Today's featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is None Shall Pass by Aesop Rock from the 2007 album None Shall Pass on Definitive Jux . Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass ( [...]
Tuesday morning? Ugh. Let's be honest here: working sucks. There is not point in dredging that up every week. We all wish we didn't have to wor...

spent the weekend in michigan for a wedding & on the way home yesterday i was browsing through this weekend's issue of the reader & noticed that i missed a lot more going on in chicago than i thought... i knew aesop rock was playing the metro on thursday & rilo kiley were at the riv on saturday, but there were also some weekend performances that caught me by surprise... erykah badu was at crobar thursday night (crobar?), friday night saw bill callahan at the lakeshore theater, [...]

Each week we take a listen to some of the top songs from elbows, review them and then give our selection of alternative tracks that we believe should be getting more recognition Aesop Rock "Citronella" We have been raving about the density and overall impeccable quality of this album here at quarterlife and I must say I am surprised to see a song off of the album on top of the blogs that is not "None Shall Pass" or "Back to Pluto". It speaks for well for [...]
The Black Angels Since we began adding fresh MP3s to the site each week, courtesy of a web app called Peel, I've been amazed at the amount of great stuff out there that bands just happiily post for the world to hear and download. Here's my top ten faves from August in no particular order: New Young [...]

Greetings, Jeff Weiss here again, filling in while Kevin re-enacts the classic film, The Muppets Take Manhattan. As of this morning, he has already stopped three muggings, disrupted two Broadway musicals with what patrons described as "boorish, drunken" behavior, and beaten up several Williamsburg residents for being a bit too hirsute for their own good. Rumor has it, Bloomberg is preparing him a medal of honor. So you're probably thinking, when did So Much Silence become a Def Jux fan-boy blog? Good question. But a wrong-headed one as [...]

T his is shaping up to be a great week for Def Jux recording artist Aesop Rock . Yesterday he got word that his new album, None Shall Pass , has broken into the Billboard top 50. Today (1pm PST) he is set to appear on KEXP in a live in-studio performance. There's a reason he's doing so well; this new album has a sense of thoughtful urgency and complexity that is sometimes [...]

The last two weeks worth of new releases seem to have been more for the niche market. There have been very few big names. However, a few gems snuck in there. I will let you listen to some songs off of the new albums and sort out which are worth buying. Things pick up again next week, so I'll see you then. Enjoy! August 28th : Aesop Rock - Citronella Jamie T - So Lonely Is The Ballad New Young Pony Club - The [...]

So I wanted to do a post about one of my favorite MC's and also do a nice lil' bsides (hard to find) post. So below Aesop Rock, a great MC and bsides collector: So here are a few harder to find tracks from Mr. Aesop Rock. Aesop Rock has a voice that sounds like Tom Wait's been gargling hot asphalt (tm Patton Oswalt). His rhymes are complicated, poetic and original. Check them out and then check out the link to buy his new album, I think its his best [...]
EAR FARM's Three for Free: three EF approved, free and legal MP3s posted each week. This week - hip hop. Click on the artist name to go to their site, click on the song name to listen to the song. Listen: Aesop Rock - "Citronella" Copperpot - "Art of Rap" Common Market - "Succor MCs"

I'd normally be taking the holiday off, but I have appropriate music - so if music be the food of love, right on (right on). I work on what I love, I work the service on my burdens And I work till this here little flat line closes the curtains Aesop Rock - Labor from Labor Days ( amazon / emusic / itunes )
Another day, another journey into the Ameoba vortex. This afternoon, it's siren called and by decree, I was forced to drop a minimum of $50. Amoeba is going to be the only record store left in LA pretty soon, which is sad. But I'm kind of happy right now after this haul. What: EPMD-"Crossover" 12" vinyl single Price: $6.98 Why: Because no one at Rawkus ever came close to writing an anti-commercial manifesto as good as this one. Plus, the B-Side, "Brothers from Brentwood L.I." [...]

Here's some cool beats i'm enjoying at the moment. Let me know what you think! MP3: THE WASCALS - CLASS CLOWN Info: Find on "Greatest Hits" Released: 19/06/2007 Label: Traffic More: Video [...]

I realized this morning there were some albums I had been forgetting to pick up and decided to use my emusic downloads to do so. This turne dout to be a wise decision, here is a sampling of the spoils of my decision [mp3] Aesop Rock - No City | Buy at insound One of those rappers you're allowed to like I'm told....but seriously, this is a good record in spots, a great in others, and still a not-so-great in others. Buy selectively if you're into that. [...]
Who crams words into a sentence better than this guy? There's only a few in his league. It's Aesop Rock, back with another canon of poetic genius on his new album None Shall Pass. Some have criticized his brilliant ability...

MP3 : None Shall Pass Similar to Atmosphere finding pop-punk fans, Aesop Rock's buddying up with suburbanites most favored pastimes (video games, cartoons) without much edge were prolly big points in indie-raps ability to make fiscal ends meet, but also allowed most critics to convince themselves that Paul Wall, and Cam'ron were more avant-garde than those had been championed as the Bukowskis and Shoepenhaurs of their genre. Thats how I took "Fast Cars, Daggers, and Knives", Aesop's last ep, and to a lesser extent "Bazooka Tooth". He became a middle class [...]

After one of the largest album release weeks of the year, I was kind of hoping to not have the same thing happen for the second consecutive week in a row. As you can see though, we were not let off the hook with this week's releases either. Not as many high-profile albums with this bunch, but still more than enough goodies to wet your appetite for something new. If there's one album this week that I can highly recommend, it would certainly be the US release of New Young Pony Club's Fantastic [...]

I'm going to apologize in advance for the length of this review. As you should already know, Metroid 3 is consuming my life, but I've been looking forward to posting some Aesop Rock tracks since I got my hands on it last week. Before "None Shall Pass" I'd never heard anything by this white-hot hip-hop artist, and I must say, he's the answer to my prayers. My prayers for a new Deltron 3030 album, anyway. These rhymes, beats, scratches and overall tone are all quite reminiscent of that iconic album , which is [...]
