I'm sorry about yesterday, but I worked the Boston Marathon and the standing and the heat got to me. My job is volunteer lunch distribution at Copley Square where the marathon ends. We put bags of chips and stuff together, pass them and sandwiches out and feed around 1000 people. The tent was quite warm in the 85° heat. Luckily it was going to become an auxiliary medical tent so they started air-conditioning at eleven, and that felt great. We had to be finished our jobs by noon, and we did. I then walked to the T at Arlington, rode [...]

Considering that the lady known as Jean Grae makes rare LA appearances for shows, it's an opportunity that every LA fan needed to come support the Chinky Eyed movement for their 10 year anniversary! So, in all honesty,.. it is fair to say that when there's an artist that can make noise in the scene, and it just so happens to be a woman, LA will be there! Plus it's not surprising that the address of 2419 N. Broadway in Lincoln Heights got so jam-packed that when Jean Grae finally arrived to do her [...]
The morning is already warm. It is 77°, but I am in the cool den which doesn't boil over until afternoon. Soon enough, though, I'm turning on the air-conditioner. This morning I went to the Thursday farmers' market. It's a small one but I managed to spend some money, not a big surprise. I bought lavender and oregano for the garden, sweet orange-vanilla soap for me, a couple of cucumbers and some cherry tomatoes, corn bread, some pulled-pork to go with it and for Miss Gracie, yogurt, banana dog biscuits. The woman from whom I bought them guaranteed their taste. [...]

AIR CONDITIONING The muggy and buggy heatwave that's recently been blazing down on us here at Mp3 Medication has made us all crave for one thing: AIR CONDITIONING. So we got together and made this mixtape. Best served with an iced beverage and propped up feet, this mix is sure to clear your head and cool you down when you need it, because that's exactly what it is; clear and cool. Download the zip file . Track listing: 1) Vanilla - Feel Like I Do [...]
The weather is just as they predicted: hot and humid. It is one time I'd wish they'd have gotten it wrong. Today, though, will be the worst of it because, by the end of the weekend, the nights will be in the high 502s for a couple of days. I'm all for that! It's so much easier living without when you have no idea what you're missing. Fans were what kept us cool. I'd stand in front of the one in our living room until my sister or my brother complained I was taking all [...]

I kind of did a double take when I first read this number. The exact breakdown of how and where tax dollars are distributed isn't all that clear of a picture for me, but $20 billion is a lot of money, any way you look at it. According to NPR , the annual military budget allotted for air conditioning in Iraq and Afghanistan totals around $20.2 billion. To put it in perspective, as NPR explains, that figure is greater than NASA's entire budget, or alternatively, it's more than a quarter of the federal education budget. I'll spare you my [...]
Friends, Invalids, Basement-dwelling agoraphobics, lend me your ears! It's time for another Sunday Mix Tape, and have I ever got "the goods" for you. You've probably been asking yourselves why I am not posting daily MP3s anymore, or why the treasures from my collector's slum have been few and far between these past few weeks. The reason is, I've been advised to watch what I post in regards to the music I often share here. Cryptic, yes, but I am not really one to test boundaries. So until further notice there might be less music than many of you click [...]
It's about this time of year when the heat starts to have odd effects on Denver's populace. The dry, still heat acts as both a soporific and an irritant. The blacktop shimmers, lending everything we see a narcotic haze, and we shuffle slowly through our days seeking nothing more than respite from the heat. We tend to linger in climate controlled environments, and those of us who do not have the luxury of climate control in our homes get inventive with our cooling methodologies: new uses and locations for ice cubes, cold showers, sneaking into private pools, [...]

Yeah, I know that the categories widget in the right side-bar says that there have already been 187 or 188 Sunday Mix Tapes, but this is number 185. I'm sure of it. Maybe the others weren't official SMTs, because maybe I didn't post them on a Sunday! Did you ever think about that, asshole? Well, think about it, then. I'm perfectly fine just sitting here and waiting for you to finish thinking. I don't have anywhere to be until tomorrow morning. Then I have to work. Ugh. I hate my life. RULES for uninitiated noobs : [...]
Clearly an AC unit is optional this summer...
Hey, in case you haven't noticed, my website broke. I don't even know if anyone will be able to read this, but have no fear, I'm trying to fix things. And by that I mean I'm crying and jerking off and submitting questions to support forums across the Internet, and waiting for some kind soul to help me. The page might be fixed at any moment, or it might never be fixed. Who the fuck knows, really? By the way, if anybody reading this knows anything about WordPress, Blogger, 1and1, and subdomains, now would be a really good [...]
by jackie nusz As I sit at work in 82 degree temperature with a broken A.C. unit, I begin to feel a lot like that already stale slice of pizza under a heat lamp leftover from lunch hour. This is what it must feel like to live in a third world country working in a sweater shop without light, hope or ventilation. Only luckily for me I have only suffered for a week and I know that soon enough the problem will be solved and the A.C. will blow a nice and [...]

Podcast Jack would say, "They are watching you!" All these Top Tens are making my head hurt! How about this week we cease with the love-fest and instead discuss things that are generally agreed upon as sucking (for a change). I never get to whine and mope and rant. Can't I have my way, just this once? Enough of the Top 10. Let's examine the Bottom 10. No "gas prices", no "Pitchfork Media", and certainly no "Radiohead". This is the real bottom 10. All those other things are just...well, they're blogging fodder for days when [...]

It's pretty warm here today, so I think I'm going to stay near the fan for as long as possible. It was similarly hot yesterday, and though I managed to walk to the cafe and back, my clothes were mostly soaked through by the time I returned to the apartment. I also did not sleep well last night due to the uncomfortable conditions. My fan is typically powerful enough to keep my room fairly cool, but the past forty-eight hours have made me long for air conditioning. Since it's Friday, I guess I'll haphazardly fake my way through [...]

More noise for ya, folks: The new Air Conditioning album comes courtesy of Load Records, and it fits right in with the other noise artists the label is home to. The band's departure from Level Plane seems to have calmed them down a bit; my thoughts after immediately starting up their ...
New podcast video tomorrow. Is really funny for me. New Sunday Mix Tape now. Is mind-blowing and loud for you. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week I scoured my collection in an attempt to please every [...]
