Block x Blog was a night full of music, art, culture, and video games - a fun-filled adventure for all who came to America's Backyard, The Green Room, and Revolution Live (the stage venues). The festival kicked off at America's Backyard, where concert goers were handed a strategy guide at the door with approximate set times of bands performing. Inside, Black Locust Society had setup a life-like video game. The music started around 6:30pm, with The Politix, a hip-hop band from Miami, FL. Next on stage was Lavola, an indie rock band that has a violinist in the mix. [...]
If you are looking for some good music tonight, the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery in Boca Raton is the place to be. Jimkata is an electro-rock four piece from Ithaca, NY and kicked off 2013 with a sold out NYE hometown show followed by a five-night Colorado run. Recent traction stemming from the rise [...]

Last night's victory by the Miami Heat was like if the Evil Empire in "Star Wars" had prevailed over Luke Skywalker and entire fleet of Jedi Knights. Evil prevailed last night. I won't acknowledge Lebron's victory as world champions this year. I'm going to be a hater. This year was a shortened strike season that saw the Bulls limp out of the playoffs due to Derrick Rose being sidelined. A lot of dominoes fell in order for the Heat get to where they were. Had CP3 ended up playing with the other LA team, things could've [...]

Happy Thursday, everyone! I heard this song recently thanks to Hector and I have to say it's been on my mind for a few days. I can't stop thinking about it, playing it, listening to it, and smiling about it. I decided to wait until Thursday to post about it because I don't think this is a Friday night banger, but I definitely want you guys to understand how much it resonates after the first listen. The thing about Friday night songs is that they're always fun and they're always part of a memory. But the downside is that sometimes [...]
Afrobeta : Do You Party? - Video

Miami's avant-dance duo Afrobeta's unique songs transcend genre classifications — frontwoman Cuci Amador's rapid-fire delivery, combined with Tony Smurphio's funky synths and head-bopping bass lines are sure to keep audiences moving playing whichever of their tracks. As a followup to 20112s critically acclaimed Under the Streets, the duo have put out a new (free) mixtape, Wig Party, as a "thank you" to their fans. Well, thank YOU, Afrobeta! Download it here! To get you in the mood, listen and download "Love Is Magic (DiscoTech Extended Remix)" below. It's blaring out my speakers [...]

Miami's avant-dance duo Afrobeta have been tearing up dance floors for years, and they have made a splash yet again with the release of their latest mix tape, Wig Party . Cuci Amador and Tony "Smurphio" Laurencio formed Afrobeta in 2006 as a way to share their mutual love of songwriting and dancing till 5 a.m. Wig Party is available to download for free on Afrobeta's Facebook , as a "thank you" to their much-loved fans. The release [...]

Miami's Afrobeta are a stunningly sexy electro pop act that creates songs as seductive as a South Beach night. With an eye on the dance floor and a sound that's so poptastic it's about ready to explode Afrobeta's album, Under The Streets, is destined to be anywhere but underground. With sparkly synths, Miami-like beats, well-polished production and absolutely massive songs, Under The Streets is a stellar debut that's as slick as its cover would seem to indicate. As for their new EP, Wig Party it's packed to the gills with [...]
This month the Fillmore's Honeymoon series was well received by Miami, unlike some of the past months when the event may gather a crowd of a couple hundred or even sparser, this night not a spare ticket was to be found, and for good reason. With a line down the sidewalk (nothing rivaling Skrillex's, but [...]
The lineup for one of the nation's biggest electronic music festival, Miami's annual Ultra Music Festival, was just announced late last week right before Christmas. This is an absolutely stacked affair and I don't recommend anyone skip on this if they like the untz. The fest returns to Miami's downtown Bayfront Park area and will [...]

It's a bad sign when a band's debut album is torn in two directions. It tells the listener that the group doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Afrobeta 's debut, Under the Streets, does not work well for two reasons. The first one is that the disc is split between traditional dance-pop tunes and experimental grooves. But secondly, and what's worse, is that that everything sounds mailed-in. Each one of these wanna-be club anthems brings nothing new to the table. They're full of rhythms we've heard a thousand times before, by hundreds of [...]

Greatness separates itself from good this week. While The Horrors and Afrobeta shine, the latest from Scattered Trees has tour dates sold out for most of the current dates on their tour. Scattered Trees earns the great spotlight thanks to the release of Sympathy , which comes via Roll Call Records/EMI as the group's sophomore album. The group's tour reaches to the end of September with The Alternate Routes and Paul Dempsey opening up. From London, the five-man band of The Horrors emerge with Skying. Their [...]
