However it leaked, it's up on the Definitive Jux label site now. Finally, we have a sneak peak of the first official Weathermen album, providing you call their 2003 release The Conspiracy what it truly is: a mixtape. The album, which has had the working title The New Left for quite some time now, is expected out this year on Definitive Jux . MP3: The Weathermen - "Reports of a Possible Kidnapping" Founder of the group, Cage has a new album coming out [...]

"Report's of A Possible Kidnapping Ft. Aesop Rock, El-P, Cage

Rjd2 is one badass dude, he released Deadringer in 2002 (one of my favorite albums of all time), and roughly one year later he released this ten track gem otherwise known as The Horror EP. Don't get me wrong, Deadringer is a multi-level musical masterpiece but I think The Horror EP is a little better. This EP has ten top tier tracks, revisits some of the best moments of Deadringer and further more, it features some of Rj's best beats. I feel as though if this was [...]
Cardboard City Micro Mix Vol 1:

Happy Record Store Day ! So what's going on in your neighborhood? Here in the bay we've got Amoeba Records hosting Kylee of Loquat at 2pm, Kelley Stoltz at 3pm, John Vanderslice's DJ Set at 4pm, and Aesop Rock's DJ set at 5pm. Up at the Rasputin Berkley , Silversun Pickups play at 4pm and Mr. Loveless play Rasputin Concord at 5pm. Oh and here's my favorite quote on Record Store Day by Gavin [...]
Today is the second annual Record Store Day. Stores across the country are holding huge sales, giveaways and special in-store entertainment to encourage people to give iTunes a day off and buy some physical music (Remember? CDs? Vinyl?). In honor of Record Store Day, a number of artists are releasing exclusive special edition singles and EPs. Tom Waits, who is releasing an exclusive limited edition 7” single, explained his appreciation of record stores thusly: "The record store is the livery stable where I can tie up, feed and groom my ears." Well said. [...]
A few weeks ago, I interviewed Illogic for a feature in the Alive . He spliced footage of this interview with footie of his release parties in Dayton and Columbus for this video thats circulating the internet. Illogic is mad eloquent. I am mad hung-over. I am not the only weird-o eccentric writerdood that Illogic is circulating the net with currently. Hip Hop DX is streaming the rmx of Diabolical Fun that features longtime penpal's Slug, Aesop Rock & Columbus rapper Zero Star. Listen to the remix here-> Hip Hop DX [...]

Hearing this track takes me back to the " Hold Mine " days. There is nothing like hearing Illogic, Aesop Rock & Slug together again. As the homie Shake said over at 2Dopeboyz , it would be incredible for Blueprint and Eyedea to jump on the wagon for an Orphanage reunion. This track is pretty much lights out on every verse. Zerostar is an emcee from Ohio who is an artist on Weightless Recordings . He spits a raw verse, and I wouldn't be suprised to be hearing big things from him in the future. [...]

Kevin Elliott tells me that I too often sleep on Columbus hip-hop. Kevin Elliott is usually right about these matters. Therefore, here's the latest cut from Buckeye rhymer, Illogic, with guest spots from Slug, Aesop Rock, and a guy named Zero Star. It's a fun song, though I'm not sure if it qualifies as "diabolic." To be diabolic, one has to have a mustache capable of being twirled. I've always liked Illogic, yet have never before admitted it publicly. Henceforth... Via 2 Dope Boyz Download: [...]
Illogic's longtime friend Aesop Rock recording a verse @ 3 Am for a remix of the Illogic song "Diabolical Fun"
We still get all giggly about the fact that something like Definitive Jux has been able to maintain such an interesting space in the pop cultural landscape. The sort-of-avant/indie/left field hip hop label has been seriously putting the original ideals and tenets of early hip hop back into their part of the game since way back before Y2K became the greatest meme of last century (okay, 1999). And now, the kids are taking you back back back with a new label compilation called Time Travel (Vol. 1) , out April 14. The disc will feature the likes [...]
Hey there dear readers. Do you feel neglected? I know I haven't posted a new Snobcast in what seems like forever. I know you're all salivating for that Snobby goodness. Maybe I haven't posted a new Snobcast because I had such a good response from last month's RCRD LBL Snobcast that I chose to keep it featured. That reasoning would make sense but really I was just so caught up getting ready for SXSW that I had no time for Snobcasting. However, now I'm pleased to unveil my SXSW '09 Snobcast. So sit back, hit play, and I'll walk you [...]

Prolific hip hopsters Doseone and Jel have dusted off their Themselves project and created a new mixtape, entitled theFREEhoudini . As the title sort of suggests, it’s a free download (although there is a CD version, too. More on that in a sec). But what would a mixtape be without guests? Nothing, that’s what. So it’s lucky theFREEhoudini is packed full of them. Pretty much anyone you could name from the Anticon family is in there, including a very briefly reformed cLOUDEAD, as well as Buck 65, Aesop Rock, Busdriver, Lionesque, Slug Of Atmosphere, D-Styles, DJ Baku, [...]

This was posted by Odd Nosdam at soleone.org Anticon is proud to present the newest addition to the Themselves catalog, a 39-minute-long free album of sorts, theFREEhoudini. Featuring guest appearances from Buck 65, Aesop Rock, Busdriver, Lionesque, Slug of Atmosphere, D-Styles, Pedestrian, Sole, Serengeti, and Yoni Wolf and Odd Nosdam as cLOUDDEAD (not to mention the whole entire mixtape being mixed down by Nosdam as well), theFREEhoudini serves as Doseone and Jel's return, posse record that never was, and contribution to [...]

Hey folks - Aoife here again. As I type, it's late Sunday night/early Monday morning and Niall is running around the flat packing for SXSW. Bless him, he's been RSVPing to parties all weekend. My heart bleeds for him, it really does. After a bit of a delay, our March podcast is ready. Hope you enjoy it. Podcast #24 -Tracklisting Marina and The Diamonds - Mowgli's Road Flying Lotus - Tea Leaf Dancer (Low Limit Remix) [...]
I know I shouldn't be writing about this. You know I shouldn't be writing about this. But I am. This song is a mashup taken from Illinoize by Montreal-based producer Tor which largely unsuccessfully hammers together Sujfan Stevens tracks with the likes of Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), C.L. Smooth, Outkast, Brother Ali, and Grand Puba. I know, I know. Most of it is garbage but this song is worthy. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - Star of Wonder / None Shall Pass (f. Aesop Rock) More info [...]
Part of the drawback of this blogzine being a 100% D.I.Y. effort, is that it’s hard to find people willing to work/write for the same amount that I make. Which is pretty much nothing after the hosting bills are paid,

With all the ice and polar bears, I guess things move a little slower in Canada. No, actually Illinoize is a free remix album consisting of tracks from all of Sufjan Steven's albums. It was put together by Montreal-based producer Tor . It combines Stevens with Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), C.L. Smooth, Outkast, Brother Ali and Grand Puba. Download the entire remix album in a .zip (71 MBs) Tracklist: [...]
