So yeah. What a stupidly awful song right? Not only is this a terrific insult to early Against Me! fans (admittedly the worst kind of fans) but it's also an over-produced pile of rubbish that tries really hard to be anthemic but ends up sounding like a billion dollar mess inside of a tin can. Tom Gabel! What's up with you lately? Like the last part of this decade? Why you gotta take a dump on every fan you ever had in the crappy lyrics to this crappy song? I know you're going to say that you've [...]

epicenter: n: point on the Earth's surface that is directly above the focus, the point where an earthquake originates. It's about one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday just outside of Los Angeles (Fontana, CA, to be exact). It's over 100 degrees, easily. Cars are backed up all along I-15 as the heat just bounces off their metal plates and onto our faces. We will stop for ice, water, and other cold things in the midst of everything, but not too far away, something wild is brewing. Epicenter Festival 2010 is [...]

How was your weekend? Thanks to everybody who tweeted about how cool the Abbot Kinney Festival was — suffice to say it was substantially cooler than the 109-degree temperatures Saturday and Sunday at the Epicenter Festival in Fontana. Or, "Funtana," as Bad Religion's Jay Bentley called it. I covered Epicenter for SPIN.com, witnessing a strong show by Eminem, a comeback set by Bush, a turn in the cozy VIP tent from DMX [pictured] and some good old-school punk courtesy of Bad Religion and Against Me! Oh, and some other stuff too. See my wrap-up on [...]
Another great live video before we head out for the weekend. This one features Against Me! playing live and acoustic as a full band at Banquet Records in the UK. We caught the band play with the same set-up at Webster Hall Studio earlier this year and they were spot on playing a lot of classics along with the new. The show was filmed by Everything Sucks TV .

Silversun Pickups - photography by Benjamin Hoste Silversun Pickups wrapped up their national tour with tour mates Against Me and Los Angeles locals The Henry Clay People in August at the Greek Theatre. Things really pick up on the music front this week. Here are my picks: KISS, Molson Ampitheatre, Sep 10th Sure it may not be the high brow indie stuff you'll get at Vampire Weekend earlier in the week, but it's going to be a hell of a lot more fun. KISS' website Against Me! Against Me! w. The Flatliners, Sound Academy, Sep 11th The Florida band proves yet again that you can be catchy and

Local band Whitman had the opportunity many fought for, opening up for Jersey's Titus Andronicus outside Emos on Wednesday night. Another Austin band, Yellow Fever , filled up the middle slot, giving us all a mixed taste on the warm evening. Whitman took to the stage fueled by the energy of singer/guitarist Ram Vela. He jumped about the stage, flinging his guitar about as the band blasted through their new song "Teenage Daydreams." The new song differed in [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News After being on the road with Against Me !, Franz Nicolay headed to the studio to work on his solo effort, 'Luck and Courage.' So when the former Hold Steady keyboardist shared some of the new material with a group of music-loving Brooklynites at a one-off gig for local concert series Backyard Brunch Sessions in Williamsburg Sunday afternoon, he warned the crowd about being a little rusty. "I haven't played shows in a couple [...]

Well hello there commoners. We at Backseat Sandbar have not been around to posting our Forecastle 2010 Day 3 recap since we've been out yachting 'round the world. So much scenery to take in, and let me tell you the one thing we learned from yachting around this globe of ours. There is a lot of water. There you go, a lesson you can live by. But seriously folks... None of that ever happened. I've just been a lazy office worker that can't post at work. So there. But, also, so here! [...]

I was out of town for the Silversun Pickups' hometown show Friday night at the Greek, cursing the gods for scheduling it the same weekend as Lollapalooza. I have, however, lived vicariously through the Times' review , and, even while on vacation, coerced little elves into posting this gallery of Debi Del Grande's photographs from the night. Lollapalooza 2010. You wake up. Every muscle in your body hurts, even the ones you didn't know existed. The excitement of day one has all been replaced with a feeling of sheer exhaustion. "Ugh... two more days of this," you think as you contemplate the best method of getting your legs working again. Your mind then quickly focuses on which bands can be skipped in favor of an extra hour of sleep. But then you get up. A cool shower washes off all the stale sweat you chose not to get off the night before. [...]
