We are a little less than a week away from what could be the biggest case of "I never really expected it to happen" pop justice for a Swedish song in the UK since Robyn got a pair of top 10 hits, including a #1. As much as I fell in instant , unshakable love with Agnes 's disco-pop "Release Me" the moment I heard it--the moment I heard those opening strings, probably--I never really thought its UK release would result in anything other [...]

Well in recent years, the genre of music that I'd class as 'dance-pop' has been very successful. I'm talking about people like September etc, not Lady GaGa , even though you would probably actually class her style as exactly that, dance-pop. But in effect I mean mainly Europeans (seemingly all Swedish of late!) who have 'pop' style vocals - catchy and everything - but then have 'club' style production, which has led them to become huge hits. Even though a lot of pop is complete crap, I can admit to liking this dance-pop style, it doesn't do [...]

[Perspectiv] ( buy mp3s ) Ripperton and Sam K have run a pretty tight ship the past couple of years with the Perspectiv label. They've given exposure to the audible charms of their Swiss compatriots and helped push a deep, emotive flavor of techno at the same time. Family Tree II is the second full length artist sampler for the label and with any luck it will become an annual event. With no double ups from any of the artists here we get fourteen fresh tracks from the [...]
I've always made a conscious effort to keep this blog only about music, which has been pretty tough at times. However, seeing as no less than Robyn appears in the video clip below, I feel justified in posting it. The Daily Show and Sweden, politics and music in the same segment? Sigh ... The Daily Show With Jon Stewart M - Th 11p / 10c The Stockholm Syndrome [...]

Nothing better to start of the month of a great slice of scandipop. Agnes is here to stay and this is her second single from the aptly titled Dance Love Pop .

Agnès - "Love Tempo" EP Sthlmaudio (buy) If I was to tell you that "Love Tempo" EP by Agnès was his first single release on his own Sthlmaudio imprint since, well, quite a while you would say nah, you must have got it wrong, well I haven't & I was just as surprised as some of you may be. 2008 saw multiple remixes for Agnès not to mention a handful of monikers coming to light which included the shared responsibility of the all Swiss Slowhouse project, then there is his Ray Valioso guise & [...]

This week's mix is compilation of relatively new tracks from the world of tech house. We begin rather deep with Motor City Drum Ensemble and Rozzo's tracks, coalescing slowly to a proper club sound, featuring a release by Chris Carrier and a collaboration between DJ T. and Thomas Schumacher. Enjoy. Mix Motor City Drum Ensemble - Keep Rozzo - Meta001.2 Agnes - Who Cares Chris Carrier - Too High DJ T & Thomas Schumacher - Lower Instincts [...]
Uscite discografiche (13 marzo 2009) 9 "Eponymous" Agnes "Dance Love Pop" [...]

I've asked some of my favorite bloggers to hold down the fort while I'm lazing the days away on Kangaroo Island. To kick things off, I've got one of the best music bloggers I've found - Agnes of It All Started With Carbon Monoxide - to talk to us about vacation music... While A Free Man is enjoying some fun in the sun, he's asked me to share some holiday music with you. Last year in the September school holidays I went away by myself for the first time. It was nothing major, just [...]

Only an artist from Sweden what have enough unabashed love for pop music to call their album Dance Love Pop. This reality show contestant won the hearts of many Scandinavians with her brand of happy pop that her new album is climbing up the charts there. Give her a listen on your iTunes (Denmark or Sweden, that is).
Tonight was what Melodifestivalen is about . Fantastic songs...and, in general, some fantastic results. Four of my big favorite top five songs made the top five and from there the four to make it to the next level were all the ones in my top five list. Heck, even the fifth placed song of the night was one I liked and would have placed sixth. My least favorite were Next 3 's reggaeton "Esta Noche" (I think "Baby (Give Me A Try)" on their MySpace is better) and Susanne Alfvengren 's "Du [...]

This week is destined to be one of heartbreak and exhilaration. Strong buzz surrounds several of the tracks, enough so that not all the rumored top-quality tracks can qualify directly to the final even in a best case scenario. It should make for a thrilling if stressful change from the semifinal of this past Thursday. As usual, all credit for the information goes to the sites below--I serve merely as an aggregator--and any mistakes are my own; please correct them in the comments if you notice any. Release me 'Cause I'm not able to Convince myself That I'm better off without you (If there is one Swedish song on this list that I beg all of you to listen to, even if you're not a Swede pop addict like me, it's this one.) If in 2008 Ani Lorak was the queen of fierce voguing disco and Lady GaGa carved out a niche for herself with sleazy dirty disco, it's clear from its opening strings that Agnes's "Release Me" is disco whose [...]

[ Plak Records ] ( buy vinyl ) (buy mp3s tk) Chaton, founder of Plak Records, has produced serviceable if spartan grooves for Sthmlaudio Recordings and his own label since they both debuted in 2001. I find his tracks are most ear-catching when they're remixed, as they have been by Agnès ("Catch the Beat") and now Ripperton. He constructs the canvas for others to splash their ideas across, a notion bolstered by the way the artists were credited on their newest release . Chaton's Swiss countrymen Ripperton and Agnès take the [...]

Azuni - "City Look" [Sthlmaudio] (buy) When I interviewed Agnès earlier this year he mentioned that he had signed a brand new & unheard of duo to his Sthlmaudio imprint that being Azuni, but not only had he signed them, their first release was an album. Now I don't know many label owners who would release a full length album as an introduction to a new artist(s), well except for Agnès that is, which I give him credit for doing so. Azuni aka Swiss house producers, Gianni Siravo and Sven Lacoste aren't the first unknown artists to be signed by Agnès & certainly [...]
I can't say it enough: even if most of the disco and pop from Sweden usually tends to get a little too generic for you, give Agnes's "Release Me" (wisely the second single choice from Dance Love Pop and now with music video--embedded below) a try. It's classy, breezy modern disco, a string-featuring breath of fresh air with a chorus that sounds like the best day you've ever had. Pure joy in song form. The song can be purchased from all countries' iTunes music stores here , as [...]

Chaton - "+91 Ahead" (Session 1) [Plak] (buy) Chaton is Swiss producer & label owner of Plak Records (label & shop) & probably best know for his "Catch The Beat" EP which dropped last year on Agnès Sthlm Recordings label. His latest EP, "+91 Ahead" comes in two parts, the first part is from Chaton himself with (Session 1) a&b then later there will be (Session 2) with remixes from Agnès & Ripperton thus making "+91 Ahead" a strictly Swiss affair. Session 1 is a edgy techno groove that rolls along with raw - repetitive percussion, jazzy [...]
