Fat Cat's RSD13 triple teaser... Long running Brighton-based indie label Fat Cat Records have revealed details regarding three upcoming limited edition record store day releases. The Twilight Sad have combined with compatriots Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells to release a split 7" of covers featuring a piano-led version of 'Alphabet' taken from 2012's No One Can Ever Know whilst The Twilight Sad [...]

Aidan Moffat paid tribute to renowned author B.S Johnson yesterday, on what would have been the writer's 80th birthday. The Scottish musician and Arab Strap singer chose to commemorate the experimental novelist and poet by posting a spoken word recording of one of Johnson's poems, 'The Poet Holds His Future In His Hand' which just so happens to be about the author's manhood. Moffat wrote: "Today, the 5th of February 2013, would have been B. S. Johnson's [...]

When you’ve made a career of writing lyrics as openly and graphically as Aidan John Moffat, it’s difficult to pull back and attempt to build yourself a level of mystique. Certainly, he’s one of the most affable people I’ve ever interviewed, but the record I’m phoning to discuss, The Island Comes True sounds tailor-made for deep exploration. His fourth under the L. Pierre moniker, The Island Comes True is a lyricless patchwork of found sound, tape hiss and downright odd noises; opening track ‘Kab 1340’ [...]

Earlier in the week Aidan Moffat confirmed that a new album under his L. Pierre moniker would be released on January 14th 2013 via Melodic, but out of nowhere he's decided to stream the album in its entirety. For one weekend only, The Island Come True can be heard via Soundcloud. Have a listen below and let us know what you think. You can pre-order the album here .

Arab Strap man Aidan Moffat is streaming his new LP in its entirety online. Currently uploaded onto Soundcloud , the Scottish musician is only previewing the release for one weekend only. The record, entitled The Island Come True and released under the singer's L. Pierre moniker, will drop 14 January 2013 on Melodic. Hurry and stream below before it gets taken offline:

The Scottish band Frightened Rabbit did a relatively lengthy tour of Ireland over the last two weeks. Some Irish bands should take note: there's more than just Dublin, Galway, Limerick and, even though it's left off plenty of bands' schedules of late, Cork. I saw Frightened Rabbits in Cyprus Avenue [Read more]

I hate camping. I fucking hate it. You're always surrounded by midges and grass and trees and fresh air and everything else that's wrong with the world. I have twice endured festival camping in my short lifetime. One time was Connect in 2007, where, for some daft reason, we pitched the tent on a hill. When it came time to get some shut-eye (sleeping at a festival, eh? I'm wild, me...), I experienced this recurring, unsettling feeling of slowly sliding downwards headfirst every time I neared sleep. I thought we were going to career head first into the next tent [...]

At this point I probably shouldn't have to explain that Frightened Rabbit have a new EP coming out in September, but just in case you weren't aware: Frightened Rabbit have a new EP coming out in September. Cool, now that we're up to speed, we've already been graced with the EP's title track "State Hospital" and it's harrowing video , but last night on Vic Galloway's BBC Radio Scotland show he premiered another new track "Wedding Gloves" , this time featuring [...]

So, despite the usual August bollocks and the tragic lack of the Retreat! Festival from our lives this year, it seems there's really rather a lot of fun stuff happening in Edinburgh for those (like myself) who would prefer to hide from the Edinburgh Festival rather than embrace it. Places like the Queen's Hall seem to have taken a slightly surprising, yet very welcome interest in local music recently, so they have what looks like the highlight of the week to me, with the #UNRAVEL show tomorrow. I will be driving Meursault through to Glasgow for their gig [...]

Two Gallants It's been about five years since the release of Two Gallants eponymous album. Since then we haven't very much from the San Francisco oufti, but now they're back with a fourth album in the bag. As a wee a teaser they've made the first single, 'Broken Eyes', avaailable as a free download at their website . Aidan Moffat To celebrate winning the innaugural SAY Award last week, Aidan Moffat is giving away a free download of “(If You) Keep Me [...]
Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat have won the first ever Scottish Album of the Year. Their album Everything's Getting Older beat the likes of Mogwai , Rustie and Twin Atlantic to win the prize. The pair were awarded the accolade by the Scottish Music Industry Association at a event held in Glasgow Film City last night. Moffat spoke to the BBC after the event: "It was a great shortlist. The Scottish Album of the Year Award is all about introducing people [...]

Last night the first ever Scottish Album of the Year awards ceremony took place, with 10 albums up for the gong (and £20'000). With the likes of Conquering Animal Sound, Rustie and Mogwai up for the award, it was always going to be a close call, but in the end Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat walked away victorious for their magnificent album, Everything’s Getting Older . Congratulations to them, and for what appears to be a successful award ceremony/process.

I'll Be Your Mirror returned to northernmost London reach, boasting a quintessentially outré rundown which took in everything from thrash metal heralds ( Slayer ), sludge pukers ( Sleep ), sadcore progenitors ( Codeine ) and cutesy pop pairings ( Tennis and to a substantially lesser degree, the Tall Firs ). To quote pretty much every bloody band on the bill, "Thanks Barry; Deborah." For finer weekends may now be few and far between... Review: Friday, 25th May / Saturday, 26th May / [...]

Sometime [circa 2006], somewhere [likely Falkirk] a solitary tear will most probably have trickled down bristled whisker to the sound of Philophobia , the news of Arab Strap's untimely demise bungling about within churning stomach like jittering die sheltered from the perils of this world by the plastic rotunda of a Pop-O-Matic. It's not as though the band's constituents Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat have receded into periods of protracted mourning nor lengthy spells of hibernation since; it's just that they're indubitably at their best when strapped into the same voyage, sat side by side in solidarity. Thus for [...]
Presented by the fine folk from The Quietus and Rough Trade Books , Klub Gutenberg is a new night that takes place at Islington's Old Queen's Head. Celebrating music, science and literature in equal measures - last month saw Aidan Moffat perform, whilst Dr Anna Nekaris gave a lecture on the loveable yet increasingly endangered slow loris. Nice. Here's a short film from the night. Learn! About why the slow loris needs protecting. Hear! Songs old and new Aidan. Discover! More about the girlfriend from "that" infamous Arab Strap [...]
Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells album Everything’s Getting Older is a pairing of two Scottish greats, a multi-instrumentalist composer (Wells) and a heavy accented poet (Moffat). The duo will play The Grand Social in Dublin on Friday, 30th of March. Ticket are priced at €18 (including booking fee) available from Tickets.ie and Ticketmaster .
If there was a market for writing 140-character instant reviews of pop videos as they appear on music TV stations then Aidan Moffat certainly has it cornered. The former Arab Strap man has been tweeting for just over a year now, mostly late at night, mostly while claiming to be intoxicated (but with suspiciously impeccable grammar and spelling). Those who have been following him on Twitter will know that few pop stars escape his QWERTY quashings other than perhaps The Saturdays, Nicola Roberts and the love of his life, Cher Lloyd - but even she had to put [...]
