Aesop Rock track, as well as cuts from Mr. Lif and Cannibal Ox, Cage, and El-P. See also: definitivejux.net/jukies/aesop _rock [...]
Pitchfork media posted a new track from Aesop Rocks new album None Shall Pass . I've been thirsting for something new and exciting in hip hop in 2007 and this might be it. At least till MF Doom and Ghostface release that album (this month?). The new track is the title track from the album and hints towards something spectacular. It features frequent Aesop Rock collaborator Blockhead on the beat which fills in perfectly. Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass The new [...]
It seems Def Jux is a little jealous of Stones Throw Records collaborations with animated panic-spreading geniuses Adult Swim so they decided to get on the free mixtape action too. Its called Definitive Swim and features tracks from Def Jukies Aesop Rock, Cage, Mr. Lif, Rob Sonic, El-P amongst others. You can download the album as a zip with the artwork and all. I know the Aesop and El-P tracks are new as theyre from their forthcoming album. Before you get it though, have a look at the tracklisting and listen to a few of the tunes below. They also [...]

Day 2 Liars : One of my favorite bands for the past couple years. Amazing live show (0) . Catch them or you will regret it. Liars-Let's Not Wrestle Mt. Aesop Rock-Save Yourself (3) Mr. Lif-The Fries (2) Mission of Burma : Post punk legends, these guys are still kicking out awesome music well [...]
