It seems Fred Armisen is leaving Saturday Night Live . In addition to two epic Kanye West performances , last night's episode also featured a super-group of indie rock stars joining Armisen on stage for what appeared to be a send-off. Armisen (who hasn't officially announced he's leaving SNL) played his rock band character Ian Rubbish, leading a band featuring two other departing SNL staffers Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis, as well as Armisen's friends Carrie Brownstein, Kim Gordon, J Mascis, Aimee Man, and Steve Jones. Watch them all play "I've Had A Lovely Night" below. [...]

Last night marked the season finale of Saturday Night Live and the final episode for several veteran cast members. Though he has yet to formally announce he's leaving the show, Fred Armisen all but confirmed his departure with an epic, heartwarming musical send-off during the final moments of tonight's episode. Armisen's punk rock alter-ego Ian Rubbish led a star-studded performance of "I've Had a Lovely Night" featuring fellow cast members Bill Hader (who's already announced his departure from the show) and Jason Sudeikis (who's also "probably" leaving), along with Armisen's longtime friends and collaborations Sleater-Kinney/Wild [...]

Off Camera is a website, magazine, television show, and podcast that is hosted by photographer/director Sam Jones. He created the show out of his passion for the long form conversational interview, and as a way to share his conversations with a myriad of artists, actors, musicians, directors, skateboarders, photographers, and writers that pique his interest. This week he interviewed singer songwriter Aimee Mann. Mann, the Boston born Grammy winner and self-described Oscar loser, was recently named to NPR’s list of the ten finest living songwriters. With surprising humor and optimism, Mann lets us in on her bumpy journey, [...]

XPN welcomes Aimee Mann and Ted Leo to World Cafe Live at The Queen tonight. After sharing a bill last fall while Mann was promoting her latest Charmer LP, the singer-songwriter and Ted Leo teamed up for a proper collaboration called #BOTH earlier this year. The pair will return to their usual roles for this tour, however, with Leo filling in the support slot and probably reprising songs from the discography of his band The Pharmacists, as well as possibly (and hopefully) previewing songs from a new album he's [...]

It began as a tale of two Twitter accounts, but now Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter Aimee Mann and hardcore-punk veteran Ted Leo (of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists) are putting the final touches on their EP as the new duo, #BOTH . The EP will feature roughly six original rock-oriented songs written by both Mann and Leo and made for a three-piece band. The release is slated for the end of August, “before either of our own individual albums come out” Leo added (hint, hint). #BOTH will be playing Los Angeles-area shows in March. [...]

This ranks up there with Ted Leo's "Bottled and Corked" video as a brilliant crossover of indie rock and internet sketch comedy. Under the guise of a recently uncovered "audition reel" for The Postal Service, we see comedian Jon Daly as "Dave from Sub Pop" sitting down with Jimmy Tamborello to find a partner for ... Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Matias Corral The story of February 2013 in music was 2003 (Sorry, Thom Yorke ). Think pieces, personal essays, reunion tours and unreleased singles all flooded the cultural landscape surrounding the Postal Service 's lone LP Give Up . It turned 10 officially on February 19, but its modern day domination kicked into gear long before that with a mere website update in late January. [...]

Kudos to the Funny of Die team for posting this hilarious video of faux Postal Service auditions in 2002. The premise is that a Sub Pop exec sits down with Jimmy Tamborello and the pair watch an assortment of musicians try out for the role that Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie fills. Moby, Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan, Aimee Mann, Foo Fighters' Nate Mendel and Weird Al Yankovic are among the musicians who hilariously try out for the project before Gibbard himself [...]

Moby's audition did not go well... As maybe you're heard, The Postal Service are back together for a 10th anniversary tour, including two shows at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. What you may not know is that Ben Gibbard was one many singer who auditioned for Jimmy Tamborello. Aimee Mann, Moby or even Duff McKagan (plus others) could've ended up in the band... of so this Funny or Die clip purports which you can watch below. [...]

The Postal Service continue to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2003 debut, Give Up , this time with a look back at their rough beginnings. Now, most recall the outfit's humble beginnings involving frontman Ben Gibbard, producer Jimmy Tamborello, and a whole lotta stamps. Not so, according to Funny or Die , who just unveiled some rare footage of early band auditions held by Sub Pop Records and Tamborello, featuring "Weird Al" Yankovic, Aimee Mann, Moby, Duff McKagan, and Tom DeLonge. It's quite provoking to see "what could have been", so check out the clip below. [...]
