How about those New York Football Giants, huh? The defense looked great today, Hakeem Nicks reasserted himself as the team's premiere wide receiver, Brandon Jacobs showed why the offense should be run through him…it made me very excited to see the game against Green Bay next week. I think it's going to be a good [...]
I trust you're all recovering/resting/relaxing today. Whether you welcomed 2012 with a quiet night at home alongside family and friends, or joined some raucous, drunken celebration at a house/club/bar, I'm sure it was a great time. If you must know about my night, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Considering New Years last year was probably the [...]
By now your Christmas dinner is beginning to settle, the realization that you might have to go to work tomorrow is setting in, and your significant other is happy enough with her present to swallow your load. Ah, but the holiday weekend isn't quite over yet. We've still get ten more MP3s to listen to, [...]
If anyone has high-quality rips of any Mystery Sea releases that I don't own, you should be sending them to me. My e-mail address shouldn't be too hard to find... So much has been written in these archives about my adoration (respect? love?) for the Mystery Sea label. I'm fascinated by the objective: "a small-scale [...]
This EP is excellently done, and every song except the title track is a wonderful, drone and glitch-filled pop delight. Delicate and graceful melodies slip between the cracks of digital wreckage, or sometimes emerge from the careful piling of glitch and drones. There is an arc to Mario Gonzalez's Lindsay Lohan Likes Blood EP. Gonzalez [...]
Another week has ended. If you fellas didn't get your dicks wet, well that's unfortunate. If you ladies didn't go out and hit the bars and settle for less than you deserve, I find that equally disappointing. Either way, sucks for you. Although it could be worse…you could be one of those people who doesn't [...]
Sedate but not somnolent, Baker's latest is a moving meditation on the beauty of stillness. Perhaps best known as a guitarist of the soundscape stripe, Aidan Baker opts for more traditional instrumentation, with piano, drums, and bass on Still Life, a four-song adventure that is, more often than not, beautifully realized and filled with many moments of gorgeous, imaginatively-performed music. The opening "Still Lives" develops slowly, patiently, like a dream directed by Morton Feldman; its successor, "Remembered Time", offers more of the same but possesses an even deeper beauty. "Refuge...

Another day, another Swan Fungus reader finds their way into my presence. I promise one of these times if you approach me I won't act like I'm having a panic attack. It's just…in my mind you're all so mentally disturbed. And you all carry weapons around. Sharp weapons. Seriously, what type of person reads this [...]

I'm so furious I'm willing to drive off a cliff solely to spite this half-assed excuse for music. Bandcamp: Bandcamp [...]

Aidan Baker is a prolific man - a very prolific man. Whether churning out ambient soundscapes under his own name, laying down semi-improvised droning doom epics with his main band Nadja or releasing material in collaboration with other like-minded sound artists or other fringe projects, Aidan Baker releases more material in a year than many bands or artists release in their entire careers. Unless you are a Baker completist the question that arises with each new release is 'is this an essential one?' Aidan Baker [...]

I don't think I need to introduce any regular Swan Fungus readers to Aidan Baker. His name has appeared in over a dozen blog posts over the past three years, and his solo work alone has appeared on numerous mix tapes. If you only know his ambient recordings, you need to seek out the groups with which he has recorded/performed. Especially Nadja. Toronto based musician Aidan Baker has recorded, I don't know, seventeen thousand albums. That's a lie. I'm too lazy to count them all. But he's consistently released CD-rs, LPs, CDs and MP3s for the past eight [...]

Talking of subtle Danish experimentalists , why isn't Small Things on Sundays ' sumptuously bleak Recalling (via netlabel Audio Gourmet ) lauded across their homeland & beyond? It's long overdue some recognition here, at least. Like the great Aidan Baker in a spacelock, the EP - stream in full below, along with their earlier 4AM - deals in a kind of dark weightlessness ( [...]

Those of you who like a bit of shoegazing and experimentation may wish to mark the 22nd of September in your diaries as Aidan Baker (Nadja), Simon Scott (Slowdive) & The Resonance Association are playing at Corsica Studios. Baker has released hundreds of works over the years, both musically and in literature. Scott was the drummer in the pioneering Slowdive and The Resonance Association are a duo that produce some intense and atmospheric sounds. Tickets for the show are available here for only £6.

aidan baker makes too many records. prolific, on a scale that's detrimental. christ, nadja alone's had something like sixteen releases over the past year and a half. too much fella and fellete, too much… so whilst i no longer go pokemon on them i always pick up the little square foetuses of brown card wrapped and stamped joy that is southern's latitudes series. and hot on the heels of gang gang dance's fifteen minutes of adhd jump-cuts comes this two track forty minute lump of celestial scowl; the antithesis of ggd's post-something channel hopping. y'know as an introduction [...]

Unexpected day trip alert! I drove out to Covina today to see if their IKEA had the computer desk I've been looking for since last week. It was looking like a boring early afternoon drive until I pulled off the 210-East onto North Azusa Avenue (Route-39) and noticed a small sign with an arrow pointing eastward that read, "San Dimas 4 Miles." I knew at that moment my day was going to get a lot more excellent! There were no desks at IKEA. There won't be any in the style I need for another week at any locations [...]
![Locrian – "Rain of Ashes" CD – Basses Frequences [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2286988_lg.jpg)
Locrian - "Ghost Repeater" Terence Hannum & André Foisy comprise Locrian , and Rain of Ashes comprises what, to me, is the perfect drone-disguised-as-metal document. Think: Pretty much any Nadja / Aidan Baker collab release that leans toward the noise/drone end; Tim Hecker , Dead Texan [...]
Drone heavyweights Sarah Lipstate and Aidan Baker have a spankin' new split out. The mind-numbing drones of their respective projects, Nadja and Noveller, are more ethereal than most. So, it's fate that we're finally able to hear these two side by side on one disc. Here are some excerpts from the album. Sounds pretty brutal:MP3s:Noveller- "Under the Color Cave" (Excerpt)Noveller- "White Rabbit" (
